• Cash: GameStop says cash payments are accepted only in store, not for online orders. Depending on the offer, a quote may describe payment as cash, Venmo, or a prepaid Mastercard; confirm the current payment method with the store.
• Trade credit: A completed trade can result in a trade card for purchases in store. It is not cash, and you should not assume it can be used online.

GameStop’s terms say it determines product condition and trade value at its discretion. Its requirements FAQ, last updated May 26, 2026, says final eligibility and value are determined in store at the register.

A quote is time-sensitive, not a guaranteed amount. For example, GameStop displayed an estimate for Cronos: The New Dawn of up to $9.00 in store credit or $6.30 cash on a quote generated October 6, 2026. That offer expired at the end of that business day; it illustrates how quotes work, not what GameStop will pay for another game or on another date.

GameStop’s trade page has also advertised an extra 10% in-store credit for Pro members on eligible trades, with the cited terms limiting the bonus to games and accessories. Treat it as a promotion that depends on the current terms, not a permanent increase.

What can affect acceptance and value?

The trade page says items must be in good condition and have necessary components for the highest value. The store checks the item, and functional components may affect eligibility or value. Requirements differ by item, so do not assume that a checklist for a console applies to a game.

For a game trade, check the current item listing and contact the store if you are unsure what to bring or whether the item is eligible. GameStop’s program is limited to select products and select stores; availability can vary locally.

How to check a quote before going

1. Look up the exact game and platform in GameStop’s trade lookup.
2. Review the current cash and trade-credit options, any applicable promotion, and the quote’s expiration.
3. Check whether your local store participates and ask about any item-specific requirements.
4. Bring the game and any components the store says are needed. The store will inspect it and determine final eligibility and value.

Cash or trade credit: which should you choose?

Compare the current cash quote with the credit offer and consider whether you already plan to make an eligible in-store purchase. Credit may be more useful if you will spend it at GameStop; cash may suit you better if you want money rather than store purchasing power. Also weigh the quote’s expiration and the time and travel involved in visiting a store. The policy alone does not make one option best for everyone.

Can you sell games to GameStop online?

The quote lookup can help you check an offer, but GameStop says cash payments are accepted only in store. Trade cards are also described as in-store credit. Do not treat an online quote as a completed sale or assume the trade can be finished or paid out online.
