17 Best Selling Apps: How to Turn Your Stuff Into Cash (2026)

The best selling app depends on what you have, where the buyer is, and whether you want local pickup or shipping. Compare 17 platforms and their real seller costs.
From TheFinanceBase Team14 min to read

The best selling app depends less on popularity than on what you are selling. A sofa needs a local-pickup marketplace; a designer handbag may justify authentication and consignment; a $12 shirt can lose its appeal once shipping and fees are counted.

For U.S. sellers, the strongest options in 2026 range from broad marketplaces such as eBay and Mercari to specialist platforms such as Reverb, Grailed, The RealReal, and StockX. The fee a platform advertises is only part of the calculation: shipping, payment processing, promoted listings, return risk, payout timing, and the time required to photograph and ship the item also affect your actual profit.

Best selling apps at a glance

Platform Best for Important seller-cost or access detail
eBay Electronics, collectibles, parts, clothing, and unusual items Up to 250 zero-insertion-fee listings monthly; most categories use a 13.6% final-value fee up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee
Facebook Marketplace Furniture, appliances, and quick local sales Local sales are the main use; shipping and checkout are not available to every account
OfferUp Local furniture, tools, electronics, and household goods Nationwide shipping ended for new listings in September 2025
Mercari Small household goods, clothing, toys, and electronics Generally 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping for applicable listings
Poshmark Fashion, shoes, accessories, beauty, and home décor $2.95 under $15; 20% at $15 or more
Depop Vintage, streetwear, and trend-led fashion U.S. sellers do not automatically pay the commonly quoted 10% selling fee; Boosted Listings can cost 12% for new listings from March 23, 2026
Vinted Clothing and inexpensive bundles No seller fee for uploading or selling; buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee
Etsy Handmade, designed, vintage, craft, and digital products $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, and U.S. payment processing of 3% plus $0.25
Grailed Designer menswear, streetwear, sneakers, and archive fashion 9% commission, separate from payment processing
StockX New sneakers, streetwear, electronics, and collectibles Verified Marketplace seller fees range from 9% to 7% by seller level, plus 3% processing
The RealReal Authenticated luxury clothing, handbags, watches, jewelry, and art Managed consignment; payout varies by item type, price, and consignor terms
ThredUp Large clothing cleanouts and selected higher-value fashion Direct Listing launched in June 2026 with 0% seller fees; Clean Out Bags remain available
Reverb Musical instruments, pedals, recording gear, and pro audio Calculated shipping is available; Safe Shipping is typically up to 3.5% of the product amount
Craigslist Vehicles, furniture, appliances, tools, and unusual large items Usually free, with category exceptions such as $5 U.S. cars, trucks, RVs, and motorcycles by owner
StockX Listings Marketplace Used or unique sneakers, apparel, and accessories Limited to select U.S. sellers through the StockX iOS app
Facebook Marketplace with shipping Small goods when shipping access is enabled Optional feature; cancellations and missed handling can remove shipping access
OfferUp local pickup Fast cash for ordinary household goods No commission for in-person transactions, although promotions and other extras may cost money

StockX Listings Marketplace and OfferUp local pickup appear separately because they work differently from their parent platforms: one is a restricted used-goods channel, and the other is the practical way most individual OfferUp sellers now transact.

1. eBay: the broadest marketplace

eBay is usually the best first stop when an item has a national collector, enthusiast, or replacement-parts audience. Electronics, video games, discontinued products, vintage clothing, camera gear, tools, and branded parts can all perform well.

U.S. sellers receive up to 250 zero-insertion-fee listings per month. Additional listings generally cost $0.35. In most categories, the final-value fee is 13.6% up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order over $10 or $0.30 for orders of $10 or less. The calculation can include the item price, buyer-paid shipping, sales tax, and other applicable charges, so do not calculate profit from the item price alone.

To check a realistic price, use Advanced Search → enter keywords → Completed listings → Search. Filter for the same model, condition, accessories, and quantity. A high asking price is not evidence that an item sells for that amount.

Watch for Good ’Til Canceled fixed-price listings. They renew monthly and can create another insertion fee when your free allowance is exhausted. Also account for returns, packing materials, and the time involved in shipping.

2. Facebook Marketplace: best for local bulky items

Facebook Marketplace is often the fastest route for furniture, appliances, exercise equipment, patio items, and children’s gear. Local pickup eliminates shipping damage, dimensional-weight surprises, and most platform checkout complications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On desktop, create a listing through Feed → Marketplace → Create new listing → Item for sale. Add photos and item information, select Next, then Publish. Entering 0 as the price marks the item as free.

Use a precise pickup area rather than posting your home address. State dimensions, defects, floor level, parking details, and whether the buyer must bring help. Those details reduce messages from buyers who cannot actually collect the item.

3. OfferUp: local sales after the shipping change

OfferUp is useful for local electronics, tools, furniture, and household goods. It ended nationwide shipping for new listings on September 23, 2025, so older advice describing it as a nationwide shipping marketplace is no longer reliable.

In the mobile app, use Home → Post → Take Photo or Select Photo → Title → Description → Next → Category → Condition → Next → asking price → Next → Get My Location or Zip Code → Post. You can add up to 12 photos. Desktop-browser posting is not supported.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Free-listing limits vary considerably: Cars & Trucks and Motorcycles have a current limit of one per month; Appliances and Cell Phones & Accessories have 15; Furniture, Jewelry & Accessories, and Tools & Machinery have 25; most other categories share a 200-listing limit.

Use a public, well-lit MeetUp Spot and keep messages inside the app. Do not put your home address, phone number, email address, social handle, or external link in the listing.

4. Mercari: simple shipping for small goods

Mercari suits items that are too small for a local-only sale but not specialized enough for a niche marketplace: clothing, toys, kitchen goods, small electronics, and ordinary home products.

Listing is free, but “Mercari has no seller fee” is outdated. For listings created or updated under the current structure, sellers generally pay 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. Buyers also pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. Instant Pay costs $3 per transfer; standard ACH withdrawal is generally free, subject to limits and exceptions.

  • Automatic Scanning: NT-1228bc barcode scanner have three scanning modes: manual trigger mode, continuous scanning mode and auto-sensing scanning mode. In addition, there is a storage mode. Storage mode can be used when you are out of range of Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. Supports storage of up to 100,000 barcodes. Note: Before use, you need to scan the corresponding setting barcode on the manual.
  • 2600mAh Battery Upgraded: Continuous scanning up to 200,000 times on a full charge. After a full charge the scanner can be used for one month at least, even in warehouses and at pos checkout counters where scanners are frequently used. In libraries and hospitals it can be used even longer.
  • Programmable Configuration: Add custom prefixes/ suffixes, delete characters, Add keyboard keys/ combinations (terminator TAB, CR&LF, Home etc.), Enable or disable the barcode type as you want. Buzzer can be set to mute to allow for a quiet operation.(Note: It does not work with square POS / Divalto / DoorDash / Lightspeed POS system)

Mercari can charge a cancellation fee of 5% of the item price, capped at $25, for frequent cancellations. Measure and weigh the package before choosing a label. Prepaid-label documentation covers packages up to 100 pounds, but dimensional limits and category restrictions still apply. Nationwide shipping is not supported for motorized items, furniture, bicycles, or major appliances.

5. Poshmark: the straightforward fashion option

Poshmark remains one of the easiest places to sell clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products, and some home décor. Its social feed can help style-led listings, but accurate measurements and condition notes matter more than a large number of followers.

The U.S. fee structure is currently $2.95 for sales under $15 and 20% for sales of $15 or more. The separate Buyer Protection Fee was removed in October 2024. Poshmark supplies a prepaid shipping label, and sellers must ship within three days of receiving it.

After delivery, a buyer has three days to report a problem. If no issue is reported, the seller’s funds are released. Photograph labels, soles, hems, zippers, and flaws before shipping, particularly for higher-priced items.

6. Depop: for distinctive fashion, not generic closets

Depop is a good fit for vintage, streetwear, archive pieces, and trend-led outfits where styling and presentation affect the price. A plain description and one dim photograph are unlikely to compete with curated listings.

Do not automatically subtract a 10% seller fee from every U.S. Depop sale. Depop’s current fee page says that the 10% selling fee applies outside the U.K., U.S., and Australia. U.S. sellers can still face payment-processing charges and optional promotion costs. For new listings from March 23, 2026, the Boosted Listings fee is 12% in the U.S. and U.K.; it can apply to the item sale price and, where Depop Shipping is not used, shipping cost.

Only boost an item when the expected extra sale probability justifies the fee. A boost that converts a $40 sale into a $40 sale is not free marketing.

7. Vinted: low-friction clothing bundles

Vinted is especially useful for everyday clothing, shoes, accessories, and inexpensive bundles. Vinted says sellers pay no fee to upload or sell items, while buyers pay a mandatory Buyer Protection fee, typically calculated as 5% plus $0.70, with the exact amount varying by order.

Activate your Vinted Wallet before your first sale so proceeds can be received. New listings may be screened automatically; screening normally takes about a minute but can take three or four days in some cases. Bundle similar low-value items to avoid spending more time packing than the sale is worth.

8. Etsy: only for items that qualify

Etsy is not a general-purpose decluttering app. The item must fit its Creativity Standards as made, designed, handpicked, or sourced. That makes it appropriate for handmade products, original designs, digital downloads, qualifying vintage goods, and craft supplies—not ordinary mass-produced household items.

Baseline costs include $0.20 per listing for a four-month listing period, a 6.5% transaction fee on the displayed item price plus seller-charged shipping, and U.S. Etsy Payments processing of 3% plus $0.25. Multiple-quantity listings can incur additional listing or auto-renewal fees as quantities sell. Offsite Ads may add another advertising fee when an attributed sale occurs.

Build all of those costs into the price before buying materials. A low-priced handmade item can look profitable until labor, packaging, postage, and payment processing are included.

9. Grailed: designer and streetwear buyers

Grailed targets designer menswear, streetwear, sneakers, and archive fashion. It can expose a rare item to buyers who understand its label and provenance better than a general marketplace audience.

Grailed currently lists a 9% commission for domestic and international transactions, separate from payment processing. Its terms can apply the commission to the total transaction amount received by the seller, including applicable shipping when Grailed Labels are not used.

Treat accepted binding offers seriously. Accepting one creates an obligation for the buyer to purchase and the seller to ship as described. Photograph tags, measurements, flaws, and authenticity indicators.

10. StockX Verified Marketplace: new and unworn goods

StockX’s Verified Marketplace is designed mainly for new or unworn sneakers, streetwear, electronics, collectibles, and selected used categories. Sellers can use Sell Now or set an Ask; after a sale, the item generally must be shipped within two business days for verification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verified Marketplace seller fees range from 9% at Level 1 to 7% at Level 5, plus a 3% payment-processing fee. U.S. standard shipping is listed as $5 after changes beginning March 1, 2026. Failure to ship within 30 days can cancel an order and trigger a $15 penalty.

StockX is not the place to sell an item with uncertain authenticity or undisclosed wear. The verification process protects buyers, but a failed verification or late shipment can turn a seemingly profitable sale into a penalty.

11. The RealReal: luxury consignment

The RealReal is a managed consignment service rather than an ordinary peer-to-peer listing app. It accepts items from an approved designer list and applies its own quality standards, making it useful for authenticated luxury clothing, handbags, watches, jewelry, and art.

Do not assume a universal commission percentage. Commission is based on the final sold price, excluding tax and shipping, and varies by item type, sale price, and consignor terms. The company’s 2025 filing says consignors can earn up to 90%, but “up to” is not the payout for every item.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use it when convenience, authentication, and access to luxury buyers are worth giving up some control over pricing and timing.

12. ThredUp: bulk cleanouts or direct higher-value listings

ThredUp remains convenient for a large clothing cleanout through Clean Out Bags, where the company handles much of the sorting and selling process. Acceptance, processing, payout, and return rules differ from direct selling platforms, so read the current bag terms before sending items.

ThredUp launched Direct Listing on June 9, 2026, for individual higher-value items. The announcement says Direct Listing has 0% seller fees, with sellers retaining 100% of earnings to cash out or use on the platform. That makes Direct Listing more relevant for a few valuable pieces, while Clean Out Bags remain the lower-effort option for volume.

13. Reverb: instruments and pro audio

Reverb is purpose-built for musical instruments, pedals, recording equipment, and pro audio. Buyers often search by exact model, year, finish, and technical specification, so include serial-number-adjacent details without publishing sensitive personal information.

Reverb’s shipping estimate does not include packaging, packing services, Safe Shipping, or Signature Required. Safe Shipping is typically up to 3.5% of the product amount. For fragile or expensive gear, price those protections before deciding whether Reverb produces a better net result than local pickup.

14. Craigslist: a practical outlet for large or unusual items

Craigslist remains useful when a buyer needs to inspect or collect an item: furniture, vehicles, appliances, tools, building materials, and unusual large goods. It is less polished than app-based marketplaces, but a local audience can be enough.

The current posting flow is choose a geographic site → create a posting → confirm location if requested → select posting type → category → enter text → continue → confirm map → continue → add images → done with images → review → publish. Email confirmation and sometimes phone verification are required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Most postings are free. Current exceptions include $5 for U.S. cars, trucks, RVs, and motorcycles by owner, $5 for U.S. services, and charges for jobs, dealer listings, and some real-estate categories. Craigslist asks users not to post the same item more than once every 48 hours; duplicate or misleading posts can be removed.

15. StockX Listings Marketplace: used items on a restricted channel

StockX Listings Marketplace is materially different from the normal Verified Marketplace. It supports used or unique sneakers, apparel, and accessories where eligible, but access is currently limited to select U.S. sellers through the StockX iOS app.

Before publishing, sellers must complete identity verification with a government ID and selfie, or business verification. Eligible condition choices can include New, New – Other, and Used. Sellers upload photos and a description, the buyer pays shipping at checkout, and the seller receives a prepaid label with a two-business-day shipping deadline.

The marketplace currently advertises no standard selling, processing, or shipping fees for sellers, but penalties or return-related fees can still apply. Confirm eligibility and the current terms inside the app before relying on the advertised zero-fee structure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

16. Facebook Marketplace with shipping

Shipping is an optional Facebook Marketplace mode, not a feature every seller can use. Facebook says shipping, checkout, and prepaid-label creation are not available to all users. If your account has access, it can make small, easy-to-pack products available beyond your local area.

Shipping performance includes Cancellation Rate and Missed Handling Rate. Keep cancellation rate below 10%; falling short can temporarily remove shipping access. Shipping performance is currently available only in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android, so check the app rather than relying only on desktop settings.

Use this channel only for items you can pack consistently. A fragile product with uncertain dimensions is a poor candidate for a feature that can be lost after repeated cancellations or late handling.

17. OfferUp local pickup as a fast-cash strategy

OfferUp’s local-pickup channel deserves separate consideration because it is now the practical option for ordinary individual sellers. OfferUp says it does not charge a commission for in-person transactions, although promotions, extra listings, and subscriptions may cost money.

Price slightly below comparable listings if speed matters, but do not accept vague promises as a completed sale. Set a specific meeting time, confirm shortly before leaving, and use a public location. After the transaction, go to Home → My Listings → select the listing → Mark Sold → Mark Sold. Marking an item sold cannot be reversed.

How to choose the right selling app

  1. Start with the item’s natural buyer. A guitar belongs on Reverb, a handmade print on Etsy, and a bulky dresser on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, or Craigslist.
  2. Decide whether you will ship. Local pickup is usually better for heavy, fragile, or low-value items. Nationwide selling makes more sense when the buyer pool is specialized enough to support a higher price.
  3. Estimate net proceeds. Subtract platform fees, payment processing, shipping, packaging, insurance, discounts, and expected returns from the sale price.
  4. Compare sold prices, not active listings. eBay’s Completed listings filter is particularly useful. On other platforms, compare several recently sold or completed examples where available.
  5. Choose speed or maximum value. A consignment service may save hours; a peer-to-peer listing may produce more money but require photography, messages, packing, and customer service.
  6. Cross-list carefully. If the same item sells on two platforms, remove the other listing immediately. Repeated cancellations can lead to fees, account restrictions, or loss of shipping access.

A simple profit calculation

Before listing, use this formula:

Net cash = sale price + shipping charged to the buyer − platform fees − payment processing − shipping label − packaging − discounts − expected loss from returns or damage.

For example, suppose a $50 item sells on a platform charging 10% on the item price plus $8 buyer-paid shipping. The seller fee is $5.80, not merely $5. If the label costs $8, packaging costs $1.50, and payment processing is separate, the actual cash received is substantially below the headline $50 sale price.

For local pickup, the calculation is simpler, but include travel, fuel, marketplace promotion costs, and the risk of a missed appointment. A $20 item that requires an hour of messages and a 25-minute drive may not be worth selling individually.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Safety and tax records

Keep communication and payment on the platform whenever possible. Never ship an item because a buyer sends a screenshot claiming payment. Verify the transaction in your account, not through an email link supplied by the buyer.

For local transactions, meet in a public place, avoid sharing your home address, and do not allow pressure to change the agreed payment method. For shipped goods, retain photographs of the item, serial number where appropriate, packaging, and the carrier receipt.

Keep a basic spreadsheet with the listing date, sale price, platform fee, shipping cost, supplies, and payout. Marketplace tax reporting rules can depend on your total payments and the nature of your activity, and a platform’s tax form is not the same thing as a complete measure of taxable profit. If you sell regularly for profit, consult current IRS guidance or a tax professional.

FAQ

What is the best selling app for beginners?

Facebook Marketplace is usually the simplest for bulky local items, while Mercari and Poshmark offer relatively straightforward workflows for small goods and clothing. Choose based on the item rather than trying to use one app for everything.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which selling app has the lowest seller fees?

Vinted says it charges no seller fee for uploading or selling, and OfferUp says it does not charge a commission for in-person transactions. Etsy, eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, and specialist marketplaces all have different combinations of selling, processing, shipping, promotion, or consignment costs, so compare net proceeds rather than one headline percentage.

Is OfferUp still available for shipping?

OfferUp ended nationwide shipping for new listings on September 23, 2025. For most individual sellers, it is now primarily a local-pickup marketplace.

How do I make the most money selling used items?

Use sold-price research, choose a marketplace with the right buyer audience, photograph flaws clearly, include measurements and model details, and calculate every fee before pricing. Specialist platforms can produce a higher gross price, while local pickup often produces the best net result for bulky goods.

The Bottom Line

Use Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, or Craigslist for bulky local items; eBay for the broadest national buyer pool; Mercari, Poshmark, or Vinted for ordinary clothing and household goods; and Etsy, Reverb, Grailed, StockX, The RealReal, or ThredUp when the item fits a specialist audience.
