How to Redeem Microsoft Rewards Points and Codes

There are two different processes: use the Microsoft Rewards dashboard to exchange points for a reward, and use Microsoft’s code page for a Microsoft or Xbox code. If your reward is a third-party gift card, follow the provider-specific instructions shown in your Rewards order details instead.

Choose the right redemption route

Rewards points are not themselves a code. Some Microsoft or Xbox gift-card rewards may be deposited directly into your Microsoft account balance; other rewards provide a code or redemption link. Microsoft says offers and availability vary by country or region.

Redeem points for a Microsoft or Xbox reward

Go to rewards.microsoft.com and sign in to the Microsoft account that earned the points.
Check the account email and points balance, then select Redeem.
Choose the Microsoft or Xbox reward you want. Review its value, points cost, availability, and conditions before continuing.
Select the reward options and choose Redeem Rewards.
Complete the verification Microsoft requests. Depending on the account and redemption, this may be SMS verification or a QR-code option.
After confirmation, find any code or link under Redeem → Order history → Order Details. Microsoft’s labels can vary slightly with the site, account, or region.

Use the region where your Microsoft account is registered. Microsoft warns that VPNs, proxies, and cross-region activity can interfere with redemption or lead to a cancelled order. Rewards offers, prices, and stock also vary by region; a temporarily missing gift card does not necessarily indicate an account problem, and Microsoft does not promise a restock date. Find a code or link after claiming a reward

Sign in to the Rewards account used for the order.
Open Redeem → Order history.
Select the order and open Order Details to view the code, link, or redemption instructions.
If the confirmation email is missing, check the account’s primary email address and its spam, junk, and promotions folders. Use Resend in Order History if that option appears.

Rewards Order History is distinct from Microsoft Store purchase history. Microsoft documents checking order status and resending a confirmation through Rewards order tracking.

Redeem a Microsoft or Xbox code

Go to microsoft.com/redeem.
Sign in to the Microsoft account where you want the credit, game, or other entitlement.
Enter or paste the code without adding spaces, then select Next.
Check the product or value and the signed-in account before confirming. Complete the redemption only if both are correct.

The credit or entitlement is associated with the account used to redeem it. Check carefully before the final confirmation: Microsoft does not generally transfer a redeemed code or balance to another account. Fix a failed redemption

The code is invalid or will not work

Copy it again from Rewards Order history → Order Details, if it came from a Rewards order.
Make sure you are using the correct route: Microsoft/Xbox codes go to Microsoft’s code page, while Office, Windows, and third-party gift cards have separate redemption instructions.
Check for accidental spaces and lookalike characters, such as zero and the letter O.
Confirm the account and region match the reward’s conditions. If the code still fails, follow the reward’s provider instructions or contact Microsoft Rewards Support.

SMS verification fails

Enter the newest verification code and avoid repeated guesses. Microsoft requires a mobile or landline number for this process; VoIP numbers are not accepted. Microsoft also states that one phone number can be associated with a maximum of six Microsoft Rewards accounts per household. After too many unsuccessful verification attempts, Microsoft says you must wait 48 hours before trying again. Details are in Microsoft’s redemption guidance.

QR verification is not available

When redeeming in a browser, Microsoft may offer QR verification as an alternative to SMS. At the verification screen, select Verify with the Bing app, scan the displayed QR code with a mobile device, enter the six-digit verification code, then return to the original browser window to finish. This option is not available in every region, does not appear inside the Bing app, and may not be offered for rewards configured for Auto-redeem. See Microsoft’s QR verification instructions.

Microsoft says you are traveling or shows a region error

Turn off any VPN or proxy and try again from the account’s registered region. Microsoft Rewards redemptions are region-specific; do not use a VPN to access another market. If you are genuinely traveling, wait until you can redeem from the registered region.

The reward is unavailable or the order was cancelled

A reward may be out of stock or no longer offered. Microsoft also lists wrong-region redemption, VPN use, activity across multiple countries, and unmet verification requirements among possible causes of cancellation. Check the order status in Redeem → Order history and review the applicable conditions in Microsoft’s order-tracking guidance. If the issue is an unavailable reward, choose another available offer rather than assuming a restock date.

What happens to the reward after redemption?

Microsoft or Xbox gift-card credit: Rewards gift-card value may be deposited directly into the Microsoft account balance. Microsoft identifies these Rewards gift cards as promotional balance, so applicable promotional terms may differ from purchased gift cards. See Microsoft Rewards FAQs and Microsoft gift-card terms.
Game, app, or other digital code: Redeeming it attaches the entitlement to the Microsoft account you chose.
Third-party gift card: The reward may give you a provider-specific code or link; redeem it with that retailer, not automatically through Microsoft.

Microsoft account balance can pay for eligible games, apps, movies and TV, in-app purchases, some physical goods and accessories, and certain Xbox-related subscriptions. It cannot be used to purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription. Eligible uses are described at Microsoft account balance guidance.
