No. US Airways no longer operates as a separate airline or passenger-facing brand, so travelers cannot book a current flight under the US Airways name. American Airlines and US Airways completed their merger in 2013, but US Airways-branded flying ended in 2015 as the airlines integrated.
When did US Airways stop operating?
The change happened in stages, which is why the merger date and the end of the US Airways brand are different:
- December 9, 2013: The merger closed and American Airlines Group Inc. was formed. American Airlines’ announcement and its corporate profile describe the combination.
- April 8, 2015: American announced that the FAA had issued a single operating certificate for American and US Airways, an integration milestone. American’s announcement explains the certificate.
- 2015: US Airways flew its last flight, Flight 1939, and the airlines began operating as one airline with a single passenger service system, according to American’s official history.
- December 30, 2015: The corporate entities were consolidated. In its 2016 Form 10-K filed with the SEC, American Airlines Group said US Airways Group merged into American Airlines Group Inc., and US Airways, Inc. merged into American Airlines, Inc.
Can you still fly or book a ticket with US Airways?
No. US Airways is not a current airline brand with its own passenger service system. Its last flight and the start of single-airline passenger operations are recorded in American Airlines’ history. A ticket for travel today should be booked with the airline currently operating the flight, not under the retired US Airways name.
Does the US Airways name still exist in any sense?
The name remains a historical reference to the predecessor airline that merged with American. The SEC filing describes the relevant US Airways corporate entities merging into American’s surviving entities in 2015. That answers the corporate-survival question for those entities; it does not establish whether the US Airways name is currently registered as a trademark or licensed for some other use.
