TrapX Security announced an $18 million financing round on July 1, 2019. Ibex Investors led the round, with five existing investors participating. TrapX said it planned to use the money for international expansion and continued research and development; the announcement documents those plans, not whether they were later completed.
What TrapX announced
TrapX described the transaction as an $18 million financing round; contemporaneous reporting called it a Series C. Ibex Investors led the financing. Existing investors BRM, Opus Capital, Intel Capital, Liberty Technology Venture Capital and Strategic Cyber Ventures also participated, according to TrapX’s July 1, 2019 announcement.
TrapX CEO Moshe Ben-Simon said the funding would support the company’s growth, global expansion and continued research and development. The company described additional countries and industry verticals as targets. These were management’s stated intentions, not confirmation of subsequent expansion.
What TrapX sold
TrapX sold enterprise cybersecurity technology, not a consumer security product. Its DeceptionGrid platform was designed to place decoys and artificial users in an organization’s network so that interaction with them could alert defenders to possible attacker activity.

The 2019 company announcement described virtual artificial users. A contemporaneous VentureBeat report described decoys resembling databases and workstations, deception tokens containing false credentials or scripts, and active traps that generated misleading network traffic. These are descriptions reported at the time, not evidence that every capability was available in every version.
A Cisco partner page describes emulated endpoints, servers, switches, VoIP, SCADA and IoT devices, as well as integration with Cisco pxGrid and Identity Services Engine (ISE) for mitigation workflows. That page reflects its own product and partner context; it does not establish current TrapX ownership, commercial availability, support or compatibility.

How the company positioned deception technology
TrapX presented deception as a threat-detection layer for organizations with regulated operations, distributed networks or legacy infrastructure. Its pitch was that decoys could give defenders a way to detect suspicious interaction in environments where deploying other security tools might be difficult for technical or economic reasons. That characterization came from TrapX and its investor, rather than an independent efficacy assessment.
The 2019 announcement named integrations with Check Point and Cylance. A 2016 BRM release also described an integration with Palo Alto Networks’ platform and WildFire. These dated examples show that integration was part of the product’s positioning; they do not verify that those integrations remain supported today.

TrapX’s announcement reproduced a statement it attributed to Gartner’s March 27, 2019 report, Improve Your Threat Detection Function With Deception Technologies, by Gorka Sadowski and coauthors: “Deception tools force a paradigm shift by approaching threat detection as a ‘right data’ problem, rather than a ‘big data’ problem like SIEM, UEBA, or NTA vendors posit.” The report itself is not independently assessed here, so the quotation should be understood as reproduced in TrapX’s release.

TrapX said it was incorporated in 2012. In a July 2, 2019 report, Calcalist CTech identified founders Moshe Ben-Simon and Yuval Malachi and reported that the company had 60 employees across Tel Aviv and San Mateo. The employee figure is a contemporaneous snapshot, not a current headcount.

What this funding news does—and does not—show
The financing establishes that TrapX announced an $18 million round in 2019 and named its lead and participating investors. It also records how the company planned to deploy the proceeds and how it described its deception-security product at the time.
It does not establish whether the expansion plans were achieved, whether the company remains independent or active, or whether DeceptionGrid and the listed integrations are currently available or supported. The cited announcements and partner descriptions also do not provide comparable pricing, independently measured effectiveness or a controlled comparison with other security vendors.
