This was a U.S. Google Store promotion that ran from September 16 through September 30, 2024—not a current deal. The advertised “$760 off” was up to $760 in trade-in credit after Google received and inspected an eligible old phone, not an instant reduction at checkout. The maximum cited value was for a Google Pixel Fold traded toward a Pixel 9 Pro-series phone.
What the Pixel 9 Pro birthday deal included
For Google’s 26th birthday, the U.S. Google Store repeated unusually high trade-in values previously offered during Pixel 9 preorders. The offer applied when buying a Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, or Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The maximum advertised trade-in value was $760, but the amount depended on the old phone’s model, year, configuration, and condition. 9to5Google’s September 16, 2024 coverage reported the values below.
Representative trade-in values in the 2024 U.S. promotion
These were cited maximum estimates, not guaranteed payouts. Google’s inspection could change the final value.
| Trade-in device | Representative maximum value |
|---|---|
| Google Pixel Fold | $760 |
| Google Pixel 8 Pro | $699 |
| Google Pixel 7 Pro | $540 |
| Google Pixel 8 | $490 |
| Google Pixel 6 Pro | $450 |
| Google Pixel 6 | $300 |
| Google Pixel 7a | $300 |
| Google Pixel 5 | $245 |
| Google Pixel 6a | $225 |
| Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max | $635 |
| Apple iPhone 15 Pro | $600 |
| Apple iPhone 15 | $480 |
| Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra | $480 |
| Samsung Galaxy S24 | $400 |
Storage tier, configuration, age, and condition mattered; the same model did not automatically qualify for the table’s maximum. The quoted values were specific to the U.S. promotion and should not be assumed to apply in another country.

How the trade-in credit was paid
The headline amount was not taken off the Pixel’s price at checkout. Buyers paid for the new phone first, then sent the old phone using Google’s trade-in process. After receiving and inspecting it, Google generally refunded the approved amount to the original payment method. If that method could not be refunded, or if the new phone had already been returned, the amount could instead be issued as Google Store credit. Droid Life’s report described the delayed-credit process.
That timing matters for budgeting: buyers needed to cover the purchase upfront and wait for the trade-in assessment before receiving the credit.

Inspection, shipping, and other terms
The quoted promotion terms said the trade-in phone had to reach Google within 30 days of initiating the trade-in process. The final amount was subject to inspection and could be reduced if the device did not match the submitted description, including its model or condition. The reproduced terms also noted restrictions involving waitlist, rain-check, or out-of-stock items and combining the promotion with other offers.
For a trade-in, practical steps that can help protect you include photographing the phone’s condition, backing up its data, removing accounts, factory-resetting it, and keeping shipping and tracking records. These are prudent precautions, not a substitute for checking the applicable trade-in instructions.

Other offers in Google’s birthday campaign
These were separate promotions with different eligibility rules; they were not extra reductions automatically included with the Pixel 9 Pro trade-in offer.
- Pixel 8a: A reported $100 price reduction brought it to $399.
- Birthday keychain: A limited-edition keychain was offered with qualifying purchases of Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3, or Pixel Buds Pro 2. It had to be added to the cart, was subject to availability, and the offer ended September 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, or earlier if supplies ran out.
- Pixel Buds Pro 2: The campaign included $30 in Google Store credit with a qualifying purchase.
- Other products: The broader sale also included discounts on select Fitbit products and a Pixel Watch 3 promotion involving eligible smartwatch trade-ins; the exact terms differed from the Pixel phone offer.

When the trade-in offer made financial sense
The promotion was most compelling for someone with a phone near the top of Google’s value list—especially a Pixel Fold or Pixel 8 Pro—who planned to buy directly from Google Store and could manage the upfront payment and delayed reimbursement.
It was less attractive if an immediate checkout discount was essential, the trade-in phone’s condition was uncertain, or a private sale or carrier offer might yield more. A useful comparison is the Pixel’s purchase price minus Google’s confirmed trade-in value, weighed against what you could net by selling the old phone after fees and shipping. The $760 headline alone did not establish that Google’s offer was the best return for every owner.

Is the $760 Google birthday offer available now?
No. The cited U.S. trade-in promotion ended September 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The keychain offer ended earlier, on September 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT, subject to supplies. As of August 18, 2026, these are expired promotions; the available coverage does not establish that Google has repeated the same deal. Check the Google Store for any current offer rather than relying on the 2024 figures.
