Greenbot made its Agritechnica debut in November 2015 as an autonomous implement carrier developed by Dutch Power Company. It was designed to repeat programmed work such as mowing and orchard spraying, not to operate without human setup or oversight. Its launch-era specifications and price are historical; current inventory or pricing has not been verified.
What Greenbot was—and what debuted
Greenbot was presented as an unmanned agricultural machine that could carry implements and perform repetitive jobs without a driver continuously seated at the controls. The Agritechnica 2015 model followed a concept shown at Agrotechniek Holland in 2014. Dutch Power Company companies involved included Probotiq, responsible for software and electronics; Conver, which manufactured the machine; and Precision Makers, which handled distribution and service. Successful Farming’s 2015 report framed it as a driverless machine; that period positioning should not be read as proof it was literally the first autonomous agricultural machine ever built. Dutch machinery coverage identifies the Agritechnica machine as the final production model following the earlier concept.
What work it was intended to do
The company’s rationale was to automate repetitive work and reduce reliance on scarce labor. The 2015 report said Dutch Power Company had moved from golf-course mowing into agriculture, with orchard spraying among its initial targets. Mowing, seeding, fertilizing and light tillage were also described as potential applications. These were intended use cases, not independently demonstrated labor savings or a cost-benefit study. Predictable routes in orchards, golf courses, verges and similar environments were a more natural fit than fields needing frequent judgment.
How Greenbot navigated and ran a task
RTK positioning and route setup
Greenbot used RTK-corrected GPS for precise positioning. In teach-and-playback mode, an operator drove a route and recorded the task; the machine could then repeat the programmed movement and, depending on setup, machine-control instructions. For less regular areas, the operator could drive the perimeter and Greenbot would plan and fill in a work pattern. A recorded route did not itself establish that the route was appropriate or safe under later conditions.

Starting and resuming work
Programs could be started remotely after setup. According to Precision Makers’ claims reported in 2015, RTK initialization required at least five satellites and the machine could continue with four once initialized. If positioning signal was lost, Greenbot stopped; if it was not restored within five minutes, the user received a text message. After the signal returned, it could resume where it had stopped. These are product claims reported at the time, not a general description of how current autonomous machines behave.

Safety systems—and their limits
The reported protection system combined radar, ultrasonic sensors and a physical bumper. Radar detection reportedly reduced speed when an obstacle was detected; ultrasonic detection triggered a stop. The machine could text the operator with alerts, including obstacle notifications, engine overheating and task completion. Mechaman reported radar detection up to about 15 meters ahead and bumper sensors detecting objects within about 1 meter; it also said the implement’s safety system had to be connected before the machine could operate that implement. These descriptions are historical product claims, not evidence that the sensors could detect every hazard or make unsupervised operation safe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Positioning failure: The reported response to lost RTK signal was to stop, not improvise a route.
- Changing conditions: People, animals, moved fences, crop growth, wet ground or temporary obstacles can make a previously recorded route unsuitable.
- Implement fit: Hitch ratings do not prove that every implement is compatible or safe to operate autonomously.
- Human responsibility: The operator still had to set up the task, monitor alerts and manage the worksite. Autonomy did not transfer legal or operational responsibility to the machine.
Agritechnica’s broader discussion of autonomous systems highlights virtual boundaries, emergency stops, human oversight and unresolved questions of safety approval and legal responsibility as issues beyond obstacle sensors alone. Agritechnica’s overview is useful context, not a retrospective certification of Greenbot.
What the X-pert retrofit kits offered—and why sales stopped
Precision Makers also offered X-pert conversion kits to automate selected existing tractors and mowers. The 2015 report mentioned Fendt tractors; later reporting described use with Fendt, John Deere and self-propelled mowers. A retrofit could let a farm automate a machine it already owned rather than buy a dedicated carrier. But the approach depended on the base machine’s electronics and software remaining compatible.

Precision Makers reportedly stopped selling X-pert kits in 2018 because manufacturers’ software and electronic changes required repeated adaptation and could leave converted machines idle during updates. The company continued with Greenbot at that time. Mechaman’s 2018 report captures a key deployment trade-off: retrofit can reduce the need to buy a dedicated platform, while increasing integration and support risk. The company also noted that remote monitoring could not remove the need for on-site mechanics.
What evidence existed of commercial use?
In the 2015 account, a company representative said two agricultural prototypes had been built and were being tested, five additional machines had been built, and one had been sold in the Netherlands for mowing. The same account cited about 40 related autonomous mowing machines operating in the Netherlands from the company’s earlier golf-course work. These were company-reported figures, not independently audited deployment totals. They show early activity, but not broad adoption or proven economics.

What happened to Greenbot after its debut?
The 2018 reporting indicates that Greenbot remained in Precision Makers’ program when X-pert kit sales ended, but later product coverage describes changes in the wider Dutch Power Company lineup and less emphasis on the CR18. The CR12, CR18, CR10 and later DPC-branded machines should not be treated as interchangeable versions of one unchanged product. Later trade coverage discusses this evolution.

Greenbot’s historical importance is its combination of autonomous navigation, implement capacity and commercial positioning. It should not be credited with every capability associated with current autonomous systems. Agritechnica’s 2025 material describes systems using combinations of GPS, cameras, lidar, radar, AI, machine learning and virtual boundaries, while noting continuing challenges around approval, responsibility, road transport, robustness and economics. See the fair’s pages on autonomous systems and semi-autonomous fieldwork.
Fendt’s Xaver GT, shown at Agritechnica 2025, illustrates a newer purpose-built system carrier. Fendt lists a serial-hybrid drive with a diesel engine and 9-kWh battery, four individually steerable and electrically driven wheels, camera and lidar systems, AI-based row recognition, tactile safety systems, a 2-ton inter-axle power lift, adjustable track width from 1.5 to 2.25 meters, and 50 cm ground clearance. Fendt describes it as a concept study, not a conventional retail product listing. Fendt’s Agritechnica page gives the stated details.

Who Greenbot was suited to—and the business questions it raised
Greenbot made the most sense where a farm or land manager had repeatable routes, suitable implements, RTK access and local technical support. Its potential value was less operator involvement on recurring work, not a guarantee of higher throughput or lower total cost. A six-figure 2015 starting price made utilization and avoided labor costs central to the business case, but no independent cost-benefit study is established.
- Likely better fit: Orchards, golf courses, verges and other controlled environments with predictable geometry and repeat work.
- Likely poorer fit: Irregular fields needing frequent human decisions, dynamic sites with people or animals, public-road operations, large high-throughput jobs, or farms without RTK and service support.
- Economic test: Compare annual use, labor actually displaced, implement productivity, maintenance, training, safety procedures and support availability—not just the theoretical ability to run for long periods.
- Deployment test: Confirm the exact machine variant, implement compatibility, software support, RTK arrangements, parts and service, and local rules before considering a used or legacy unit.
The wider lesson from the X-pert kits is that autonomous agriculture is not only a navigation problem. Electronics integration, software maintenance, dealer support, safe worksite design, liability and utilization all affect whether a technically capable machine can become a dependable business tool.
