Disney and Fubo completed their combination on October 29, 2025. The deal joined Fubo’s business with Disney’s Hulu + Live TV business—not Hulu’s entire on-demand library. Fubo remains the name of the combined company, under the structure announced in January 2025.
What did Disney and Fubo agree to?
On January 6, 2025, Disney and Fubo announced a definitive agreement to combine Fubo’s business with Hulu + Live TV. The agreement was subject to regulatory approvals, Fubo shareholder approval and other customary closing conditions. The companies later completed the transaction on October 29, 2025.
The scope matters: the closing disclosure filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission identifies the Hulu + Live TV business. It does not say that Disney transferred all of Hulu’s on-demand operation to Fubo. Fubo’s SEC-filed disclosure identifies the business included in the combination.
Did Disney buy Fubo?
Not in the simple sense of acquiring all of Fubo and folding it into Disney. The announced structure combined Fubo and Hulu + Live TV in a company operating under the Fubo name, with Fubo’s existing management expected to lead it. Disney was to own approximately 70% of the combined company under the terms announced in January 2025. That figure describes the announced structure; it should not be treated as a separately verified current ownership percentage.

Disney’s announcement also included a $145 million term-loan commitment for Fubo, with funding expected in 2026, and a $130 million termination fee payable to Fubo under certain circumstances. These were announced terms: the figures alone do not establish that the loan was funded or that the fee became payable. Disney’s announcement sets out the original terms.
What happened to Hulu + Live TV after the merger?
Hulu + Live TV was the live-TV business included in the combination. The transaction should not be read as a merger of Hulu’s entire on-demand service into Fubo. If you are deciding where to watch, treat Fubo and Hulu’s on-demand offering as distinct questions and check the services’ current official pages for pricing, channel lineups, service terms and device compatibility; the transaction announcements do not establish those current details.

Fubo co-founder and CEO David Gandler described the intended consumer rationale at announcement: “This combination enables us to deliver on our promise to provide consumers with greater choice and flexibility,” according to Associated Press coverage. That is a statement of intent, not a guarantee about any viewer’s current channel selection or price.
How many subscribers did the combined company report?
Fubo described the combined business as having nearly 6 million North American subscribers at completion and called it the sixth-largest Pay TV company in the United States. Those were Fubo’s figures in its 2025 completion announcement. A later SEC-filed disclosure reported 6.2 million subscribers in 2026. The figures come from different company documents and dates, so they should not be presented as the same measurement or as an independently verified market ranking. Why was Venu Sports mentioned?
The January 2025 deal announcement was connected in Fubo’s announcement and contemporaneous coverage with settlement of Fubo’s litigation over the planned Venu Sports service. That provides context for why the agreement emerged when it did, but Venu was not the business named in the closing disclosure as being combined. The transaction’s stated scope was Fubo and Hulu + Live TV.
