The distinction matters: a Power BI dashboard is a one-page collection of tiles, while a report can contain slicers, drillthrough pages, cross-filtering, bookmarks, and interactive charts. Most examples described as “interactive dashboards” are technically report pages or report-based solutions.
The examples below cover sales, finance, investing, operations, marketing, HR, healthcare, and sports. They are useful as design references, but they are not all equally reproducible: some are live reports, some are Community showcase projects, some are screenshots, and others depend on a commercial app or historical data.
20 interactive Power BI dashboard and report examples
Use the labels to judge what you can actually test or download. A screenshot demonstrates layout only; it does not prove that filters or drillthrough work.

Best official Power BI samples to reproduce
If the goal is to learn Power BI rather than simply collect visual ideas, Microsoft’s sample reports are a stronger starting point than an image gallery. The official set includes:

#1 Best Overall
- Financial sample
- Sales and marketing sample
- Human resources sample
- Artificial intelligence sample
- Store sales sample
- Customer profitability sample
- Retail analysis sample
- Competitive marketing analysis sample
- Regional sales sample
- Procurement sample
In the Power BI service, go to app.powerbi.com, select Learn in the left pane, find Sample reports, use the right arrow to browse, and select a sample. Power BI imports a copy into the current workspace, including a report and semantic model and, where applicable, a dashboard. Alternatively, Power BI Desktop users can download and open a .pbix sample; Desktop is free and does not require a Power BI license.
What makes these examples interactive?
Slicers and filters
A slicer lets a reader narrow a report by date, region, department, product, campaign, or another field. By default, a slicer filters the other visuals on the page, including other slicers. To stop it affecting a particular visual, select the slicer, choose Format > Edit interactions, and select None above the visual.
Cross-filtering and cross-highlighting
Selecting a bar, map location, or data point can change the rest of the page. In Power BI Desktop, select a visual, choose Format > Edit interactions, and set each affected visual to Filter, Highlight, or None. In the Power BI service, open the report in Editing view, select Visual interactions, turn on Edit interactions, and choose the relevant icon.
Rank #2
Do not assume every chart supports every behavior. Line charts, scatter charts, and maps support cross-filtering but cannot be cross-highlighted in the same way as some categorical charts. Interaction settings can also be changed by the report author.
Page navigation and bookmarks
Multi-page reports commonly use a navigation bar. In Desktop, choose Insert > Buttons > Navigator > Page navigator. It automatically follows the report-page names and order. When testing in Editing view, hold Ctrl while selecting a navigator button.
Bookmarks can switch between views, such as “Actual,” “Budget,” and “Forecast,” or show and hide panels. Create the bookmarks, then choose Insert > Buttons > Navigator > Bookmark navigator. For a custom button, select Insert > Buttons > Blank, turn Action on in the Format button pane, choose Bookmark under Type, and select the destination bookmark.

How to judge an example before copying it
- Test the interaction. Click a chart category and change a slicer. If nothing responds, you may be looking at a screenshot or a static embed.
- Check the data date. A stock example with February 2024 figures or an F1 example ending in 2021 is historical, regardless of how modern the design looks.
- Look for the source file. A downloadable
.pbixfile or official sample is more reproducible than a PNG, theme file, or gallery post. - Inspect the measures. “Profit,” “ROI,” “retention,” and “average delay” can be calculated in different ways. Recreate the measure definitions before comparing results.
- Check refresh behavior. An interactive visual can still use cached, manually refreshed, or static data. Interactivity does not mean real-time data.
- Review privacy and permissions. Avoid uploading customer, employee, financial, or personal data to a public embed.
How to share a Power BI example publicly
For an intentionally public demonstration, the current Power BI path is File > Embed report > Publish to web (public). This does not provide secure sharing: viewers need no authentication, anyone on the Internet may access the report, and the published content can expose underlying detail-level data rather than only the totals visible in the charts. An administrator can also disable or restrict the feature.
Never use Publish to web for confidential, proprietary, personal, customer, employee, or otherwise restricted data. For authenticated internal viewers, use File > Embed report > Website or portal. Secure embedding preserves permissions, row-level security, and object-level security, although viewers still need to authenticate.
A note about Power BI dashboards versus reports
A true Power BI dashboard is a single-page canvas that can combine tiles from multiple reports or semantic models. It is not generally filtered and sliced like a report page. Selecting a dashboard tile normally opens the report page containing the original visual.
Rank #4
That is why “interactive Power BI dashboard” is commonly used as shorthand for an interactive report. For accurate documentation, call a multi-page, filterable design a Power BI report, and reserve dashboard for the tile-based Power BI service experience.
Also be cautious with older examples that promote Power BI Q&A as a long-term natural-language feature. Microsoft says Q&A experiences are going away in December 2026 and recommends Copilot for Power BI instead.

Are all 20 examples live Power BI dashboards?
No. The collection includes interactive reports, Fabric Community showcase posts, screenshots or design references, a commercial/app-based mobile analytics solution, and historical-data demonstrations. A screenshot alone does not prove interactivity.

What is the difference between a Power BI dashboard and a report?
A dashboard is a single-page collection of tiles that can combine content from multiple reports or semantic models. A report can have multiple pages and supports slicers, cross-filtering, drillthrough, bookmarks, and other interactive analysis.
Can I share a Power BI report publicly?
Yes, through File > Embed report > Publish to web (public), but it is unauthenticated and may expose underlying data. Use it only for information that is safe for anyone on the Internet to access. For private audiences, use secure embedding or normal workspace sharing.
Which Power BI example is best for learning?
Microsoft’s official sample reports are the most reliable starting point because they are designed for reproduction and include samples such as Financial, Sales and marketing, Human resources, Retail analysis, and Procurement.
The Bottom Line
These 20 examples are best treated as a library of report patterns rather than proof that 20 live dashboards are available. For finance work, start with the Financial, Budget Analysis, Sales, Customer Profitability, and Procurement patterns. Reproduce them with an official .pbix sample where possible, verify the measure definitions and refresh date, and never use Publish to web for sensitive data.
