Auger hired a longtime J&J supply-chain and AI executive; WTIA added a policy leader

Auger’s hire of longtime J&J supply-chain and AI executive Yuqing Sun and WTIA’s appointment of Amy Harris reflected two different strategies: building operational technology leadership and expanding advocacy capacity.

Bellevue startup Auger hired Yuqing Sun as chief data and AI enablement officer, and the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) named Amy Harris director of public policy and government relations. GeekWire reported the two separate appointments on November 14, 2025. Auger’s current public leadership page does not list Sun, and the available sources do not confirm whether Harris still holds her WTIA role.

Why the two hires drew attention

The appointments involved different organizations and goals. Auger was building a leadership team for its supply-chain software business; WTIA was adding capacity for its advocacy work. Both moves point to a wider Pacific Northwest technology-sector challenge: companies and industry groups need people who can connect technical or commercial priorities with complex operations and policy environments.

The hires are evidence of investment in executive capability, not proof of customer adoption, financial performance, or policy results. The original announcement did not describe either person’s specific first priorities or measurable outcomes.

What Yuqing Sun brought to Auger

A supply-chain and data-science background

GeekWire reported that Sun joined Auger from Johnson & Johnson after nearly 20 years in supply-chain, analytics, and data-science roles. Her reported title was chief data and AI enablement officer—not chief technology officer or simply chief AI officer. The announcement did not specify her reporting line, start date, or exact remit. GeekWire’s November 2025 report attributed to Auger CEO Dave Clark the claim that Sun had built and scaled more than 30 AI-driven products at Johnson & Johnson, involving areas such as optimization, simulation, the Internet of Things, machine learning, and computer vision. That is Clark’s description of her work, not an independently verified count or assessment of those products.

Why that experience could matter

Supply-chain software has to do more than generate forecasts. It must draw on data spread across business systems, account for real-world operating constraints, help people evaluate trade-offs, and connect recommendations to execution. AI used in that setting also depends on data quality, governance, and users’ confidence in how recommendations are made.

A leader who has worked across supply-chain operations, analytics, and data science at a large multinational company could help a startup address those organizational and technical demands. That is a plausible strategic rationale for Sun’s appointment, not evidence that she delivered a particular result at Auger.

Auger’s product and hiring strategy

Auger, headquartered in Bellevue, describes its product as an “autonomous operating system” for supply-chain operations. The company says it connects fragmented enterprise systems and uses AI to support or execute operational decisions. Those terms describe Auger’s positioning; the available sources do not independently establish its performance against existing transportation-management, warehouse-management, or supply-chain-planning products. Auger’s company and team page gives its current description of the business.

Founder and CEO Dave Clark’s background helps explain the company’s emphasis on operations. Davis Wright Tremaine described him as a 23-year Amazon veteran who had served as Amazon’s chief supply-chain officer and CEO of worldwide consumer before later becoming CEO of Flexport. The firm also described Auger’s October 2024 launch as accompanied by $100 million in investment from Oak HC/FT. GeekWire called the financing a Series A; “$100 million launch financing” avoids treating those descriptions as interchangeable. Davis Wright Tremaine’s account of Auger’s launch provides the financing and Clark background.

Sun’s appointment followed Auger’s October 2, 2025 announcement of Justine Hastings as chief AI economist. Auger said Hastings had led a science organization of more than 200 people at Amazon and would work on econometric, forecasting, and causal-AI models for supply-chain decisions. Together, the appointments suggest a leadership design spanning operational data, AI, and economics—not simply a software engineering team. Auger’s announcement about Hastings is the source for her role and the company’s description of her work.

What Amy Harris’s WTIA appointment involved

Advocacy experience and congressional work

WTIA named Harris director of public policy and government relations. GeekWire reported that she had spent nine years as a principal at Red Strategies, which it described as a fundraising-consulting and event-planning firm serving right-of-center candidates and organizations. Harris had also worked as an executive assistant for two members of Congress; the report did not identify them.

WTIA CEO Randa Minkarah cited Harris’s experience in bipartisan coalition-building, strategic advocacy, and navigating complex political environments as reasons for the hire. That is Minkarah’s rationale, not an independent assessment of Harris’s record. Her previous employer alone does not establish WTIA’s policy positions or indicate a partisan shift.

What the role says—and does not say—about WTIA’s agenda

WTIA is a Washington technology-industry association. Public-policy and government-relations work can involve issues relevant to technology businesses at both state and federal levels, including AI, privacy, workforce, cybersecurity, taxes, and public procurement. Those are areas of potential relevance to the association’s membership, not a verified list of Harris’s assignments or WTIA’s specific priorities for her role.

The title covers both public policy and government relations, but the appointment announcement did not say whether Harris would focus principally on Washington-state policy, federal matters, or both. Nor did it detail her reporting structure or the meaning of any particular consortium arrangement. Minkarah’s emphasis on coalition-building indicates the value WTIA placed on advocacy across political lines; it does not identify specific campaigns.

What changed after the 2025 announcement

Auger’s current public team page names Dave Clark, Leigh Anne Clark, Sanjay Dash, Gopi Prashanth, Russell Allgor, Justine Hastings, AJ Jiambalvo, Alex Ceballos, Caitlin Dietrich, Jessica Amato, Kim Peevy, and James Gannon. It does not list Sun. That omission means her current status cannot be confirmed from the page; it does not by itself establish that she left, changed roles, or that the page is complete. The current Auger team listing is the available public reference.

The available sources also do not provide a current WTIA staff listing or later announcement confirming Harris’s status. The accurate description is therefore that she was appointed in the November 2025 report, not that she currently holds the position.

There is later company-reported activity relevant to Auger’s business, but it should not be confused with evidence that Sun’s hire caused commercial results. In February 2026, Auger announced a partnership or deployment involving Meta Reality Labs, describing its software as an orchestration layer above ERP, warehouse-management, and transportation-management systems. In March 2026, Auger said its application was available through Microsoft Fabric and described functions including inventory rebalancing and scenario evaluation. These announcements document Auger’s claims about its product and deployments; they do not provide independent performance benchmarks or establish a causal link to the 2025 personnel move. How to read the significance of the moves

For Auger, the combination of a large launch financing and senior hires in data, AI, and economics points to an effort to build the capabilities required for ambitious supply-chain automation. For WTIA, Harris’s appointment points to an effort to strengthen policy and government-relations capacity, with coalition-building presented as a priority. Neither conclusion should be stretched into a claim of product-market fit, proven AI outcomes, or a particular legislative victory.

The central open questions are practical: what responsibilities the executives ultimately held, whether those roles changed, and what measurable results followed. The November 2025 announcement supplies useful evidence about the organizations’ intended capabilities at that moment, but not answers to those later questions.
