Those descriptions are not identical. The Guardian reported a buyer search; Carter stated the ownership group’s public position on investment. His remarks did not confirm that a whole-club sale was underway, nor did they rule one out. The Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust’s 5 August 2026 summary likewise reported the search for additional investment and said Carter had not categorically ruled out a complete sale; it is the trust’s account, not an official sale announcement.

What is the connection between Cellino and Charlton?

Who owns Charlton Athletic now?
Charlton Athletic’s official staff and ownership page says Global Football Partners (GFP), acting through its UK subsidiary SE7 Partners, completed its purchase of Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Women’s Football Club on 21 July 2023. The page, last updated 12 August 2026, lists Gabriel Brener and family, Joshua Friedman and family, Warren Rosenfeld and family, Munir Javeri, and Marc Boyan as shareholders with stakes of 5% or more.
The Guardian reported that SE7 Partners paid £15 million for Charlton in 2023. That reported purchase price is historical; it is not a current valuation or a price being asked in the reported buyer search.

What would confirm a Cellino takeover?
A named, attributable statement from Cellino or Charlton, credible reporting of a specific offer, or formal confirmation of a completed transaction would materially change what can be said. The sources cited here provide none of those. Charlton’s ownership plans and any buyer interest can change, so the latest official club statement and subsequent reliable reporting are more probative than the 2024 speculation.
