The launch report described Taiwan as the service’s third Asian market, after Hong Kong and Singapore.
How could Taiwanese users follow an eBay bid without a computer?
They could use a cellular phone to keep track of an item they were bidding on, rather than staying beside a computer. Julian Wang, then eBay Taiwan’s country manager, explained the intended benefit: “If a user is keeping an eye on a product they’re bidding for on eBay, they won’t have to wait at home in front of their computer any more. With eBay Mobile, they could use their cellular phone instead.”
The contemporaneous Network World report by Dan Nystedt presented the service as mobile buying and selling, though it did not detail the technology, supported phone models, or transaction process.
Who launched the service, and what was planned?
eBay and Taiwan Mobile were the launch partners. The report described Taiwan as eBay Mobile’s third Asian market after Hong Kong and Singapore; that was the order of market launches reported in 2006, not a measure of users, sales, or performance.

What is known about eBay mobile access today?
eBay’s current help page says its app for iOS and Android supports browsing, buying, and selling. The Taiwan App Store listing also describes an eBay marketplace app. These current materials do not establish whether the specific 2006 Taiwan Mobile service or partnership continues.
