OnePlus introduced an 8GB RAM and 256GB storage version of the OnePlus 12R in India in March 2024 for ₹42,999. It cost ₹3,000 more than the 8GB + 128GB model and ₹3,000 less than the 16GB + 256GB model, giving buyers more storage without paying for the higher-RAM configuration. The launch offers discussed at the time were limited-period incentives, not confirmed current discounts.
What launched, and what did it cost?
The March 2024 announcement added a configuration to the existing OnePlus 12R range; it was not a new-generation phone or a hardware redesign. Contemporary coverage reported the 8GB + 256GB model at ₹42,999. OnePlus programme terms also identify an Indian 8GB + 256GB SKU at that price. Gizmochina’s launch report and OnePlus Easy Upgrade terms support the configuration and price.
| India configuration | Launch price | Price difference |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB RAM + 128GB storage | ₹39,999 | Baseline |
| 8GB RAM + 256GB storage | ₹42,999 | ₹3,000 more than 8GB + 128GB |
| 16GB RAM + 256GB storage | ₹45,999 | ₹3,000 more than 8GB + 256GB |
| 16GB RAM + 256GB Genshin Impact Edition | ₹49,999 | ₹7,000 more than 8GB + 256GB |
These are reported India launch prices, not confirmation of today’s sale price or stock. OnePlus’s detailed specifications page lists the 8GB + 128GB and 16GB + 256GB configurations, but not 8GB + 256GB; the Easy Upgrade terms identify that SKU separately. The OnePlus product page shows the 12R family and a starting-price signal, but the indexed material does not establish whether the 8GB + 256GB variant can currently be purchased. Check the live listing before relying on its price or availability.
What were the launch offers?
Contemporary coverage reported the following incentives around the variant’s launch. They were subject to their own eligibility rules and dates, and should not be treated as offers available now.

- Bank discount: ₹1,000 instant discount on eligible ICICI Bank credit-card or OneCard transactions, according to the launch offer coverage. OnePlus’s OneCard offer terms are period-specific; check current payment terms rather than assuming the promotion remains active.
- Exchange: Up to ₹3,000 exchange bonus was reported, with an additional ₹1,000 for eligible customers upgrading from a OnePlus Nord phone. The bonus was conditional; it was not the full value of the old phone, nor did every Nord qualify.
- Earbuds: OnePlus Buds Z2 were reported as a limited-period free bundle, with a stated value of ₹4,999. That does not mean the earbuds were permanently included with the phone.
- No-cost EMI: Up to nine months through participating banks was reported at launch. Availability depended on the participating payment provider and offer terms.
- Jio benefits: The reported offer was ₹150 per month for 15 months, or ₹2,250 in total, subject to plan and customer eligibility. This was a plan-linked benefit, not an upfront reduction in the handset price.
The separate OnePlus Easy Upgrade programme was a financing and future-value arrangement. It should not be added to a simple discount calculation: participants had to meet programme conditions, and the arrangement was not equivalent to paying a lower outright price.
How to interpret the advertised value
Adding the reported ₹1,000 bank discount, up to ₹3,000 standard exchange bonus, eligible ₹1,000 Nord bonus and ₹2,250 Jio benefit gives a potential combined value of up to ₹7,250 before assigning a value to the earbuds. Including the reported ₹4,999 Buds Z2 value brings that theoretical total to ₹12,249. This is not a guaranteed saving or a universal checkout price: the components had different eligibility rules, and the sources do not establish that every benefit could be combined in one purchase.

Is 8GB + 256GB the right configuration?
The middle configuration trades RAM for storage relative to the 16GB + 256GB model. Those resources address different needs: storage holds apps and files, while RAM supports active tasks and multitasking. More RAM does not automatically make everyday use twice as fast, and the available sources do not provide device-specific testing that quantifies its benefit.
Choose 8GB + 256GB if storage is the concern
At launch, this was the practical middle choice for someone who found 128GB restrictive but did not need to pay for 16GB RAM. It is the more suitable fit for people who keep several large games, offline video, photos or messaging media on the phone, or who want extra local capacity over a longer ownership period.

Choose 8GB + 128GB if keeping the price down matters most
The base configuration makes more sense for lighter app and photography use, frequent phone replacers, or people who rely on cloud storage and are unlikely to fill 128GB.
Choose 16GB + 256GB if you value more RAM
The 16GB model costs ₹3,000 more than the 8GB + 256GB version at the reported launch prices. It suits buyers who want the highest-RAM configuration or regularly keep many apps active, but the additional RAM is not extra storage.

Check these points before buying now
- Confirm the exact SKU and live price. The indexed OnePlus specs page omits the 8GB + 256GB option even though Easy Upgrade terms identify it. A historical price is not proof of current stock. Check whether the variant is selectable on the OnePlus product page or retailer listing before placing an order.
- Do not count expired promotions as savings. The bank, exchange, Nord, Buds Z2, EMI and Jio offers above were reported as launch-period incentives. Use only current checkout terms to assess a present purchase.
- Check exchange eligibility and condition carefully. OnePlus says exchange availability depends on PIN code, phone model, condition and IMEI. The declared details can be checked at inspection; a mismatch or failed unlock/IMEI checks can cancel the transaction. Read the OnePlus exchange process and distinguish the exchange bonus from the assessed value of your old phone.
- Review financing terms separately. Easy Upgrade is not a straight discount. Confirm repayment, eligibility, assured-value conditions and future handover requirements in the programme terms before enrolling.
