Coursera Financial Aid: How to Check Eligibility and Apply

Coursera course aid is selective, while degree funding is handled through university partners. Here’s where to check and what to verify before applying.

Coursera financial aid is available only for select learning programs. To check whether it is offered for a course or certificate, open that program’s description page and look for a financial aid or scholarship application link. Degree funding follows a separate route: check the university partner’s information, because Coursera says degree scholarship and tuition-assistance applications are not submitted directly through Coursera.

Is financial aid available for every Coursera course?

No. Coursera says learners can apply for financial aid or a scholarship in select learning programs if they cannot afford the enrollment fee. Availability is specific to the program, so do not assume that a course, certificate, or specialization offers aid.

Start on the description page for the exact program you want. Coursera says the application link appears there when aid is available. If you do not see a link, the official information does not establish that aid is offered for that selection.

How to check the right funding route

  1. Decide what you are enrolling in. Identify whether it is a course or certificate, or a degree. The administrator and application route differ.
  2. For a course or certificate, open its description page. Look for the financial aid or scholarship application link. Follow the program’s instructions if the link is present.
  3. For a degree, check the university partner’s degree page. Coursera says many university partners offer applications for financial support, but students cannot apply for degree scholarships or tuition assistance directly through Coursera.
  4. Confirm the terms with the organization handling the aid. Check eligibility, covered costs, deadlines, and any stated decision timeline before relying on funding.

Course aid and degree funding are different

Funding route Where to check What Coursera establishes What you must confirm
Course or certificate aid The course or program description page Aid or a scholarship may be offered in select programs; an application link appears when available. Eligibility, application details, award amount, duration, review timeline, and access terms are program-specific and not established universally.
Degree funding The university partner’s degree page or financial-aid office Many university partners offer financial-support applications. Applications for degree scholarships or tuition assistance are not made directly through Coursera. Partner-specific eligibility, deadlines, covered tuition, and award terms.
Other funding Coursera’s Financial Resources hub and the relevant provider Coursera lists employer reimbursement, federal aid, scholarships and grants, prior learning credit, private loans, and resources for non-U.S. students. Eligibility, geographic availability, repayment obligations, and provider-specific terms.

How much can Coursera financial aid cover?

There is no general course-aid approval rate or typical award amount established in the official sources reviewed. Do not plan around a particular percentage or assume aid will cover the full enrollment fee; use the terms shown on the individual program’s application page.

A separate, specific example is the Gies College of Business and Coursera Scholarship Program. Coursera’s Financial Resources hub describes a limited number of competitive scholarships per year that may cover 70% of a student’s full tuition. That figure concerns this named degree scholarship program, not Coursera course aid generally. Check the program page for current eligibility and availability.

What if there is no application link or the aid is not enough?

Check the other funding categories in Coursera’s Financial Resources hub, then confirm details with the organization responsible for each option. Coursera names employer tuition reimbursement, U.S. federal aid, scholarships and grants, prior learning credit, private loans, and resources for non-U.S. students. Its hub also names Scholly as a resource for finding scholarships and grants; that is a separate funding-search route, not an application for Coursera course aid.

Compare alternatives by who administers them, which costs they cover, deadlines, eligibility, and whether borrowing or repayment is involved. These terms can vary by provider, institution, program, and location.

How long does an application take?

Coursera’s current official information cited here does not set a universal review time. An archived community answer from 2021 mentioned 15 days, but it is not a current official guarantee. Rely on a timeline only if the specific program or institution currently provides one.
