The available account does not establish how many people were affected, and it is not a company-confirmed total. Embracer’s restructuring announcement provides context, but does not confirm the specific employee reports.
What employees reported
GamesBeat described several employee accounts of layoffs at Gearbox Publishing. Former employee Allan Jacquemart told the outlet that his contract and those of colleagues who started in June ended on the final day of their probation period. That account describes his experience and colleagues’ contracts; it should not be treated as a description of every affected worker. The accessible report did not establish a confirmed headcount. How the reports fit Embracer’s restructuring
On June 13, 2023, Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors announced a group-wide restructuring program. He said the company would “reduce third party publishing and put greater focus on internal IP and increase external funding of large-budget games.” That policy is relevant context for reports involving a publishing business, but the announcement does not verify the particular Gearbox employee accounts. Wingefors also acknowledged the human impact, writing, “It is painful to see talented team members leave.” Embracer’s June 2023 open letter
In its interim report published November 16, 2023, Embracer said its workforce was down by around 900 people, or 5%, as of September 30, 2023, in connection with restructuring. That is a group-level figure covering Embracer, not a count of layoffs at Gearbox Publishing. Embracer’s Q2 FY 2023/24 interim report

Gearbox Publishing and the 2024 divestment
Embracer’s March 28, 2024 announcement distinguished Gearbox Publishing San Francisco from the other Gearbox Entertainment assets it agreed to sell to Take-Two Interactive. Embracer said it would retain Gearbox Publishing San Francisco, which was to be renamed, along with publishing rights to Remnant and Hyper Light Breaker. The divestment was announced for USD 460 million; that transaction figure is not related to the reported employee departures. Embracer’s March 2024 divestment announcement
The 2024 transaction should not be read as meaning that the publishing entity was part of the assets sold to Take-Two. Embracer described it separately as a business it would retain.
