Seattle-headquartered Seasalt.ai announced a $4.2 million seed round in 2024, led by Unlock Venture Partners. Its SeaChat product is designed to answer customer questions across messaging channels and phone calls, handle routine tasks such as lead qualification and appointment booking, and bring in human agents when needed. GeekWire reported the round on November 18, 2024; the verified funding information does not establish a later financing round.

What Seasalt.ai raised and who invested

The $4.2 million was a seed round. Unlock Venture Partners led it, with participation from Z Venture Capital (ZVC), SparkLabs Taiwan, Grand Vision Capital Group, and PatientsForce. Seasalt lists its headquarters in Seattle and an R&D and support center in Taipei. Seasalt.ai’s company overview lists the round and investors; GeekWire’s November 18, 2024 report covered the announcement.

The customer-service problem SeaChat targets

Businesses can receive customer inquiries by phone, text, website chat, social media, and messaging apps. If staff are unavailable, routine questions may wait and potential leads may go unanswered. Seasalt’s pitch is to use AI agents to respond promptly, including outside regular business hours, while reserving human help for interactions that need it. The goal is not simply to add a website chatbot: the company describes a broader customer-communications platform spanning digital messaging and voice. GeekWire’s coverage describes the business problem behind the funding.

What SeaChat can do

SeaChat is Seasalt’s customer-response AI product. The company describes it as a no-code tool for creating agents from business knowledge, though that positioning does not mean every integration or enterprise deployment is free of technical work. Its listed use cases include answering FAQs, handling customer-service conversations, prequalifying leads, booking appointments, acting as a receptionist, and conducting surveys. It also describes conversation history and customer profiles, integrations with external tools or APIs, and transfer to human agents. These are product capabilities presented by Seasalt, not independent performance findings. See the SeaChat product page and company overview.

Channels and human support

Seasalt lists WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, LINE, website chat, SMS, and voice or phone calls among its supported channels. Plan availability can differ: the public pricing page lists selected messaging and website channels for its free plan, while phone-related features appear among Premium features. Businesses should confirm channel access and usage charges for their chosen plan.

SeaChat also describes a human-support workspace where agents can take over conversations, review content, label conversation status, and search interaction history. That collaboration matters because an AI response is not a substitute for a safe escalation path. Public product material does not establish whether handoff is automatic, whether customers retain full context in every channel, whether confidence thresholds can be configured, or what specific compliance and audit controls are available. Buyers handling sensitive or high-stakes requests should verify those details directly before deployment.

Why voice, languages, and LINE matter

Seasalt’s positioning combines text and telephone automation, rather than focusing only on chat. It also emphasizes multilingual conversations and code-switching—the practice of moving between languages in a conversation. ZVC highlighted the company’s code-switching expertise in connection with its investment, while the founders’ backgrounds are in speech recognition and natural-language processing. Those credentials and claims help explain the product’s intended differentiation, but they are not independent benchmarks of accuracy across languages, accents, or noisy calls. GeekWire’s report covers the investor perspective and founders.

The LINE relationship also gives the round a regional dimension. Seasalt says the ZVC connection provides access to LINE business call APIs, and GeekWire reported ZVC’s interest in voice AI for businesses using LINE. That points to a potential distribution opportunity in Asia-Pacific; it does not establish broad adoption or guaranteed access for every customer. Seasalt also announced a relationship with Twilio involving Twilio Flex and cloud contact centers in Asia-Pacific and Japan. The partnership positions Seasalt’s software alongside Twilio communications and contact-center infrastructure; it does not imply exclusivity or prove product performance. Twilio’s announcement describes the regional relationship.

Who founded Seasalt.ai

CEO Xuchen Yao and CTO Guoguo Chen co-founded the company in 2020. Both previously co-founded KITT.AI, which was acquired by Baidu in 2017. GeekWire reported that the founders spent two years at Baidu before starting Seasalt. Seasalt’s company page says Yao holds a Ph.D. in natural-language processing from Johns Hopkins University and Chen holds a Ph.D. in speech recognition from the same university. The company overview and GeekWire’s report provide the company history.

How large Seasalt was at the funding announcement

GeekWire reported that Seasalt had about 10,000 users, 200 paying customers, and 23 employees around the November 18, 2024 funding announcement. The user count is not a count of paying businesses, and these are historical figures, not verified company metrics for 2026.

Products beyond SeaChat

SeaMeet covers meeting summaries, minutes, semantic analytics, and voice-related meeting tools. SeaVoice, which the company says launched in 2025, provides voice-AI infrastructure for inbound and outbound phone agents. GeekWire also reported that Seasalt was pitching healthcare products for patient communication and senior-care check-ins. Pricing and what a business should check

When the U.S. pricing display was reviewed on August 16, 2026, the SeaChat page showed a free plan, Premium at $29.99 per month, and an Enterprise option requiring contact with sales. These are a dated snapshot of a dynamic page, not a guarantee of current or permanent prices. The displayed Premium subscription should not be treated as an all-in price for phone service: telephony, numbers, SMS and WhatsApp fees, AI usage, extra users, workspaces, integrations, and setup may affect total cost. The public page does not provide a complete total-cost model. Check current plan limits, channel access, and applicable charges on the SeaChat pricing page.

What the $4.2 million means—and what it does not

The round backed a Seattle-founded company trying to combine AI customer support, telephone agents, multilingual messaging, and human-agent collaboration, with a Taipei presence and relationships relevant to Asia-Pacific distribution. Its potential competitive distinction is the breadth of channels and voice-plus-text approach; the available facts do not establish that it outperforms other customer-service platforms. Nor do they show how Seasalt allocated the funding or prove that its regional partnerships have already produced broad customer adoption.
