Those figures are projections published in March 2025—not current market measurements or proof that the forecasts came true. The report also pointed to younger audiences, social play, user-generated content and AI as forces shaping how games are made and experienced.
What Xsolla forecast for the games market
In its March 12, 2025 announcement for Vol. 6 of The Xsolla Report: The State of Play, Xsolla projected that the global gaming market would reach $522.5 billion in 2025 and $691.3 billion by 2029, a stated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.25%. These are Xsolla’s forecasts, not independently verified outcomes. Xsolla’s Q1 2025 announcement
The announcement also projected that the United States would contribute approximately $141 billion to the total gaming revenue projection. It did not, in the material summarized here, provide enough detail to treat that figure as a separately defined market measure.
Why mobile and cloud stood out
Xsolla presented mobile as a major growth segment, projecting 9.9% growth in 2025 and an 11.3% CAGR. It also forecast cloud gaming revenue of $25.3 billion by 2029. The release does not establish that these growth rates or revenues were subsequently achieved.

For developers, the report’s framing points to two different strategic considerations. Mobile growth makes reach and engagement on phones an important opportunity; cloud gaming could widen access by reducing reliance on high-end local hardware. Neither forecast alone guarantees that a particular game, business model or platform will succeed. Developers would need to assess their audience, distribution options and economics rather than treating market-wide projections as a business case.
What the report said about audiences and technology
Xsolla described Gen Z and Gen Alpha as leading changing engagement patterns, with interest in interactive, socially connected and player-generated content. It highlighted Twitch and YouTube as platforms that support deeper community interaction. The practical implication is that participation and conversation around a game may matter alongside the game itself: creators and players can help shape discovery, community and content.
The announcement also identified AI and cloud gaming as important technology themes. Xsolla Chief Strategy Officer Chris Hewish said, “The convergence of AI and cloud gaming is revolutionizing the industry, making high-quality gaming experiences more immersive, scalable, and accessible than ever before.” That is the company’s characterization of the opportunity, rather than a measured finding about outcomes across the industry.
Why two market-size figures in the report should not be combined
The Q1 report’s PDF search extract also refers to more than 3.6 billion gamers projected by year-end 2025—over 60% of the world’s online population—and total revenue expected to approach $189 billion. The extract does not explain how those figures’ market definitions or data sources relate to the announcement’s $522.5 billion global-market projection. They should therefore be kept separate, not added together or presented as estimates with the same scope. Xsolla’s report archive
