What Delta’s president said about Main Cabin returns
At the September 11, 2025 Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference, Delta President Glen Hauenstein described the airline’s Main Cabin results as still negative. He said: “The main cabin is still negative.” Elsewhere in the exchange, he characterized the high end as producing returns while Main Cabin was “really essentially not producing returns that are acceptable.” These are management’s descriptions, not a published cabin-by-cabin audited margin table. Hauenstein framed the issue as a small negative from Main Cabin that was being offset by premium products and services. He did not say that every Main Cabin fare, flight, or route was unprofitable. The conference remarks are an aggregate executive assessment, not route-level financial disclosure.
Does the transcript show that transatlantic performance weakened?
No. The Main Cabin exchange occurred in response to a question about domestic cabin trends. In a separate remark, Hauenstein said, “International is positive, but it’s not as robust as domestic.” That is a comparison of broad international and domestic demand, not a transatlantic-only result, and it does not identify international demand as the cause of Main Cabin’s negative returns.

The transcript supplies no transatlantic-specific statistic, route-level profitability breakdown, or causal explanation for the Main Cabin result. The headline’s route implication therefore should not be read as a conclusion established by Hauenstein’s remarks.
How Delta says it is offsetting the Main Cabin weakness
Revenue beyond the coach fare
Hauenstein said well over half of Delta’s revenue was no longer tied to Main Cabin, pointing to premium products and services, ancillary revenue, and card spend. That was his approximate conference description, not a precise audited segment percentage. His argument was that the airline’s overall revenue mix has broadened and stronger premium returns can offset a small negative in Main Cabin.

Capacity matched to demand
Chief Financial Officer Daniel Janki said Delta was still planning for 2026 and described the planning philosophy as aligning capacity with demand. That indicates management’s stated approach as of September 2025; it is not confirmation of a later schedule or seat-count change.
More customer options
Hauenstein said Delta planned to iterate on and expand Comfort+ and add customer options. The conference statement describes an intention, not proof that those changes have since been completed. He also said the average age of a Delta One customer was 61; that, too, was an executive statement at the conference rather than an independently confirmed statistic.

What this means for interpreting Delta’s performance
Delta’s comments point to a distinction between the returns of a particular cabin and the airline’s broader revenue mix. Management said Main Cabin returns remained negative, while premium products and other revenue streams helped offset that weakness. The transcript does not disclose comparable audited margins for each cabin, so it cannot establish how large the gap was or how it varied by route.
For investors or customers assessing the claim, keep the evidence in its proper scope: it is a September 2025 management account of cabin trends and strategy, not a standalone finding about transatlantic flight economics.
