As of August 18, 2026, Metro by T-Mobile advertises two leading free Samsung phone offers: the Galaxy A37 5G and Galaxy A17 5G. “Free” means the phone’s price is reduced to $0 by an instant discount when you meet the promotion’s requirements; it does not eliminate the cost of service or applicable taxes. The A37 offer is especially clear about its terms: Metro advertises it with a new line, a qualifying port-in and its $40 Period plan.
Which Samsung phones does Metro advertise as free?
Metro’s offers are time-sensitive and can vary by page, location, inventory and checkout. The table reflects offers advertised on Metro’s pages as of August 18, 2026; confirm that the same price and terms appear in your cart before ordering.
| Phone | Advertised device price | Main requirement | Service price shown | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A37 5G | $0 after an instant discount; Metro describes a $449.99 device discount | New line and qualifying port-in on the featured offer | $40 for the first month on the $40 Period offer | Some offer versions exclude current T-Mobile customers and people with Metro or T-Mobile service in the previous 180 days. The advertised line limit varies by page. |
| Galaxy A17 5G | $0 after an instant discount | New line and qualifying plan; the offer is presented in a bring-your-number context | Eligible plans shown as starting at $40 per month | Check whether a port-in is required for the exact offer, along with taxes, line limit and current eligibility terms. |
| Galaxy A16 5G | $0 after an instant discount on some listings | New line on a qualifying plan | Some page copy has shown $45 for the first month or $40 with AutoPay | Secondary listing; confirm it remains active and what plan price applies. |
| Galaxy A57 5G | $99.99 in one Metro listing | New line and qualifying port-in | Plan-dependent | Not a free-phone offer. |
| Galaxy S26 | $299.99 in one Metro listing | New line and qualifying plan | Plan-dependent | Not a free-phone offer. |
The primary listings are Metro’s $40 Period offer, free-phone deals and Samsung deals. Metro’s model lineup and promotion details can change, so a price on a general deals page is not a guarantee that a particular phone is available to you.
How the Galaxy A37 offer works
Metro advertises the Galaxy A37 5G at $0 after an instant discount on its $40 Period campaign. Metro describes the discount as $449.99 and says the $25 activation fee is waived for this offer. The stated first month of service is $40, and applicable sales tax may still be due. The offer requires a new line and a qualifying port-in; its terms also exclude certain current or recent Metro and T-Mobile customers. See the offer details and terms before enrolling.

- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
An instant discount is applied to the phone at checkout. It is not a series of monthly bill credits that you must wait to receive. But the discount is conditional on qualifying service, so it is not the same as buying an unlocked Samsung phone for $0 with no carrier relationship.
What the Galaxy A17 offer includes
Metro also lists the Galaxy A17 5G as free after an instant discount on qualifying new lines. Current offer copy shows eligible plans starting at $40 per month, with applicable taxes still relevant. The offer is limited-time and its qualification language can vary; check the A17’s product page and the linked promotion terms. Treat bringing your number as a likely requirement unless the live terms for your exact plan and order explicitly say otherwise.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

The A37 is the more prominent phone in the $40 Period campaign, while the A17 is another no-device-price option. The promotion details alone do not establish which handset is better for your needs; compare the current product specifications and decide whether the required plan suits you before choosing on the basis of “free.”
What you may pay on day one—and each month
Illustrative A37 first-order cost
- Phone: $0 after the advertised instant discount.
- Activation: $0 under the advertised A37 promotion, which waives the $25 activation fee.
- First month of service: $40 on the featured $40 Period offer.
- Taxes and extras: Applicable sales tax may be due; accessories, optional services or other add-ons cost extra.
This is an illustration of Metro’s advertised offer, not a promise that every customer’s checkout total will be exactly $40. Taxes depend on location, and the final cart controls what is charged.

Ongoing plan cost and trade-offs
The featured A37 promotion uses Metro’s $40 Period plan. Metro describes that plan as including taxes and fees and advertises a five-year price guarantee for eligible talk, text and 5G data. The guarantee is subject to exclusions and applies only while the customer remains on an eligible plan; it should not be read as a guarantee of every charge on the account. Add-ons, third-party services and per-use charges may be outside it. Review the current Metro plan information and the promotion terms.
Metro’s deal copy says heavy data use may be slowed when the network is busy, including after more than 35GB in a month, and that video may stream in SD on the relevant offer. Metro operates on T-Mobile’s network, but network management and congestion can affect actual speeds. If you regularly use a lot of data or rely on high-resolution streaming, weigh those conditions against the device discount.

Who is likely to qualify?
The exact requirements are promotion-specific, but the featured A37 offer is not simply a free phone for any Metro customer. Before starting, check these points in the live terms:
- New line: The prominent free-phone offers are structured around opening a qualifying new line, not simply upgrading an existing Metro line.
- Eligible plan: Choose the plan named in the offer. A different plan or order path may remove the instant discount.
- Port-in: Metro’s A37 $40 Period offer requires a qualifying number transfer. The A17 is also presented in a bring-your-number context, but verify its exact live terms.
- Recent service exclusions: Some versions exclude current T-Mobile customers and people who have had Metro or T-Mobile service in the previous 180 days.
- Line limit: The A37 limit has appeared as up to two lines on one page version and up to four on others; the A17 has been advertised for up to four. Confirm the limit in the terms for the actual offer in your cart.
- Availability and verification: Promotions may be limited-time or subject to stock. Metro says in-store customers may need to verify their name and address.
Existing Metro customers should look for upgrade offers rather than assume they can claim a new-line promotion. Metro presents some offers for existing customers separately; its Samsung deals page is the place to check current options.

How to claim the deal without losing the discount
- Open Metro’s Samsung deals page or the specific A37 or A17 product page.
- Select the advertised promotion and the qualifying plan. Choose a new-line path; provide the number to transfer if the offer requires a port-in.
- Have your current carrier account number, transfer or port-out PIN, billing ZIP code and active service ready. Requirements differ by carrier, so confirm the porting details with your current provider.
- Complete any identity or address verification requested during the order. For an in-store purchase, call ahead about stock, local taxes and the offer’s execution; Metro’s store locator can help you find a location.
- Before submitting the order, inspect the cart for the $0 device price after discount, the first-month plan charge, taxes, activation-fee treatment and any add-ons. Read the linked full terms and save the order confirmation and promotion details.
If the cart does not show a $0 phone price
Do not place the order on the assumption that the discount will appear later. A missing discount can mean the selected plan or line type is ineligible, the number cannot be ported, a recent-service exclusion applies, the promotion changed, the device is out of stock, or the order is showing a different Samsung offer. Return to the exact deal page, check the new-line and port-in selections, and compare the live cart with the full terms. If the mismatch remains, ask Metro to confirm eligibility before paying.
A waived activation fee is only one part of the offer; it does not remove the first month’s service, applicable taxes or optional purchases.
Is a Metro free Samsung deal worth it?
The A37 promotion is most compelling if you already intend to switch carriers, can port an eligible number and are comfortable with Metro’s plan and network terms. It is a weaker fit if you already have Metro service, cannot port your number, need flagship-level hardware, use heavy data in congested areas, or want immediate freedom to use the phone on another carrier. Metro’s promotion information does not establish the current unlocking policy for these specific promotions. Before buying, check Metro’s current device-unlock policy and treat unlocking and carrier compatibility as separate questions—especially if you need international travel flexibility or expect to switch providers.
Compare the total cost of the service you will actually keep with the cost of buying a phone elsewhere. If you would change plans or add an unnecessary line solely to receive the discount, the phone may not save you money overall. Metro’s offers are limited-time and subject to change; the final checkout terms, not an older listing, determine whether the deal works for you.
