The early shipment data is promising, but the company remains outside the global top five and has not yet shown that its growth will translate into lasting brand loyalty, profitable premium sales, or consistent customer support worldwide.
What HONOR’s comeback numbers do—and don’t—show
IDC reported that HONOR’s smartphone shipments grew 24.9% year over year in Q1 2026, the fastest rate among the global top 10 vendors. Global smartphone shipments fell 2.9% over the same period, so HONOR’s growth was not simply a reflection of a rising market. But shipment growth is not the same as a specific global market-share percentage, and IDC still placed HONOR outside the top five. Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo occupied those positions. IDC’s smartphone market data also forecast 20% foldable growth in 2026 while noting that foldables remain a small part of total shipments.
Omdia separately estimated that HONOR’s overseas shipments rose about 55% in the first three quarters of 2025. That is a different period and measure from IDC’s Q1 2026 global figure; the two should not be added together or treated as directly comparable. Together, they show momentum, not proof of a completed global recovery. Omdia’s regional analysis identifies distinct roles for Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Why international growth matters
China remains important to HONOR, but it is a fiercely contested market, and recent results there underline the value of geographic diversification. IDC’s preliminary Q2 2026 China data put HONOR at 11.3% share, down from 11.9% a year earlier, with shipments declining 9.5% year over year. These China figures have a different geographic scope and may use different reporting definitions and data status than global or regional shipment measures. They are a warning about domestic pressure, not a direct comparison with the global growth figures. IDC’s China market analysis provides the regional context.

For a company trying to grow internationally, the goal is not just to ship more devices into new countries. The more durable test is whether customers choose HONOR at retail, return to the brand, and can get software updates, repairs, and warranty service where they live. Public shipment figures alone do not establish those outcomes, nor do they establish profitability or a rising average selling price.
HONOR’s regional playbook
Europe: premium credibility and foldables
Omdia describes Europe as a premiumization market for HONOR. In Q1–Q3 2025, it reported that HONOR held top-five positions in core Western European markets including the UK and France. The Magic V5 ranked second in Western Europe’s book-style foldable segment over that period. In Central and Eastern Europe, HONOR shipments rose 15% as the company invested in channels and brand-building.
Those results give HONOR a foothold, not an automatic route into sustained competition with Apple and Samsung. Operator relationships, retail reach, reliable local repair, software support, and recognizable products across more than one premium category will matter. A foldable can draw attention, but it cannot by itself build broad familiarity with a brand.

Latin America: a volume foundation
Omdia identifies Latin America as HONOR’s overseas volume backbone, with Mexico and Central America among its core markets and operator-led distribution helping the business. Its Q1–Q3 2025 country figures show both substantial growth and widely different starting positions:
| Market | Shipment growth | Market share | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peru | 5% | 21% | 3 |
| Central America | 48% | 20% | 2 |
| Caribbean | 122% | 16% | 3 |
| Ecuador | 89% | 10% | 4 |
| Mexico | 7% | 8% | 5 |
| Brazil | 478% | 1% | 8 |
Each figure covers Q1–Q3 2025 and comes from Omdia’s regional analysis. Large growth rates can arise from a small base: Brazil’s 478% increase still coincided with just 1% share and an eighth-place ranking. Mexico and Central America offer a more established foundation than an isolated high-growth percentage. The 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada may create opportunities for operator promotions and phone upgrades, but it does not guarantee HONOR will gain share.
Middle East: the clearest current growth engine
Omdia’s Q1–Q3 2025 figures show HONOR gaining ground across several Middle Eastern markets:

| Saudi Arabia | 30% | 9% | 4 |
| UAE | 31% | 9% | 4 |
| Kuwait | 234% | 7% | 4 |
In a separate announcement, HONOR said it became the Middle East’s second-largest smartphone vendor in Q1 2026, citing Omdia. HONOR also reported 73% year-over-year regional growth and 130% growth in the US$300–500 segment, where it said it held 24% share. These are figures presented by HONOR and attributed to Omdia; they should be read as company-reported claims rather than as independently verified here. HONOR’s announcement describes the claim and its regional lineup.
The region suits a strategy built around operator and electronics-retail channels, premium-looking mid-range phones, and features such as battery life, durability, cameras, and large displays. Those channels can also give shoppers a chance to see AI features demonstrated in person. But growth in selected markets does not establish equal strength across the whole region.
Southeast Asia: growth that depends on infrastructure
Omdia calls Southeast Asia a major expansion frontier. Its Q1–Q3 2025 figures report the following market positions:

| Thailand | 106% | 5% | 6 |
| Singapore | 156% | 4% | 5 |
| Vietnam | 139% | 3% | 7 |
The rankings show why growth percentages need context: several markets had high shipment growth but single-digit share and a place outside the top five. Omdia says HONOR is investing in local production in Indonesia, using Malaysia as a brand and service hub, and expanding flagship stores and service centers. That channel-and-service buildout is as important to repeat purchases as launching another device.
A product ladder from volume phones to prestige devices
HONOR’s strategy is not to rely on one flagship. It is pursuing premiumization while retaining mid-range and mass-market products that can build reach and operator support. The exact lineup varies by country; models named in a regional announcement should not be assumed to be sold worldwide.
- Mass-market and mid-range: HONOR has positioned the X9d around durability and the 600 series in the mid-premium segment in its Middle East lineup. These tiers can reach buyers who are not shopping for a flagship, but success depends on local pricing, reliable availability, and a competitive camera, battery, and support package.
- Premium and foldable: The Magic series, including the Magic V5 and V6, serves as a technology showcase and brand-building tier. Omdia’s reported Magic V5 result in Western European book-style foldables is evidence of traction in a specific category and period, not broad premium-market dominance.
- Beyond phones: MagicBook laptops and MagicPad tablets extend the portfolio toward connected-device use. They can make an HONOR phone more valuable to an existing customer, but a wider product range is not itself proof of a mature ecosystem or strong cross-device adoption.
HONOR says the Magic V6 made its global debut at MWC 2026 and launched in China on March 10, 2026. A global debut does not mean universal retail or carrier availability. HONOR’s Middle East announcement lists a 6,660mAh battery, 80W wired charging, 66W wireless charging, IP68/IP69 protection, and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Magic V6; those specifications are regional and model-specific, so buyers should check the local product listing before relying on them.

Foldables help HONOR signal industrial-design ambition and reach for higher-value sales, but IDC’s forecast underlines their limits: even with 20% growth forecast for 2026, foldables remain a small share of smartphone shipments. The company still needs conventional phones that sell consistently across the broad price range, including below premium tiers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.AI is the strategy’s connective story, not yet proof of an ecosystem
HONOR’s Alpha Plan sets out a three-stage roadmap: an intelligent phone, an intelligent ecosystem, and an intelligent world. The company’s branding emphasizes a future spanning devices and services rather than a recovery in phone shipments alone. HONOR’s brand overview describes the roadmap.
At MWC 2026, HONOR announced an AI Connect Platform intended to integrate more than 20,000 AI services by the end of 2026, with partners across phones, education, smart-home products, audio, pets, and toys. That is a future target, not a count of services already available to consumers. The announcement also describes broader ambitions, including an agentic ecosystem and a “personal avatar.” The MWC announcement carried by PR Newswire outlines those plans.
For consumers, the value of AI will depend on what works in their country and language, whether processing happens on-device or in the cloud, what data is collected, whether features require accounts or subscriptions, and how long they remain supported. Compatibility with non-HONOR devices will also determine whether the ecosystem is open in daily use or mainly useful to people who buy more HONOR hardware. Those practical questions matter more than a target number of partner services.

What could slow the expansion
- Shipments are not the same as consumer demand. Channel shipments can reflect expanded distribution, promotions, or inventory changes. Sell-through, operator activations, repeat purchases, and multiple quarters of market-share gains would provide a stronger test of lasting demand.
- Premiumization creates a value trade-off. IDC has warned that memory shortages and other cost pressures are pushing vendors toward higher prices and premium tiers. HONOR has to move upmarket without losing the price-sensitive customers who make its volume strategy work.
- Support must follow the devices. Operator access and retail visibility are of limited use if repair, warranty service, software updates, or inventory are inconsistent by country. HONOR’s regional service investments are therefore part of the competitive strategy, not an afterthought.
- Regional wins do not yet make a universal brand. Current evidence is stronger in the Middle East, parts of Latin America, Malaysia, and Western European foldables than it is for broad global premium share. The available evidence does not establish a meaningful US carrier or retail strategy; US shoppers should verify official sales, network-band compatibility, Google services, and warranty coverage rather than assuming an imported model is equivalent to a locally supported phone.
- Growth must be economically sound. Rapid shipment gains can be costly if they depend on discounting or heavy channel spending. The figures cited here do not establish HONOR’s profitability or the margins behind its expansion.
What would show that HONOR has rebuilt its position?
A convincing recovery would be visible in a run of measures, not one growth quarter or a handful of regional rankings:
- Repeated global share gains across consecutive quarters, not just high shipment growth from a low base.
- Stronger sell-through and repeat buying alongside shipment growth.
- More consistent carrier presence, local inventory, repair access, and warranty service across target countries.
- Premium sales that persist without sacrificing the appeal of mid-range models.
- AI features that are available across regions, languages, and compatible devices, with clear privacy practices and sustained software support.
- Growth that is profitable and broad enough to reduce exposure to weakness in China or any single overseas region.
HONOR has a credible international expansion engine: a product ladder, a channel strategy, and measurable growth in selected markets. Its global rebuild is still unfinished. Whether it lasts will depend on converting shipment momentum into durable consumer demand, dependable local support, and a broader premium presence.
