You need the network’s native token to pay gas. Connecting a wallet does not itself transfer custody, but every approval and transaction you sign can have consequences.
This guide focuses on swapping tokens. PancakeSwap also lets users provide liquidity, which is a different activity with different risks.
Before you start: choose the network and wallet
PancakeSwap’s documentation describes swaps on BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, and Aptos, and provides separate setup guidance for other networks, including Solana and Monad. Network availability and interface options can change, so check the current list in the official app before sending funds. The right wallet must support the network on which your tokens reside. PancakeSwap’s getting-started guide presents BNB Smart Chain setup as creating a wallet, obtaining BEP20 tokens, and connecting the wallet.
Do not identify a token by its symbol alone: the same symbol can refer to different assets on different networks. Confirm the network and token contract through trustworthy project information before swapping.

- Install wallet software only from the wallet provider’s official source. The PancakeSwap connection guide describes wallet connection options, including browser and mobile workflows.
- Back up the recovery phrase securely offline. Never enter it on PancakeSwap or share it with anyone claiming to be support.
- Fund the wallet with the tokens you plan to trade and enough of that network’s native asset to pay transaction gas. The required gas asset depends on the network; for example, PancakeSwap’s Solana setup guide says SOL is used for Solana transaction fees.
Documentation names SafePal in both software and hardware formats, but that is an example, not an independent recommendation or security ranking. A hardware wallet does not remove the risks of phishing, malicious tokens, or signing an unsafe transaction.
How do I connect a wallet to PancakeSwap?
- Open PancakeSwap using its official domain or a bookmark you created after verifying the domain. Avoid links in unsolicited messages.
- Select Connect in the app and choose your wallet. Exact screen labels may change.
- Approve the connection request in the wallet, then check that the wallet is set to the network holding the tokens you intend to use.
A connection lets the app interact with your wallet address; it is not the same as approving a token or confirming a swap. Read each wallet prompt separately. Stop if a request shows an unexpected network, contract, destination, or permission.

How do I swap tokens on PancakeSwap?
- Open the swap or trade feature and choose the token you will spend and the token you want to receive. Verify each token and network, especially if you search by name or symbol.
- Enter the amount. Review the quoted output, route details, price impact or slippage information shown, and any fees. The quote can change before execution.
- If the wallet asks for a token approval, check which token and permission the request covers. A first trade with a token may require approval as a separate transaction before the swap.
- Review the swap transaction in your wallet, including the network and details shown, then confirm only if they match the trade you intend to make.
- Wait for the wallet and the relevant block explorer to show the transaction result. Do not submit another transaction just because the first one appears slow; first check whether it is pending or failed.
A failed or delayed transaction can have several causes, including insufficient gas, a network mismatch, token restrictions, limited liquidity, or slippage. Check the transaction status and the wallet’s error details before trying again. No quoted output or transaction outcome is guaranteed.
What fees does PancakeSwap charge?
Costs depend on the network, pool, route, and token. PancakeSwap’s swap documentation lists the following pool fees. They are figures in documentation labeled as updated about a year before September 30, 2026, not a promise that every current route displays those rates; inspect the live quote and wallet prompt.

Gas is a separate network transaction cost. A token may also impose its own contract-level transfer or transaction tax; PancakeSwap’s trade FAQ uses a 1% token tax as an example, not as a standard PancakeSwap charge. Read the quote and wallet details rather than assuming the pool fee is the only cost.

Yes. A swap exchanges one token for another. Providing liquidity means depositing a token pair into a pool so others can trade against it; liquidity providers may receive trading fees, but returns are not guaranteed.

On PancakeSwap V3, a liquidity position is a non-fungible position with a price range selected by the provider. If the pool price moves outside that range, the position’s behavior differs from simply holding the two tokens. The official liquidity guide says V3 fees are not automatically compounded and can be claimed from position details. Removing liquidity does not erase the effect of price changes while funds were committed.
Liquidity providers also face impermanent loss: the difference between the value of assets held in an automated market maker and the value of holding those tokens in a wallet. The guide warns about this risk; fees or farming rewards should not be treated as guaranteed profit.

Security checks to make before signing
- Never share a private key or recovery phrase, even with someone claiming to represent PancakeSwap or your wallet provider.
- Verify the site domain independently before connecting, and avoid unsolicited wallet or support links.
- Distinguish a connection request from a token approval and from the final swap. Inspect each prompt and do not approve an action you do not understand.
- If a token, network, contract, destination, or permission looks unexpected, reject the request and investigate before continuing.
