What is known about Charlton Athletic’s ownership?
Global Football Partners completed its purchase of Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Women’s FC on 21 July 2023 through UK subsidiary SE7 Partners, according to Charlton Athletic’s staff page, updated 12 August 2026. The club lists Joshua Friedman and family among shareholders with at least 5%. It does not state an individual ownership percentage or the amount invested.
The takeover announcement described Friedman and his family as co-founders, co-chairmen and co-chief executive officers of Canyon Partners, an alternative asset management firm. That establishes his professional role, not his personal net worth or the precise source and scale of his personal wealth (FC Business, 2023).
How did Joshua Friedman make his money?
The available public account connects Friedman’s business career to Canyon Partners, where he holds senior leadership roles as described in the takeover announcement. An executive title at an asset-management firm is not, by itself, evidence of a particular personal fortune. The cited announcement provides no figure for Friedman’s earnings, assets, stake in the firm or Charlton investment.

Charlton’s disclosure confirms that Friedman and family are among the club’s major shareholders, but does not reveal how much each invested or whether the investment was made from personal funds. It therefore cannot be used to calculate his wealth.
How did Charlie Methven make his money?
Methven has publicly described a commercial role in football, saying he was suited to “making money” by bringing in investors, squad sponsors and advertisers. The Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust published that excerpt from an interview recorded in May 2023 on 19 July 2023.
