Disney’s 2019 D23 Streaming Deal Is Over: What U.S. Subscribers Can Choose Now

The D23 promotion for three prepaid years of Disney+ ended in 2019. Current U.S. subscribers should compare Disney’s plan and bundle options and confirm account-specific terms at checkout.

No—the D23 discount in this headline was a 2019 promotion, not an offer you can still redeem. BGR reported that it offered three prepaid years of Disney+ for $140, with a September 2, 2019 deadline. The D23 website’s reported access problem followed a surge in traffic; that report did not say Disney+ streaming itself had crashed. For current U.S. options, compare Disney’s available plans and bundles and confirm your price and eligibility at checkout.

What the D23 deal offered—and what “crashed”

In an August 28, 2019 report, BGR described a launch-era promotion offering three years of Disney+ for a $140 prepaid payment. It said D23 membership was required, including free membership, and listed September 2, 2019 as the deadline. The report characterized the prepaid price as averaging less than $4 a month over the three-year term. That was a historical calculation, not a current Disney+ rate.

BGR also reported that heavy traffic caused an access issue on the D23 Fan Club website and relayed an apology from a Disney spokesperson. The reported interruption concerned access to D23’s site; it does not establish that the Disney+ streaming service went down. The offer is expired, and the contemporaneous report is not an archived official offer page.

What to compare when choosing a current U.S. plan

Disney’s U.S. plans and prices page lists standalone and bundled options, while its bundle signup guidance explains available configurations. Plans differ in advertising and in whether they include Hulu, ESPN Select, or ESPN Unlimited. Choose based on the services and viewing experience you will actually use, not the bundle headline alone.

  • Total checkout price: Check the full amount for the plan and billing route you intend to use. Disney says prices depend on the plan, and third-party billing partner prices may differ.
  • Billing period: Compare monthly, annual, or prepaid terms only where Disney currently offers them for the specific plan. The old $140 prepaid promotion does not establish a current annual price or saving.
  • Ads and included services: Compare like with like—for example, plans with the same ad experience—and count Hulu or ESPN only if you expect to use them.
  • Region and billing channel: These comparisons are U.S.-specific. The Hulu subscriber agreement says Hulu and ESPN services are available only in the United States and certain U.S. territories. Availability and billing arrangements can vary by region and partner.

Disney says it does not currently offer a free trial. Plan names and prices can change, so use the official plan page and your account’s checkout screen to verify the offer, total, recurring billing terms, and eligibility before subscribing or switching.

A separate D23 benefit for some Disney+ subscribers

There is a distinct D23-related benefit, but it is not the old discounted Disney+ subscription. Under the Disney+ Perks offer terms, eligible adults who are active Disney+ subscribers, have an active Disney+ Perks membership, and are not current D23 Gold members can receive one complimentary D23 Gold Monthly Plan. Redemption is required by December 31, 2026. Cancelling the Disney+ subscription or Perks membership cancels that monthly D23 Gold membership.

This is an offer for D23 membership, not a lower price for Disney+. D23’s discounts and offers page says benefits may change or be cancelled without notice, and some require a valid D23 Gold member card; it does not support assuming there is a standing D23-wide Disney+ discount.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
