Etihad received its first Airbus A321LR on 24 July 2025, introducing a single-aisle aircraft with a three-cabin layout: two enclosed First Suites, 14 lie-flat Business seats and 144 Economy seats. The cabin combines features more often associated with long-haul premium travel with the A321LR’s role on short- and medium-haul routes. Etihad announced Abu Dhabi–Phuket as its first route for the aircraft, with commercial service planned from 1 August 2025; that launch plan does not confirm which aircraft operates a flight today.
What Etihad introduced with its first A321LR
The A321LR is a member of Airbus’s single-aisle A321neo family. Etihad’s first aircraft was delivered at Airbus’s Finkenwerder site in Hamburg in July 2025. Etihad announced its delivery on 24 July, and Airbus described the aircraft as leased from AerCap. The two companies gave different planned fleet totals: Etihad called it the first of 30 A321LRs scheduled to join its fleet, while Airbus said the first of 20. Those announcements agree on the first delivery, not on the planned total.
What makes this aircraft notable is its published cabin, rather than a claim that it outperforms other aircraft in every respect. It puts enclosed First Suites, lie-flat Business seats and individual seatback entertainment in a single-aisle cabin. Etihad presented that combination as bringing a premium experience to routes that do not necessarily require a widebody aircraft.

Etihad A321LR First Class
The two First Suites are enclosed by sliding doors and face the windows. Etihad lists fully-flat beds, 20-inch 4K displays, Bluetooth, wireless charging and companion seating. These details describe the suite’s design and equipment; they do not establish how every traveler will rate its comfort compared with another airline’s First Class.
A321LR Business Class
The 14 Business seats use a 1-1 herringbone arrangement. Each seat has direct aisle access, so passengers do not need to step over a seatmate to reach the aisle. Etihad lists 17.3-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth pairing and wireless charging. The Abu Dhabi Media Office gives the bed length as 78 inches.
Economy seating and entertainment
Etihad lists 144 Economy seats with 13.3-inch 4K displays, USB charging and Bluetooth. The Abu Dhabi Media Office reports 18.4-inch seat width and up to five inches of recline. Those are published cabin specifications, not a guarantee of a particular level of comfort for every passenger or seat.

Wi-Fi and onboard connectivity
The public announcements describe Wi-Fi capability differently. Etihad’s July 2025 delivery announcement said the service would offer “up to 100’s of Mbps”; the Abu Dhabi Media Office’s April 2025 announcement described Viasat’s system as capable of speeds up to 1 Gbps. These are attributed capability claims, not independent speed-test results or guaranteed speeds on each flight.

Its launch-era announcement also named Algiers, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Krakow, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Tunis and Zurich as intended destinations. A separate Etihad-affiliated update described expansion to destinations including Algiers, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Krabi, Medan, Phnom Penh and Tunis.

These are launch plans, not a current route schedule or confirmation that a particular flight will use the A321LR. Aircraft assignments can change. Check Etihad’s booking details and the aircraft information for your travel date; an official A321LR seat map can help you understand the cabin sequence, but it does not establish the aircraft assigned to a future flight.

Airbus publishes a maximum A321LR range of up to 4,000 nautical miles (6,300 km). This is a manufacturer specification, not a promise that a given route will be flown at that distance or that every payload and operating condition will permit the maximum range.

Airbus also says the A321neo family uses at least 20% less fuel and produces at least 20% lower CO₂ emissions than previous-generation single-aisle aircraft. Those are Airbus comparisons against that stated baseline; they are not independently demonstrated savings for Etihad’s individual aircraft. Airbus said the A321neo family could operate with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel at the time of its July 2025 announcement, alongside an ambition for 100% SAF capability by 2030. Neither statement means that a particular Etihad flight uses a given SAF blend.

Why the cabin is notable for a single-aisle aircraft
The strongest basis for calling the A321LR a premium single-aisle option is its configuration: just two enclosed First Suites, a 14-seat Business cabin with direct aisle access and lie-flat beds, and personal 4K displays and charging features across all three cabins. The aircraft’s single-aisle format and Airbus’s published range give airlines a way to offer that configuration on routes where a widebody may not be the chosen aircraft.
That is a product and operating proposition, not proof of a superior passenger experience. The launch announcements do not include an independent comparison of comfort, service, reliability or passenger satisfaction against other aircraft or airlines.
