As of August 18, 2026, there is no confirmed live price list for those products, so the old discounts should not be treated as deals available today. The products remain useful examples of how to match storage to a need: portable SSDs for active files, HDDs for lower-cost capacity, and platform-specific cards or drives for consoles.
Before buying, check the exact capacity, seller, coupon and return terms on the listing. Amazon prices and stock can change, and the original article also gave conflicting prices for two products. The historic figures below are included only to identify what was reported then—not as current prices or proof of savings.
The nine products and what the old prices mean
The source roundup was published February 26, 2025. Its listed prices were captured then; they have not been verified for August 18, 2026. The “previous” prices below are the article’s comparisons, not independently established recent selling prices. No current Amazon price, seller, coupon, stock status, shipping cost, tax, Prime requirement, or warranty route is verified here.
| Product | Storage type and capacity | Best fit | Historical price reported Feb. 26, 2025 | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung T7 | Portable SSD, 2TB | Everyday active files and transfers | $139; previously $269 | Not a current offer. Samsung’s U.S. page lists up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write for the T7; results depend on the host and interface. Samsung 2TB T7 specifications |
| SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD | Portable SSD, 2TB | Rugged everyday portability | $135; previously $200 | Not a current offer. The original article described up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s read/write and IP65 protection; confirm generation and warranty for the exact listing. |
| Samsung T9 Shield | Portable SSD, 2TB | Large transfers with compatible hardware | $199; previously $299 | Not a current offer. The article claimed up to 2,000 MB/s; reaching that level requires a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 host. |
| WD My Passport | Portable HDD, 5TB | Lower-cost archive capacity | $119; previously $140 | Not a current offer. It is local storage, not cloud storage; a drive alone does not provide an off-site backup. |
| SanDisk Pokémon Snorlax Edition microSD | microSD card, 1TB | Compatible Switch models and other devices with a microSD slot | $99; previously $135 | Not a current offer. Verify device support, capacity limits, and seller authenticity before buying. |
| Seagate Game Drive for Xbox | Portable HDD, 2TB | Xbox game storage and transfers | $79; previously $89 | Not a current offer. USB storage can hold games but does not let you play every Xbox Series X|S-optimized game directly. |
| Seagate Game Drive for PS5/PS4 | Portable HDD, 5TB | PlayStation game archive and PS4 game storage | $129; previously $149 | Not a current offer. PS5 games can be stored on USB extended storage but must be copied to console storage to play. |
| WD Black C50 Expansion Card for Xbox | Proprietary expansion card, 1TB | Playable Xbox Series X|S expansion | $109; previously $157 | Not a current offer. The original article also cited $129 elsewhere, so its historical price is inconsistent. |
| Samsung USB Type-C Flash Drive | USB-C flash drive, 256GB | Small file transfers between compatible devices | $27; previously $35 | Not a current offer. The original article cited up to 400 MB/s and a five-year limited warranty; check the exact current SKU. |
The source article also included conflicting summary prices for the 5TB Seagate Game Drive ($79 in one passage versus $129 in its detailed listing), and a separate historical price for a 16TB Seagate Expansion HDD ($229). Those figures are not current offers and are not used to rank products.

Which storage type suits your use?
Portable SSD: active files and frequent transfers
An SSD is the practical choice for a working photo or video library, large file transfers, or a portable game library when the device supports it. It is compact, quiet, and has no spinning parts, making it more convenient to carry than an HDD. The trade-off is a higher cost per terabyte; sustained writes can also slow after a drive’s cache fills, and performance may fall when the drive gets hot.
The Samsung T7 is a mainstream option. Samsung lists the U.S. T7 family in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities and claims up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write. Those are manufacturer maximums, not a guarantee for every computer, cable, file, or workload. See the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB product pages for the listed capacities.

- Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
- Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
- From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
The SanDisk Extreme line is a ruggedness-oriented alternative for travel or field work, but the model generation matters. The historical article described its 2TB pick as IP65-rated and drop-protected; check the exact current product page for the rating, test conditions, and warranty rather than assuming those claims apply to every product carrying the Extreme name.
Premium SSD: buy speed only if your system can use it
The source article described the 2TB Samsung T9 Shield as reaching up to 2,000 MB/s sequential read/write. That figure is conditional: the host must support USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, and the cable and workload must also be suitable. Many devices with USB-C do not support that data rate. For a computer with a slower port, the premium may buy little practical speed over a less expensive drive.
Samsung’s U.S. June 2026 MSRP sheet is a manufacturer reference, not an Amazon street-price check or a promise of a sale price: Samsung Memory and Storage MSRP, June 2026. Compare an actual checkout price with recent retail prices rather than treating MSRP or a listing’s crossed-out “was” price as proof of a discount.
Rank #3

Portable HDD: more capacity for archives
A 5TB portable HDD can make sense for a photo archive, documents, or a secondary backup when capacity per dollar matters more than speed. It is slower than an SSD, may make audible vibration or spinning noise, and is more vulnerable to shocks while operating. It is less suitable for active editing or rough handling.
WD’s My Passport is local storage. It can be part of a backup plan, but it does not create cloud redundancy. Keep another copy of important files on a separate device or off-site service, and periodically test that files can be restored.

microSD: use only where the device supports it
A microSD card is a compact expansion option for supported Nintendo Switch models, cameras, and handhelds with a card slot. It is not interchangeable with an Xbox expansion card, and a card suitable for one device may not meet another’s speed or capacity requirements. Check the device maker’s limits before choosing a 1TB card. Because counterfeit high-capacity cards are a marketplace risk, buy from a reputable seller and test the card after purchase.

Console USB drives and expansion cards are not the same
The Seagate Xbox and PlayStation Game Drives in the historical list are USB hard drives. They can provide storage for games and support transfers, but console rules determine whether a game can run directly from them.
- Xbox Series X|S: A USB drive can store compatible games, but current-generation optimized titles generally need to run from the console’s internal storage or an officially compatible expansion card. The WD Black C50 is designed for that expansion-card role; it is proprietary and not a general-purpose external drive.
- PS5: USB extended storage can store PS5 games, but those games must be copied back to console storage to play. PS4 games can be played from compatible USB extended storage. Confirm current console formatting and compatibility requirements before connecting a drive, since formatting can erase its contents.
Officially licensed branding does not erase these functional limits. Choose based on whether you want an archive, faster transfers, or games playable directly from expanded console storage.
USB-C flash drive: convenient, not automatically fast
A USB-C flash drive is useful for small transfers among compatible phones, tablets, and computers. It is less suitable than a portable SSD for sustained large writes or as the only place to keep important files. USB-C describes the connector shape, not the speed; a USB-C drive may use a slower data interface. Phone use also depends on operating-system support, power, and file-system compatibility.

How to judge a storage deal before checkout
Confirm the exact listing and effective price
- Match the model number and capacity. A listing may combine several capacities under one page, with a different price for each.
- Check who sells and ships the item, whether a coupon must be clipped, and whether Prime or another membership is required.
- Review stock, shipping, taxes, return window, and the warranty path for the exact SKU and region.
- Do not treat a “was” price or percentage discount as proof of a genuine recent saving. Compare the checkout price with the product’s normal street price.
- Be skeptical of implausibly cheap high-capacity flash drives or memory cards. Review scores can combine feedback for different variants, so they are not a substitute for checking the seller and exact model.
Check the whole connection, not just the drive
USB-C is a connector, not a performance rating. A drive advertised at 2,000 MB/s cannot achieve that speed through a slower port, and a cable that does not support the needed link can bottleneck it. USB 3.2 Gen 2 is commonly associated with a 10Gbps link, but protocol overhead means usable transfer throughput is lower than the headline link rate.
Real transfers also depend on file sizes, the source drive, available free space, heat, cache behavior, and software or encryption overhead. Many small files usually move more slowly than one large sequential file. When buying a fast SSD, check the computer’s port specifications and use the cable supplied or one rated for the required data rate.
Check device power and file-system support
Some phones may not provide enough power for a portable HDD. Phones and tablets may also require a supported file system such as exFAT or FAT32, depending on the device and operating system. Before reformatting a drive for a console or mobile device, copy off any files you need: formatting can erase existing data.
Use storage as part of a backup, not as the whole plan
SSDs, HDDs, and flash drives can all fail. A portable drive is not a backup if it holds the only copy of a file. For important data, keep another copy on separate storage and consider an off-site or cloud copy. Restore a sample of files periodically to confirm the backup actually works.
What is still relevant in 2026?
Current 2026 coverage continues to discuss products such as the Samsung T7, SanDisk Extreme, and WD My Passport as portable-storage options, but it does not verify the nine Amazon prices from February 2025. TechRadar’s portable SSD coverage, published August 14, 2026, provides current category context, not proof that a particular Amazon listing is discounted.
The T7 remains an active product family on Samsung’s U.S. site, with 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB pages. That confirms product availability from Samsung, not Amazon inventory or a specific retailer price. The historical deals are therefore best used as a shortlist of storage types and use cases—not as a buy-now price guide.
