Bluehost can make it easier to launch and maintain a small-business website by bundling self-hosted WordPress hosting with setup tools, migration, security features, and—on store-focused plans—WooCommerce functions. It can support growth by reducing technical friction, but it does not create traffic or sales on its own. Choose by the work your site does, the resources it needs, and the renewal price you can sustain.

What Bluehost’s WordPress solutions include

Bluehost’s offering is more than the WordPress software: it combines hosting with tools and services intended to help run a self-hosted WordPress site. Bluehost appears on WordPress.org’s recommended-hosting page; that listing is not a guarantee of performance or a substitute for checking a plan against your needs.

Depending on the plan, Bluehost lists a migration tool, SSL, CDN, caching, managed WordPress updates, staging, SSH and WP-CLI access, weekly backups, malware scanning, and AI-assisted site creation. The plan comparison is at Bluehost’s WordPress hosting page. These features solve different problems:

Feature Potential business value What it does not guarantee
SSL Encrypts connections between a visitor’s browser and the site. It does not fix vulnerable plugins, weak passwords, or insecure code.
CDN and caching Can speed delivery of cached pages and static files, such as images. Performance still depends on the theme, plugins, database work, and traffic; logged-in and checkout pages may not be cacheable.
Managed updates Reduces routine WordPress maintenance. An update can still conflict with a theme or plugin. Test important changes and keep a recovery option.
Staging Provides a place to test site changes before publishing them. Availability and resource limits depend on the plan; staging is not a substitute for a backup.
Migration tool Can make a move from another host less technical. Complex, large, multisite, or customized sites may require manual work. A smooth transfer is not guaranteed for every configuration.
Weekly backups Offer a potential recovery point after an error or update problem. Confirm retention, restoration terms, and whether backups are independent of the hosting account. Keep a separate backup for a business-critical site.
AI-assisted site creation Can speed up an initial layout and draft copy. Generated content still needs review for accuracy, brand fit, accessibility, legal obligations, and search quality.
WooCommerce functions Can simplify setup for products, payments, memberships, subscriptions, or courses on eligible plans. Payment fees, tax, shipping, fraud controls, and transactional email require separate decisions.

Bluehost describes its service as 24/7 support, but support channels differ in the detailed plan comparison: Starter lists chat, while Business and eCommerce Essentials list phone and chat. Verify the channel included with the tier you select at the plan comparison.

Choose a plan for the site’s job

The published traffic numbers below are Bluehost’s suitability guidance, not capacity guarantees. A cached informational page and a WooCommerce checkout place different demands on a server, even with similar visit counts.

Plan Published scale signals Notable features and fit
Starter Up to 10 websites; 10 GB SSD storage; guidance of about 40,000 visits per month. Consider for a brochure site, portfolio, early blog, or simple lead-generation site. Lists chat support, but not malware removal, WooCommerce auto-install, secure payment processing, memberships, subscriptions, or course tools.
Business Up to 50 websites; 50 GB NVMe storage; guidance of about 200,000 visits per month. Consider for a growing or content-heavy business with more storage needs. Lists phone and chat support and malware detection/removal. It does not list the commerce features included with eCommerce Essentials.
eCommerce Essentials Up to 100 websites; 100 GB NVMe storage; guidance of about 400,000 visits per month. For a first WooCommerce store or a business that needs listed tools for payments, product subscriptions, visitor memberships, courses, and social logins. The plan comparison also lists WooCommerce auto-install and custom email templates.
Pro, Premium, Enhanced, Elite Higher tiers appear in Bluehost’s plan lineup; compare each plan’s site, storage, traffic, and resource details before choosing. Potential upgrades as needs change, but the names alone do not establish enterprise-grade capacity. Check CPU/PHP resources if disclosed, backup and security scope, support channel, resource isolation, infrastructure, and overage or suspension rules.

Use the published estimates as a prompt to investigate, not as a promise that a particular volume will run smoothly. Dynamic pages—such as search, account areas, memberships, carts, and checkout—can generate more server work than cached content. If your site is revenue-critical, ask what happens when resources are exceeded and whether the plan offers the isolation and recovery options your business needs.

How hosting can support growth—and what it cannot do

  • Launch with less setup: Hosting, WordPress tools, domain options, SSL, and migration from one provider can reduce the number of separate services to configure.
  • Spend less time on routine operations: Managed updates, caching, and support can help an owner focus on publishing, service, and sales rather than server administration.
  • Improve delivery: CDN and caching can help serve eligible content efficiently, but page speed also depends on site design, images, plugins, and database queries.
  • Change the site more safely: Staging lets you try major changes before they affect visitors, while a tested backup gives you a possible route back.
  • Add ways to earn: WooCommerce can support product sales and, with appropriate tools, subscriptions, memberships, or courses.

Hosting does not guarantee search rankings, leads, sales, conversion rates, uptime, or security. Growth still depends on a useful offer, clear messaging, content, marketing, analytics, sales follow-up, and customer retention. For security, check that the hosting environment supports current PHP and database versions; WordPress.org’s requirements page explains its current technical requirements and warns about risks from outdated software.

Is Bluehost suitable for a WooCommerce store?

Choose a standard WordPress plan if the site is primarily informational and does not need the store-specific features Bluehost lists for eCommerce Essentials. Consider a commerce plan when you want WooCommerce setup and tools for payments, subscriptions, memberships, or courses bundled with hosting. Bluehost describes its WooCommerce plans as including preinstalled WooCommerce, payment integrations, enhanced security, CDN and caching, migration, and 24/7 support; check the current plan details at the WooCommerce pricing page.

Before committing, map the full store operation—not just the hosting feature list:

  • Catalog size, product variations, and inventory complexity.
  • Payment gateway availability, processing fees, and any payment-provider requirements.
  • Shipping rates, tax calculation, refunds, and fraud review.
  • Subscription renewals or membership access rules, if relevant.
  • Transactional email delivery for receipts, password resets, and order updates.
  • Checkout performance under peak demand, including promotions and seasonal traffic.
  • Plugin and theme compatibility, plus an independent backup and a tested restore process.

Hosting does not provide product photography, legal policies, customer service, inventory operations, or a complete allocation of payment-card compliance responsibilities. A store with sophisticated fulfillment, ERP integrations, complex international operations, or unusually demanding checkout requirements may need additional configuration or a different infrastructure arrangement.

Set up a new business site carefully

  1. Define the site’s purpose. Decide whether it must generate leads, accept bookings, publish content, sell products, or run memberships or courses.
  2. Estimate the first-year requirements. Count sites, estimate storage and traffic, and list the integrations and support channels the business needs.
  3. Select a plan and domain arrangement. Check current eligibility, contract term, renewal price, and included features before purchase.
  4. Install WordPress or use the AI-assisted creation flow. Treat generated copy and layouts as drafts, not approved brand or compliance material.
  5. Build on a suitable theme and configure the basics. Set the site title, permalinks, HTTPS, time zone, administrator accounts, privacy and cookie settings, and contact forms.
  6. Limit plugins to what the site needs. Configure analytics, Search Console, conversion tracking, and reliable email delivery.
  7. Test before launch. Check forms, mobile layouts, redirects, checkout if applicable, backup access, and restoration steps. Use staging before major theme, plugin, or PHP changes.
  8. Launch with monitoring. Confirm that search engines are not being asked to index a staging copy, and monitor uptime, forms, and orders after launch.

Control-panel labels and workflows can change, so use Bluehost’s current dashboard guidance rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

Move an existing WordPress site without skipping checks

  1. Check compatibility first. Confirm that the destination plan supports the site’s storage, expected traffic, PHP version, multisite setup, and plugins.
  2. Make a separate full backup. Save both site files and the database outside the account you are moving.
  3. Record what else must move or remain configured. Note DNS records, email accounts, cron jobs, redirects, SSL settings, payment integrations, and scheduled tasks.
  4. Use Bluehost’s migration tool if the site is eligible. Bluehost advertises migration intended to avoid downtime, but no interruption-free result is guaranteed for every site.
  5. Test on a temporary or staging address. Review media, internal links, forms, checkout, subscription renewals, canonical URLs, search-indexing directives, caching, and transactional email.
  6. Prepare the DNS change. If possible, lower the DNS time to live before cutover. Change DNS only after testing the destination.
  7. Keep the old host active during the transition. Wait for DNS propagation and verify that site traffic and email are reaching the expected services.
  8. Monitor after cutover. Check logs, orders, forms, uptime, redirects, and scheduled tasks; retain a rollback route until the new site is stable.

Large, customized, or multisite migrations can require manual review or professional help. A migration tool lowers the barrier; it does not remove the need to test integrations and email.

Budget for renewal and the full cost of ownership

Bluehost publishes renewal pricing separately from introductory offers. The following are the renewal figures shown on its WordPress hosting page: monthly billing, or the effective monthly rate for a 12- or 36-month renewal term. Prices and promotions can change, so verify the amount and billing commitment at checkout. See the current WordPress plan comparison and Bluehost’s renewal-price FAQ.

Plan Monthly renewal 12-month renewal equivalent 36-month renewal equivalent
Starter $15.99/month $11.99/month $9.99/month
Business $21.99/month $16.99/month $14.99/month
eCommerce Essentials $24.99/month $18.99/month $17.99/month
Pro $34.99/month $28.99/month $26.99/month
Premium $39.99/month $34.99/month $31.99/month
Enhanced $47.49/month $40.65/month $39.49/month
Elite $54.99/month $48.99/month $46.99/month

For the separately listed Bluehost WooCommerce plans, published renewal pricing is:

Plan Monthly 12-month term 36-month term
eCommerce Essentials $32.99/month $24.99/month $21.99/month
eCommerce Premium $38.99/month $33.99/month $30.99/month

The figures and plan details are published at Bluehost’s WooCommerce pricing page. Compare the exact product and term at checkout rather than assuming the WordPress and WooCommerce price tables describe interchangeable plans.

Include more than hosting in your budget. Bluehost says a free domain is included for one year with qualifying 12- or 36-month hosting terms; later domain renewal is separate. Eligibility and included services can vary by product, term, location, or promotion, so confirm them before paying at Bluehost’s pricing page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Domain renewal after any included first year.
  • Paid themes, plugins, or extensions.
  • Payment processing and any subscription or gateway fees.
  • Email marketing and professional email after any trial or included period.
  • Optional backup or security services, if needed.
  • Migration, development, design, copywriting, or integration work.

Use the renewal amount—not a temporary introductory price—as the baseline for a multi-year budget. Bluehost notes that pricing can change; verify renewal terms before you commit.

When Bluehost may not be the right fit

Bluehost is a reasonable starting point when one provider for hosting, domain, SSL, migration, and WordPress setup is more valuable than deep infrastructure control. Be more cautious if the site is mission-critical, has a large catalog or heavy database use, serves substantial logged-in traffic, or needs customized deployment and infrastructure workflows.

  • Traffic estimates are not guarantees. A site may serve many cached visits yet struggle with fewer dynamic requests. Monitor response time, database performance, and resource use rather than relying on monthly visits alone.
  • Backups need a recovery plan. A backup in the same account or provider environment may not protect against every account, credential, billing, or provider failure. Maintain an independent copy and test restoration.
  • Updates can cause conflicts. Use staging for significant changes, update carefully, and know how to roll back.
  • Security is shared work. Hosting controls cannot prevent every vulnerable plugin, compromised account, insecure customization, or social-engineering attack.
  • Support channel matters. If phone support is essential, confirm that it is part of the exact plan rather than relying on a general 24/7 claim.

Reassess your plan or provider when traffic repeatedly approaches Bluehost’s guidance, performance remains poor after site optimization, storage fills with media or staging data, the site needs more resources or isolation, or a security incident reveals a recovery gap. A VPS, cloud platform, or premium managed WordPress host may be more appropriate when the business needs dedicated resources, more control, or stronger operational support.

Alternatives to compare by business need

Provider Consider comparing it when… Published pricing signal and qualification
SiteGround You want to compare managed tools, caching, backups, migration, and human support. The observed prepaid 12-month offers were StartUp at $2.99/month, renewing at $17.99/month; GrowBig at $4.99/month, renewing at $29.99/month; and GoGeek at $7.99/month, renewing at $44.99/month. Verify current terms.
Hostinger You are cost-conscious and willing to commit to a long introductory term. The observed Premium offer was $2.99/month for a 48-month term, renewing at $10.99/month; Cloud Startup was $7.99/month, renewing at $25.99/month. Verify current terms.
DreamHost You want to compare a WordPress-focused shared option with a managed DreamPress tier. DreamPress 1 was shown at $14.99/month for the first year and renewing at $19.99/month. See also DreamHost’s hosting page and verify current terms.
Kinsta The site is performance-sensitive, agency-managed, or important enough to justify a premium managed-hosting comparison. Single-site business plans were shown starting at $35/month monthly or $30/month with annual billing; enterprise plans were shown starting at $500/month. Verify current plan details.

These are snapshots of published offers, not like-for-like performance comparisons. Compare renewal price, term, site and storage limits, backup retention, support channel, migration eligibility, commerce functions, and cancellation terms before switching.
