Tesla sold an estimated 39,800 vehicles in the United States in November 2025, down nearly 23% from 51,513 a year earlier, according to Cox Automotive figures reported by Reuters on December 11, 2025. The decline came after Tesla introduced lower-priced Standard versions of the Model Y and Model 3, suggesting the price cuts did not produce an immediate rebound in U.S. sales. It was a U.S. monthly estimate—not Tesla’s global delivery total.
How many Teslas were sold in November 2025?
Cox Automotive estimated Tesla’s U.S. November sales at 39,800 vehicles, compared with 51,513 in November 2024. Reuters described the drop as nearly 23% year over year and the lowest U.S. sales level since January 2022.
These are estimated U.S. sales for one month. Tesla’s own figures count global deliveries over a quarter or full year, so they measure a different geography and period.
Did the cheaper Model Y and Model 3 help sales?
Tesla launched stripped-down Standard versions of the Model Y and Model 3 in October 2025. Reuters reported that they were priced about $5,000 below the previous base models. The lower-priced trims were intended to support demand, but November’s overall U.S. result did not show a lift.

The available figures do not break November U.S. sales down by Standard and Premium trim. Cox Automotive’s Stephanie Valdez Streaty told Reuters that Standard versions were not generating enough demand to offset the post-tax-credit market, and that they were cannibalizing Premium versions, particularly for the Model 3. Without trim-level unit data, the size of either effect cannot be calculated from the reported totals.
The Associated Press reported the cheaper Model Y was priced just under $40,000 and the cheaper Model 3 under $37,000. Those are reported vehicle prices, not a complete measure of what a buyer pays: financing, taxes, fees, incentives and equipment can affect the final cost. A lower sticker price also does not by itself establish eligibility for a tax credit.

Why did Tesla sales fall?
The November decline happened during a sharp contraction in the U.S. EV market. Cox data cited by Reuters showed overall U.S. EV sales fell more than 41% that month, while Tesla’s share of U.S. EV sales rose to 56.7% from 43.1%. Tesla therefore lost sales in a market that contracted even faster; its higher share does not mean its own sales increased.

- Federal tax credit expiration: The $7,500 U.S. federal EV tax credit expired after September, a major change in purchase economics identified in both reports.
- Borrowing costs: High financing costs can make a vehicle less affordable even when its sticker price falls. Reuters also reported commentary linking Tesla’s financing offers to demand, but that is not a measured breakdown of the November decline.
- Competition: Reuters cited stronger competition, especially in Europe and China, while Cox’s Valdez Streaty warned of upcoming lower-priced competitors.
- Aging product lineup and brand concerns: The reports also pointed to limited recent new-model launches and brand damage associated with Elon Musk’s political activity.
These are reported explanations and commentary, not a controlled analysis assigning a specific share of the sales decline to each cause. The figures do not show how many customers left because of the credit’s expiration, financing costs, product choices or any other individual factor.
Is the 23% decline U.S. sales or global deliveries?
The nearly 23% figure refers to estimated U.S. sales in November 2025, as reported by Reuters using Cox Automotive data. It is not Tesla’s official global delivery figure. Tesla’s Q4 2025 release reported 418,227 global vehicle deliveries in the quarter and 1,636,129 for the full year.

Tesla’s release counted 406,585 Model 3 and Model Y deliveries out of its Q4 total, and 1,585,279 out of the full-year total. The two models remained the company’s main delivery volume. The Associated Press rounded Tesla’s 2025 deliveries to 1.64 million and reported a 9% year-over-year decline; it also said BYD sold 2.26 million vehicles in 2025, overtaking Tesla as the largest EV maker by sales.

The November figure is evidence that lower-priced trims did not prevent a year-over-year fall in Tesla’s U.S. sales that month. It is not enough to establish whether a particular buyer should choose a Standard Model 3 or Model Y, or whether Tesla’s prices will change next. Buyers comparing an EV should consider the actual trim and equipment, out-the-door price, available incentives, financing terms and competing models—not infer value or future discounts from one monthly sales estimate.
