Microsoft Rewards Is Changing in 2026—and Users Are Protesting the New System

Microsoft is rolling out a reworked Rewards experience with Member, Silver and Gold levels, revised search limits and new monthly bonuses. Users have criticized the changes, but Microsoft has not confirmed that protests caused the redesign. Because limits and offers can vary by region and account, check the live Rewards dashboard rather than relying on older screenshots or guides.

What Microsoft changed in the current Rewards experience

Microsoft’s current Rewards overview describes three levels and a set of search limits, bonuses and coupons. The figures below are those shown on that page; they are not a guarantee that every account or market has the same offers.

Microsoft lists five points per qualifying search. PC and mobile searches draw from one shared daily limit, not separate device allowances. The search totals in the table are therefore search-only ceilings under the current overview, not total daily earning limits; other activities and offers may be available.

Level-up activities and monthly bonuses

Activities that Microsoft says may count toward Gold progression include searching with Bing for seven consecutive days, checking in to the Bing app for seven days, completing the Daily Set for seven days in a row, using Bing as the default search engine for 14 days, having Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and owning an Xbox Mastercard, which is listed as U.S.-only. Activity availability can depend on country and account.

The page also lists three possible monthly bonuses. The Default Search Bonus is 50 points for Member, 150 for Silver and 350 for Gold; it requires PC searches on at least 14 days in the month. Bing Star can award up to 500, 1,500 or 3,500 points by level, based on engagement and a behavioral score Microsoft describes as rewarding genuine, organic use. The level bonus is 100, 300 or 700 points by level. These bonuses are claimable at the start of the following month, not automatically credited: claim them from the Rewards website within 30 days or they expire.

Silver and Gold coupons are listed as 100 and 200 points respectively. They can be applied toward an item when redeeming, expire at month-end, and are based on the level held on the last day of the previous month. Catalogs, redemption terms and point values may differ by market.

Why some users see different rules

Microsoft’s current overview uses Member, Silver and Gold, while its general Rewards support page still describes Level 1 and Level 2 and says those members may earn points for up to 10 and 30 searches per day, respectively. That conflicts with the newer page’s 5, 10 and 20 search limits. The material available does not establish whether the mismatch reflects a regional difference, a staged account rollout or older support copy.

For your account, the live dashboard and current regional Rewards page are the practical reference. Microsoft says earning methods, offers and redemption availability vary by country or region; level and activity can also affect what appears. A U.S. account, for example, may have offers or level-up activities unavailable elsewhere. Avoid treating a community spreadsheet or another user’s daily total as a universal cap.

What users are protesting

Posts in the Microsoft Rewards community, including reports from U.S. users, describe frustration with reduced or restructured earning, a less predictable path to points, activities moved around the dashboard, and inconsistent access to the new layout. Other users have said streaks are harder to find or feel less valuable, daily activities did not credit as expected, or redemption options changed in their market. A separate discussion of the update illustrates the broader uncertainty about navigation and regional differences.

These are reports of individual experiences, not proof that every user lost the same features or earning potential. A missing tile could reflect a deliberate change, eligibility or region, a staged rollout, a sign-in mismatch or a technical problem. Nor does a lower search ceiling by itself establish a lower total for every user: bonuses, Xbox activities and other offers may change the total for eligible accounts.

Streak protection is a particular point of confusion

Microsoft’s currently published streak-protection documentation says users receive 14 protection days per calendar year, cannot earn additional days, and have the allowance reset at the start of each new year. Some users have reported seeing 10 days or altered streak behavior during the rollout, but that does not match the current official support page and is not established as a universal policy change.

Did protests cause Microsoft to change Rewards?

The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Microsoft is changing the Rewards experience, and users have publicly criticized it. Microsoft’s Rewards overview invites feedback, and Windows Central has reported on a Rewards feedback portal where users can suggest features, vote on feedback and track progress. The available sources do not show Microsoft saying protests caused the underlying redesign or that it reversed a particular change because of them. “Following” is supportable as a matter of chronology, not confirmed cause and effect.

How to check your own account

1. Sign in to Microsoft Rewards with the Microsoft account you use to earn points.
2. Check the level shown on your dashboard and the displayed progress toward the next level.
3. Review the search limit and count shown for your account; do not add separate PC and mobile allowances.
4. Open the area marked “Ready to claim” and claim any monthly bonus before its displayed deadline.
5. Review the listed level-up activities and the redemption catalog available in your market.
6. If searches or activities fail to credit, confirm the signed-in account, market and device time zone. Microsoft says VPN use, being outside the current market, automated or artificial search patterns, and reaching the applicable limit can prevent credit.
7. For missing points, a failed redemption or an account-specific streak issue, use Microsoft Rewards support guidance. For a policy or interface complaint, use the Rewards feedback control.

Do not use scripts, macros, bots or VPNs to try to increase points or bypass a limit; Microsoft’s rules may restrict or disqualify activity that appears automated or manipulated.

Xbox Rewards is related, but it is not the same change

Xbox gameplay quests and Game Pass mechanics sit within the wider Rewards ecosystem, but they should not be conflated with the Member/Silver/Gold redesign. Microsoft’s Rewards with Xbox page describes gameplay changes that began in October 2025: Game Pass Ultimate members could earn up to 100,000 points per year through gameplay, compared with 58,000 the previous year. That figure is a gameplay earning limit for the specified membership, not an annual cap on all Microsoft Rewards earning or redemption. Other earning sources remain separate.

What remains uncertain

• Whether all users will move to the same levels, limits and dashboard at the same time.
• When Microsoft will reconcile the different search limits in its current overview and legacy support copy.
• Whether reported streak differences apply to any particular region or account cohort; the published support page currently says 14 protection days annually.
• Whether Microsoft will change limits or bonuses in response to feedback.

Points already earned should not be assumed to have been removed just because the dashboard changed or an activity is missing. Microsoft’s support guidance says points generally expire after 12 months without earning activity; points have no cash value, and the approximate redemption value can vary.
