His message is that AI could help managed service providers (MSPs) move beyond maintaining technology and toward delivering what Pax8 calls “managed intelligence.” The interview describes a strategic direction, not a newly announced product or a proven revenue opportunity: it offers no launch dates, partner economics, adoption figures, or technical specifications.
Who is Avery Moon, and why is his background relevant?
Moon assumed the CTO role earlier in August 2026, according to CRN’s interview. He previously held senior roles at LinkedIn, which is owned by Microsoft, and Indeed. The interview does not give his exact titles, employment dates, education, or a detailed record of achievements at either company.
The career themes it does identify—data, artificial intelligence, marketplaces, and platforms connecting multiple participants—map naturally to Pax8’s role. A marketplace has to serve vendors, partners, and customers at once; using data and AI to make those connections more useful is central to the strategic case Moon describes.
Why did Moon join Pax8?
Moon framed the opportunity around “today and tomorrow.” Today, he sees an established marketplace, a partner ecosystem, reach into small and midsize businesses (SMBs), and momentum. Tomorrow, he sees the potential for AI, agentic labor, and new workflows to change what MSPs can offer their customers.

That is Moon’s account of Pax8’s appeal, not independent evidence of a particular growth rate. He described the company as being on a hypergrowth trajectory, but the interview provides no revenue, market-share, or valuation figures to quantify that characterization. “This thing is a rocket ship” is a metaphor for his enthusiasm, not a measured business result.
What does “managed intelligence” mean?
In this interview, “managed intelligence” is Pax8’s strategic framing, not a universally standardized industry category. A useful working definition is an MSP service model in which providers use AI, automation, data, and agentic systems to deliver business outcomes—not just maintain infrastructure or administer software.
In practical terms, an MSP might help a customer identify a repeatable process suitable for automation, connect the relevant business data, configure an AI-enabled workflow, set human approval points, and monitor whether it works safely and reliably. These are examples of what the concept could involve, not announced Pax8 services.

The phrase implies a shift from selling access to technology toward taking responsibility for deploying and managing AI-enabled business capability. Moon says the industry will have to discover how quickly that shift happens and where it takes hold; the interview does not establish a timeline or a settled operating model.
What is Pax8’s AI thesis?
Pax8’s vision, as described in the interview, connects its marketplace and partner ecosystem with data, AI, and SMB customers. The intended logic is that a platform gives partners access to products and information; partners use those resources to improve service delivery; and SMBs receive more useful outcomes, strengthening the value of the ecosystem.
That is a strategic model, not a demonstrated flywheel. The interview does not quantify the effect, describe the software architecture, or show that better customer outcomes have already increased partner adoption. Moon says Pax8 launched a vision involving AI and agentic labor in 2025, referring to “last year” in the 2026 interview; an exact launch date and the scope of that announcement are not supplied.

What are Moon’s first-100-day priorities?
Moon describes a discovery-led start rather than a predetermined product announcement or restructuring plan. He wants to listen to customers, employees, partners, and people close to SMB needs, then synthesize what he learns into priorities.
- Understand what is working as well as what is not.
- Hear how partners and customers experience the marketplace and services.
- Learn how the internal team sees Pax8’s opportunities and obstacles.
- Use those perspectives to shape priorities instead of assuming a fixed agenda on arrival.
For a platform serving different vendors, partners, and SMBs, this approach can reveal where needs diverge. The interview does not identify specific initiatives Moon has selected as a result.
How could MSP services change?
The opportunity Moon describes could extend MSP work beyond conventional monitoring, help desk, device management, cloud administration, and infrastructure or security services. An MSP might also help deploy AI workflows, integrate business data, supervise agents, automate processes, or optimize productivity.
Rank #4
- 24-Gigabit ports provide instant large file transfers
- 9K Jumbo frame improves performance of large data transfers
- Effective network monitoring via Port Mirroring, Loop Prevention and Cable Diagnostics
- Abundant VLAN features improve network security via traffic segmentation
- IGMP Snooping optimizes multicast applications
Those possibilities do not establish whether Pax8 expects partners to build systems themselves, resell third-party products, manage customer deployments, or combine those approaches. Nor does the interview announce mandatory partner requirements, a certification program, or a specific product lineup.
What partners may need to build
As an analysis of the direction—not a Pax8 requirement—an AI-capable MSP may need skills in data governance, workflow design, security, agent oversight, automation monitoring, and customer education. It will also need a commercial model that accounts for discovery, implementation, ongoing monitoring, support, and usage charges. Merely listing an AI product in a marketplace does not prove that it will interoperate with a customer’s systems or create a profitable service.
Where the business case can fail
- Selling AI before identifying a specific customer problem or measurable outcome.
- Allowing an agent to take consequential actions without suitable human review.
- Exposing confidential information through prompts or poorly controlled data access.
- Underestimating integration, licensing, usage, monitoring, and support costs.
- Failing to test outputs or define who is responsible when an automated action causes harm.
- Offering an “AI” service that adds little value, or assuming marketplace availability guarantees technical fit.
How do trust and security fit?
Moon rejects treating rapid innovation and responsible deployment as competing goals. He says Pax8 needs both fast experimentation and learning and foundations of trust and security.
Best Value
- 16 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 Ports
- Plug and play, with No configuration required
- Durable metal casing of superior quality and Professional appearance
- Intelligent management via a web user interface and downloadable Utility
- Green technology reduces power consumption
The interview does not specify Pax8 AI security standards, certifications, governance tools, data-residency rules, model-evaluation methods, or compliance controls. Partners should therefore treat trust and security as stated priorities, not evidence that a complete governance framework has been announced. For any customer deployment, the provider and customer still need to establish data permissions, human approval boundaries, testing, monitoring, and responsibility for failures.
How will Moon judge progress after 12 months?
Moon describes two kinds of success measures. For near-term business performance, he cites continued acceleration, compounding growth, partner satisfaction, a strong net promoter score (NPS), revenue growth, and evidence that Pax8 is scaling value. For the longer-term strategy, he wants partners to understand managed intelligence, operationalize it, deliver it to customers, and demonstrate customer benefits using the marketplace as an enabler.
These are forward-looking criteria, not reported results or a formal KPI scorecard. The interview supplies no NPS baseline, revenue target, partner-count target, or quantified definition of customer benefit.
What should Pax8 partners watch for next?
The direction may matter to MSPs, but the practical test is whether Pax8 can turn the strategy into repeatable, secure, and economically viable services. Partners evaluating the opportunity can watch for evidence in several areas:
Recommended Free Tools
- Named AI products or integrations and clear explanations of what is already available.
- Repeatable deployment guidance, training, certification, templates, and support.
- How partners earn margin and how implementation, usage, and ongoing service costs are handled.
- Clear boundaries for customer data, security responsibilities, and agent oversight.
- Measured customer outcomes and examples that distinguish real operational gains from AI marketing.
- Whether partners can choose among vendors and approaches, rather than being tied to a single framework.
Until those details emerge, Moon’s appointment is best read as a signal of strategic emphasis: Pax8 wants to help its ecosystem participate in AI-enabled services. The interview does not show that the transition is already delivering measurable gains for partners or SMBs.
