The company says the seal is covered by stainless steel and inaccessible while that cover remains intact. It does not provide a product-specific lead-exposure measurement in its FAQ, so the presence of lead in the sealing process is not, by itself, evidence that lead is reaching your drink.
Where Stanley says the lead is
Stanley 1913’s official FAQ says its vacuum-insulation process uses a sealing material that includes lead. The company describes the seal as being at the base of its products, beneath a durable stainless-steel layer. Stanley says that layer makes the area inaccessible to consumers and that lead is not on surfaces that contact the consumer or the contents while the cover is intact.
Those are the manufacturer’s statements about its design. The sources available here do not establish a measured lead exposure from any individual tumbler, nor do they show that lead has entered a drink. The FAQ identifies the Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler in its answer; do not assume every Stanley product or model has identical construction without checking its product information.
What to do if the base is damaged
Stanley says a base cap that comes off through ordinary use and exposes the seal is eligible for its lifetime warranty. If you can see the seal or the base cover is missing, contact Stanley for warranty service rather than treating the product as though its protective cover were intact. Confirm warranty eligibility and current service or replacement-part options with the company.

What Stanley’s compliance statement does—and does not—show
Stanley says its products comply with FDA requirements and California Proposition 65. That statement is not a model-specific laboratory report or an exposure measurement. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment explains that Proposition 65 warnings concern potential exposure; it advises consumers who want to understand a warning to ask the manufacturer or importer what exposure prompted it: OEHHA’s Proposition 65 FAQ.
A California Department of Toxic Substances Control fact sheet gives limits for certain tableware categories, including food-service tableware, and describes a Proposition 65 warning threshold for cups or mugs. Those category-specific regulatory values are not test results for Stanley tumblers and do not establish whether a particular cup exposes its user to lead: DTSC’s lead-in-tableware fact sheet.

- Base cover intact: Stanley says the seal is covered and inaccessible. The available sources do not quantify exposure from an intact tumbler.

- Want to understand a warning or compliance claim: Ask Stanley for information about the specific model and the basis for the claim; the general statements do not substitute for a model-specific exposure measurement.
