Donald Trump’s July 27, 2024, appearance at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville drew criticism, but reporting from inside the event described an enthusiastic crowd and applause. The available sources do not establish that crypto fans generally were disgusted by his remarks.
What happened at Bitcoin 2024
Trump spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 conference at Nashville’s Music City Center on July 27, 2024. Axios reported that he took the stage an hour late, but that the delay did not dampen the capacity crowd’s enthusiasm. CoinDesk described a packed hall with more than 3,000 attendees and reported applause for Trump’s promise to fire Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler if elected. Those accounts describe people in the room, not all Bitcoin or cryptocurrency supporters. Axios; CoinDesk
What Trump said about crypto
Trump used the speech to court support from the cryptocurrency industry. He said, “Bitcoin stands for freedom,” and promised that the U.S. government would keep bitcoin it held or acquired rather than sell it. Axios reported that the government held more than 210,000 BTC at the time; that is a historical figure from 2024, not a current balance. He also called for expanding U.S. energy production and warned that China could take the lead if the United States did not embrace bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Axios
The speech also ranged beyond digital assets. Axios reported that Trump moved into broader campaign subjects, including Israel, wars and energy independence. His remarks therefore mixed crypto-policy promises with familiar campaign themes; describing them as “rambling” is an interpretation of that delivery, not an objective measurement of coherence. Axios

Was the speech really “rambling”?
The transcript includes repetitions and conversational asides. For example, Trump said he was “thrilled to be here in Nashville to become the first American president ever to address a bitcoin event anywhere in the world, anywhere in the world.” That wording supports a reader’s impression that parts of the speech were repetitive, while the transcript also records substantive remarks about bitcoin and policy. The label “rambling” remains a characterization rather than a finding established by the transcript. Roll Call / Factba.se transcript

Contemporaneous coverage offers evidence of a positive in-person response: the crowd was described as enthusiastic, and attendees applauded at least one crypto-related promise. A critical reaction also circulated online, attributed in a Reddit post to crypto investor Marc van der Chijs. That post is a particular reaction, not a representative survey. The cited sources provide no systematic polling or breakdown showing how crypto fans overall responded. Axios; CoinDesk; Reddit post

It is also important to separate campaign promises from policy already in force. Trump’s speech proposed a pro-crypto direction, including retaining government bitcoin and expanding energy production; reporting on the appearance does not mean those proposals had been enacted. CBS News described the speech in the context of Trump’s shift toward courting the crypto industry. CBS News
