A Discover-branded email is not proof that Discover sent it. No verified evidence establishes a specific current campaign targeting Discover cardholders or its scale. If you receive a suspicious message, don’t use its links or phone numbers: check your account through the Discover app or a website address you enter yourself, and report the email to Discover.
Is a suspicious Discover email part of a confirmed scam?
There is no verified evidence establishing a particular Discover-specific phishing campaign, its source, or how many people may have received messages. A third-party article describes purported Discover-themed emails, but that alone does not confirm a campaign. Treat an unexpected message on its own merits rather than assuming it is genuine—or that every Discover customer has been targeted.
Discover describes phishing as a scam in which someone impersonates a legitimate organization to try to obtain money or personal information. A familiar logo or company name can be copied, so neither proves that a message came from Discover.
How to tell whether a Discover email may be phishing
Discover lists several warning signs to check in its scam-protection guidance:

- The sender address is unfamiliar or does not appear consistent with Discover’s official communications.
- The greeting uses a generic name instead of your real name.
- The message pressures you to act urgently.
- Its graphics or logos look unusual or unfamiliar.
- A hyperlink seems unusual or does not match the destination you would expect.
Check a link’s actual destination rather than trusting its visible text. Do not click it just to investigate. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) notes that phishing messages may also ask you to open an attachment or click a link to obtain passwords, account numbers, or Social Security numbers. A message can be suspicious even if it does not show every warning sign on this list.
How to check your Discover account safely
- Leave the message’s links and contact details alone. Don’t click a link, open an attachment, or call a phone number supplied in an email you suspect is fraudulent.
- Open Discover independently. Use the Discover app you already have or type Discover’s known official website address into your browser. Review your account for unfamiliar activity and use the contact information shown through that trusted channel.
- Report the email. Discover says to forward suspicious emails to [email protected].
- Contact Discover promptly if you shared account information. Discover’s official scam guidance says: “If you think your account security has been compromised because of a phishing email, call us right away at 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683).” Confirm the number on Discover’s current official site or on your card before calling.
- Report unauthorized transactions to the issuer. Contact Discover through a verified channel and follow its fraud-reporting process. Its credit card fraud guidance, last updated February 10, 2026, explains how to report suspected card fraud.
What to do based on what happened
Opening an email, clicking a link, submitting information, sharing a one-time code, and installing a download are different kinds of exposure. Clicking alone does not prove that your account was taken over. Respond according to what you actually did:

Where to get help with phishing or identity theft
The FTC’s phishing guidance recommends contacting a company through a phone number or website you know is real—not details in a suspicious message. Its phishing overview explains how impersonation can put accounts and personal information at risk. If sensitive personal information was exposed, IdentityTheft.gov provides tailored recovery steps.
