Former Ubisoft Halifax workers represented by CWA Canada Local 30111 voted overwhelmingly to accept a settlement with the company, according to the union. The amount and terms are confidential under a nondisclosure agreement, so no public figure establishes how much compensation any worker received.
What settlement did the workers accept?
The Game and Media Workers Guild of Canada, CWA Canada Local 30111, said on April 23, 2026, that its members accepted a settlement after a months-long dispute over Ubisoft’s decision to close its Halifax operation. The union described the vote as overwhelming but did not publish a tally. CWA Canada’s statement says the settlement specifics were not made public because of a nondisclosure agreement. Global News likewise reported that compensation details would remain confidential. Global News, April 16, 2026
That means the public record does not establish the settlement amount, the individual compensation workers may receive, or the package’s specific provisions. The union’s announcement confirms acceptance, not the financial value or exact contents of the deal.
How many workers were represented, and how many jobs were affected?
The two reported figures describe different groups, not competing estimates:

- 61 workers were represented by the union, according to Global News.
- 71 jobs were reported affected by Ubisoft’s closure, according to Global News.
The available reporting does not say that all 71 affected positions were part of the union bargaining unit. Global News reported that most of the 61 represented workers supported a mobile version of Assassin’s Creed. Global News, April 16, 2026
What is known about the closure and its timing?
Global News reported that Ubisoft announced the closure in January 2026, three weeks after the union was certified to represent 61 workers. The outlet attributed the company’s stated rationale to cost optimization. Global News, January 7, 2026

The timing is part of the public sequence, but it does not establish why Ubisoft closed the studio. The cited reporting does not prove that unionization caused the closure or that the decision was retaliation. The union’s April 23 statement characterized the closure as coming shortly after workers organized; that is the union’s account of the chronology, not proof of motive. CWA Canada’s statement

Carmel Smyth, president of CWA-SCA Canada, credited members’ solidarity and resolve in negotiations, saying: “The success of the negotiation was directly attributable to the solidarity our members showed, their resolve in holding Ubisoft to account, the collecting and sharing of information, and remaining steadfast in advocating for their rights as unionized workers.” Her statement describes the union’s view of the negotiations, not the settlement’s confidential financial terms.
