The aim was to help ag retailers and their grower customers organize field and practice data for possible carbon-market participation. It was a preparation and data-alignment proposition—not a promise of carbon credits, a buyer, or farmer income.
What the companies announced
The release, attributed to Houston, Texas, named ag retailers, trusted advisers, and their grower customers as the intended users. It described GROWERS Rally as a retailer sales-planning and tracking platform and Arva Carbon Ready as the carbon-readiness program it would support. Arva published the announcement on April 11, 2022, while the release itself is dated March 24, 2022; those are different dates. Arva’s announcement and its reproduction by Successful Farming describe the intended arrangement.
The companies’ central idea was that data already gathered in ordinary retailer-grower operations might provide a starting point for assessing carbon opportunities, rather than requiring every grower to recreate records from scratch. That could reduce preparation work, but data compatibility alone cannot establish that a field qualifies for a program or that a credit can be issued.
How Rally data was meant to support Carbon Ready
Rally: operational and sales records
According to the announcement, Rally captured field-level information such as crops, products, application rates, and farming practices. It was also described as a sales-enhancement, planning, and tracking tool. Those are useful agronomic and commercial records; the announcement did not describe Rally as a complete carbon-accounting system.

Carbon Ready: readiness and opportunity assessment
Earlier descriptions said Carbon Ready was intended for trusted advisers and growers. It began with agronomic data already being collected, identified information gaps, helped match farms with potential credit opportunities, and quantified the effects of existing practices. These were program aims, not evidence that a particular farm passed eligibility review or received credits. See the descriptions from AgriMarketing and CropLife.
What a likely workflow would involve
The announcement does not publish a complete user workflow. In practical terms, the proposed data link could support a sequence like this, but the later steps are not documented as completed transactions:

- 7 year limited warranty; Equipped with end of life signal chirp, so you know when it’s time to replace the unit for safety
- A retailer records grower, field, crop, input, rate, and practice information in its normal workflow.
- Those records are reviewed for gaps, consistency, and relevance to a potential program.
- A carbon program assesses eligibility and determines what additional history, evidence, or management changes are required.
- Potentially eligible growers proceed to separate project development, monitoring, verification, and buyer or registry processes.
The announcement did not state an onboarding sequence, eligibility threshold, required acreage, contract terms, credit price, or payment schedule. “Prepare customers” should therefore be read as organizing and assessing potential opportunities, not as assured market access.
Why retailer records can help—and where they stop
Retailers may have recurring relationships with growers and records tied to crop plans, input applications, rates and timing, tillage or residue practices, fertilizer use, product purchases, and sometimes field boundaries. Gathering information through those existing relationships can make enrollment less burdensome and can help identify which fields merit further review. Arva’s release called such data building blocks for carbon-market participation.

But a set of sales or agronomic records does not by itself prove a quantified climate benefit. Depending on the particular program, the records may need to be supplemented with historical practice data, field boundaries, soil information, dates of management changes, sampling, modeling, remote sensing, or other evidence. A grower’s existing conservation practices may have environmental value yet fail a program’s additionality rules if the program requires a new change beyond business as usual.
It is also important to distinguish estimates from evidence. A model using practice records, soils, weather, and remote sensing can help screen opportunities, but a modeled estimate is not the same as direct measurement or independent verification. Credits are not automatically comparable across programs: baselines, additionality, permanence, leakage, monitoring, verification, and buyer use affect what a claimed ton represents.

Readiness, credit issuance, and revenue are separate stages
- Readiness: organize data, identify missing records, and screen practices or fields for possible program fit.
- Credit generation: apply a recognized methodology, establish a baseline and additionality, monitor outcomes, undergo verification, and meet issuance rules.
- Monetization: find a buyer and complete a transaction under disclosed commercial terms.
The 2022 partnership announcement primarily addressed the first stage and described a path toward the next ones. It did not document a completed credit issuance or sale, an independently verified result, a named buyer, or a specific registry methodology. Arva’s managing director presented carbon markets as a possible new revenue stream for farmers and retailers; the announcement did not quantify that opportunity. An earlier Arva partnership with Bluesource provides context for Arva’s stated carbon-market strategy, but not proof of results from the GROWERS arrangement. The Bluesource announcement described agricultural carbon-offset work.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the partnership did not establish
- No guaranteed farmer payment, credit volume, or access to a buyer.
- No per-acre payment, credit price, minimum acreage, subscription price, implementation fee, or retailer compensation.
- No public contract terms, revenue split, or payment timing.
- No disclosed integration architecture, API details, data-retention terms, or data-ownership rules.
- No reported adoption by a named retailer, grower results, or independent verification.
- No published methodology showing how baselines, additionality, permanence, or reversals would be handled.
- No confirmation in the available announcement material that the products or partnership continued in 2026.
These omissions matter economically. Revenue, if available through a separate program, depends on eligibility, practice adoption, quantification, verification, buyer demand, credit quality, contract terms, and transaction costs. It may also be delayed and tied to multi-year commitments. A retailer’s time spent cleaning data, enrolling growers, supporting audits, and managing records can outweigh expected compensation if the commercial arrangement is weak.

What ag retailers and growers should check before enrolling
The announcement did not answer the following buyer and participant questions. Retailers should get the answers in writing before recommending any carbon program; growers should review the same points before sharing records or committing practices.
Data and integration
- Can the system import ERP, precision-ag, farm-management, and application records? Are records available by grower, field, crop, and season?
- Can users correct errors while preserving an audit trail? Does the platform distinguish planned applications from completed applications?
- Can records be exported if the retailer changes providers, and are integrations, APIs, and implementation fees documented?
Program eligibility and evidence
- Which methodologies and registries are supported, and which practices qualify?
- How is the baseline set, and does the program require a new practice or management change for additionality?
- Are benefits based on measured soil-carbon change, modeled estimates, emissions reductions, or a combination? Who monitors, reports, and verifies them?
- What sampling or remote-sensing evidence is required, and what happens if stored carbon is later released? Ask about buffer pools, reversal obligations, and replacement-credit requirements.
Contracts, economics, and farmer trust
- Who owns the environmental attributes, who receives credits, and how are proceeds divided among grower, retailer, platform, project developer, verifier, and buyer?
- Are there fees before credits sell, exclusivity clauses, acreage commitments, or multi-year obligations? What happens if a grower exits, changes rented land, has a crop failure, or reverses a practice?
- What records must the grower keep, and when or how is payment made? Is any amount guaranteed, projected, or contingent on a sale?
- Does the grower explicitly consent to data sharing? Can data be used for input marketing, benchmarking, or resale, and what happens to it after a contract ends?
- Could the same practice or environmental benefit be claimed by a farmer, retailer, input supplier, grain buyer, biofuel producer, or another sustainability program? Contracts should prevent double counting and define who can claim or retire the attribute.
How to interpret the announcement in 2026
The partnership is best treated as historical context for a strategy in which ag retailers act as data and enrollment intermediaries for environmental markets. A later CropLife article discusses retailers’ growing role in low-carbon agricultural markets, including 45Z, but that broader trend does not demonstrate that the 2022 Arva-GROWERS relationship remains active: CropLife’s 45Z coverage.
The announcement material does not establish whether Arva Carbon Ready or GROWERS Rally remains commercially available, whether their integration is active, their current ownership or terms, or how many growers, verified credits, or sales resulted. A current buyer should confirm those details directly, along with supported methodologies, buyer or registry access, pricing, data portability, and completed project outcomes. The available historical announcement cannot answer those current-status questions.
