Stellantis N.V. owns Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler. Stellantis is a publicly traded Dutch automaker, so none of those brands is owned outright by the Agnelli family, the Peugeot family, the French government, or Fiat.
The more precise answer is that Exor N.V.—the investment company controlled by descendants of Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli—is Stellantis’ largest shareholder and its most influential shareholder. Peugeot-family interests and French public-investment funds are also significant owners, while the rest of the company is held by public investors.
Who owns Stellantis?
Stellantis N.V. is the parent company behind Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, DS Automobiles, Lancia, and Abarth. It also owns the mobility businesses Free2move and Leasys.
Because Stellantis is publicly traded, its ownership is divided among institutional investors, strategic shareholders, public investment entities, and other shareholders. Its shares trade under these symbols:

The latest official ownership figures available from Stellantis are dated February 25, 2026.

Exor, EPF, and BPI together owned 29.84% of Stellantis’ common shares, but controlled 45.95% of its voting power. The difference exists because Stellantis gives qualifying long-term shareholders additional voting rights.
Exor is Stellantis’ largest shareholder
Exor N.V. is the investment company controlled by the descendants of Giovanni Agnelli, who founded Fiat. Exor held 449,410,092 Stellantis common shares as of February 25, 2026, equal to 15.48% of the common stock and 23.84% of the voting power.
John Elkann, the leading representative of the Agnelli family, is Stellantis’ chairman and executive director. Exor also has the right to nominate two Stellantis directors while it maintains the required ownership level.
That gives Exor substantial influence over the company. However, influence is not the same as outright ownership. Exor does not own 100% of Stellantis, and the Agnelli family does not directly own all of the Jeep, Ram, or Chrysler business.
Does Peugeot own Stellantis?
No. The Peugeot family is a major Stellantis shareholder, but it is not the company’s sole owner.

Établissements Peugeot Frères holds its interest through Peugeot Invest and its subsidiary Peugeot 1810. It owned 224,228,121 Stellantis common shares, representing 7.72% of the common shares and 11.89% of the voting power.
Robert Peugeot is Stellantis’ vice chairman and a non-executive director. EPF and Peugeot Invest have the right to nominate one director while they meet the applicable ownership threshold.

Does the French government own Stellantis?
France does not own Stellantis outright. The French state has an important minority interest through Bpifrance Participations S.A., commonly called BPI.
BPI held 192,703,907 common shares as of February 25, 2026. That represented 6.64% of Stellantis’ common shares and 10.22% of its voting power. Stellantis identifies BPI as a joint venture connected to EPIC Bpifrance and Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations. Caisse des Dépôts also held an additional interest equivalent to 0.28% of the common shares.
Bpifrance describes itself as France’s sovereign wealth fund and says it is owned by the French state and Groupe Caisse des Dépôts. This gives French public investment interests a strategic position, but it does not amount to majority ownership or government control of every Stellantis decision.

Why voting power is higher than share ownership
Stellantis uses a loyalty-voting structure. Qualifying shareholders that hold their common shares for the required period can receive one Class A special voting share for each qualifying common share.
A special voting share provides an additional vote but generally has no meaningful economic rights beyond a minimum dividend entitlement. As a result, a shareholder can control more votes than its percentage of the company’s economic value.
For example:
- Exor owns 15.48% of the common shares but has 23.84% of the voting power.
- EPF owns 7.72% of the common shares but has 11.89% of the voting power.
- BPI owns 6.64% of the common shares but has 10.22% of the voting power.
Stellantis reported 2,903,716,295 common shares and 866,522,224 Class A special voting shares as of February 25, 2026. It reported no Class B special voting shares.
For an investor, this distinction matters. Economic ownership affects a shareholder’s claim on dividends and company value, while voting ownership affects its influence over elections, major transactions, and other shareholder decisions.

How Fiat Chrysler became Stellantis
Stellantis was formed through the combination of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, or FCA, and PSA Group.
- FCA acquired the principal operating assets of the former Chrysler during the 2009 restructuring.
- Fiat increased its interest in FCA US to 100% between 2009 and 2014.
- PSA acquired Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors in August 2017.
- PSA merged into FCA on January 16, 2021.
- The combined company was renamed Stellantis N.V. on January 17, 2021.
The current group therefore inherited FCA’s brands—including Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Maserati—and PSA’s brands, including Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, and Vauxhall.

Who actually controls Stellantis?
The fairest description is that Stellantis is a publicly traded company with Exor as its largest and most influential shareholder. Exor’s enhanced voting rights, board-nomination rights, and John Elkann’s position as chairman give the Agnelli family’s investment company disproportionate influence relative to its economic stake.
EPF and BPI also have enhanced voting rights and board-nomination rights while they satisfy the relevant ownership conditions. The company is therefore shaped by a combination of strategic shareholders and public investors rather than being controlled outright by one owner.
At Stellantis’ April 14, 2026 annual meeting, shareholders re-elected John Elkann as chairman and Robert Peugeot as vice chairman. That result confirmed the continuing influence of both the Exor and Peugeot-family interests.
