Re:

Aura vs LifeLock (2026): Features, Pricing, and Protection Compared

Aura offers a broad three-bureau baseline and bundled tools; LifeLock’s higher tiers add specialized financial, investment, property, and phone monitoring. Compare current plan prices and trade-offs.

For most U.S. consumers, Aura is the better-value starting point: its main plans include three-bureau credit monitoring, a credit lock, privacy tools, and antivirus, VPN, and password-manager features. LifeLock is a stronger specialist choice if you need its higher-tier monitoring for investments, property, phone takeover, or multiple financial accounts—or want Norton security bundled with identity protection. The right comparison is plan to plan: LifeLock Core costs less than Aura Individual, but it does not provide the same credit-monitoring breadth as LifeLock Total.

Prices and plan details below reflect publicly displayed U.S. offers around August 16, 2026; promotions, renewals, coverage terms, and product packaging can change.

Quick comparison: which service fits?

Buyer need Better fit Why Main trade-off
Broad baseline protection for one adult Aura Individual Three-bureau monitoring, credit lock, privacy tools, and device-security tools are included in the displayed plan. LifeLock Core has a lower annual entry price, but narrower bureau coverage.
Lower-cost LifeLock entry tier LifeLock Core Its displayed annual price is lower than Aura Individual’s. Two-bureau monitoring and more limited account coverage.
Investment, property, phone, or many-account monitoring LifeLock Total Includes three-bureau monitoring, unlimited monitored financial accounts, and specialized alerts. Substantially higher individual price than Aura.
Two adults, with value and broad baseline tools Aura Couple Displayed coverage is for two adults and 20 devices. LifeLock’s two-adult plan pricing and features depend on tier.
Several adults and children Aura Family Up to five adults, unlimited children, and unlimited devices, with child-safety features. LifeLock family packages generally cover two adults and up to 10 children.
Identity protection plus Norton device security Norton 360 with LifeLock Combines identity features with Norton security tools. Promotional and renewal prices differ; this is a bundle, not a LifeLock-only plan.

What is actually being compared?

Aura’s main plans

Aura sells Individual, Couple, and Family plans that combine identity monitoring with privacy and device-security features. Aura Kids is a separate parental-control product; do not confuse its online-safety functions with identity monitoring for a child.

LifeLock’s current plan ladder

LifeLock’s current identity plans are Core, Advanced, and Total. Older articles may use Standard, Advantage, or Ultimate Plus; those names do not map cleanly to the current lineup. LifeLock’s older Ultimate Plus page says that product is no longer available: LifeLock Ultimate Plus.

Norton 360 with LifeLock is a separate comparison

Norton 360 with LifeLock bundles identity protection with Norton device-security products. Antivirus, VPN, password-management, and device-protection claims should be attributed to the bundle when applicable, not automatically to a LifeLock-only identity plan. See Norton 360.

Prices and renewal economics

The following are displayed U.S. prices observed around August 16, 2026. LifeLock annual prices are paid upfront; the monthly equivalent is not a monthly billing option. Annual LifeLock prices are first-year offers, so compare checkout renewal terms before subscribing. Aura’s listed annual prices are also annual charges, shown with a monthly equivalent by the vendor.

Coverage Plan Annual charge Monthly billing
One adult Aura Individual $144/year ($12/month equivalent) $15/month
One adult LifeLock Core $124.99 first year ($10.42/month equivalent) $12.49/month
One adult, mid-tier LifeLock Advanced $199.99 first year ($16.67/month equivalent) $19.99/month
One adult, highest identity tier LifeLock Total $349.99 first year ($29.17/month equivalent) $34.99/month
Two adults Aura Couple $264/year ($22/month equivalent) $29/month
Two adults LifeLock Core $224.99 first year ($18.75/month equivalent) $22.49/month
Family Aura Family $384/year ($32/month equivalent) $50/month
Family LifeLock Advanced $479.99 first year ($40/month equivalent) $47.99/month
Family, highest LifeLock tier LifeLock Total $749.99 first year ($62.50/month equivalent) $74.99/month

Sources: Aura and LifeLock. The LifeLock page displays annual first-year pricing; the renewal amount may differ. A current LifeLock page also displays Norton 360 with LifeLock Ultimate Plus at $25/month for the first annual term, renewing at $364.99/year, or $34.99 month to month; confirm the actual bundle and checkout terms because offers may vary. That bundle is not directly comparable to a LifeLock-only identity plan.

Aura displays a 14-day free trial and a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual plans. LifeLock displays a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual plans. LifeLock

  • Core: two-bureau credit monitoring; one-bureau monthly credit report and score; three-bureau annual report and score.
  • Advanced: one-bureau monthly report and score and three-bureau annual report and score. The current page does not present it as the same ongoing three-bureau monitoring included with Total.
  • Total: three-bureau credit monitoring, one-bureau daily report and score, and three-bureau annual report and score.

Source: LifeLock plan details. “Credit monitoring” alone is not enough to compare plans: check the number of bureaus, frequency of reports or scores, and whether ongoing monitoring is included.

A lock is not a statutory freeze

A credit lock offered by a provider is not automatically the same as a free credit freeze placed with the bureaus. If your priority is making it harder for a lender to open new credit in your name, consider freezing your files directly with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. When applying for credit, housing, insurance, or a job that involves a credit check, you may need to temporarily lift a freeze or unlock a file. Monitoring can alert you to changes; it does not prevent every form of fraud or replace reviewing reports and disputing errors.

Account alerts and monitoring breadth

Aura’s baseline

Aura lists financial-transaction alerts, dark-web monitoring, home- and auto-title monitoring, three-bureau credit monitoring, and identity-restoration specialists. Its plan page also lists AI spam-call and message protection. These capabilities are part of Aura’s broader package, rather than a separate top-tier identity-only ladder.

LifeLock’s tiered specialty monitoring

LifeLock’s plan page lists features across different tiers such as identity and Social Security alerts, dark-web and breach alerts, identity-verification alerts, social-media monitoring, credit, checking and savings activity alerts, and bank-account-takeover alerts. Higher tiers add or broaden 401(k) and investment-account alerts, home-title monitoring, phone-takeover monitoring, credit and payday-loan lock, buy-now-pay-later alerts, utility-account alerts, Card Exposure Control, AI Financial Defense, and scam support. Account-count limits apply at lower tiers; Total lists unlimited monitored financial accounts. Check the plan comparison for the specific account types and limits relevant to you.

Sources: Aura and LifeLock. The practical distinction is breadth versus tiering: Aura puts a broad set of common tools in its main plans, while LifeLock has more specialized account-monitoring categories but concentrates its broadest coverage in Total.

Data removal, dark-web monitoring, and scam support

Data removal is not dark-web monitoring

Aura says its data-removal service covers more than 200 data brokers, people-search sites, junk-mailers, and Google search results, and also lists unused digital-account cleanup. LifeLock lists automatic data-broker removal on its current plans, but the precise plan availability and scope should be checked on the current plan page. A removal request or delisting does not erase an underlying public record or guarantee that information will never reappear. Dark-web monitoring, by contrast, looks for exposed information; it does not remove the information from a broker or stop its use.

Scam support and reimbursement are narrower than general fraud protection

LifeLock Total displays up to $10,000 in scam reimbursement, alongside scam support. Aura lists spam-call and message protection, but that is not the same as a promise to repay money sent to a scammer. Read the applicable terms to learn what qualifies as a reimbursable scam loss; a service cannot reliably stop someone from voluntarily transferring money to a convincing fraudster.

Restoration assistance and insurance are different benefits

Both services pair alerts with human recovery assistance, but neither alert nor assistance guarantees that a bank will reverse a transaction or that an insurer will reimburse a loss. A typical response still requires the customer to verify the event, secure the account, contact the relevant institution, and provide documentation.

Displayed insurance and reimbursement limits

Plan Displayed limit What the headline includes or does not establish
Aura Individual $1 million per adult Vendor-described identity-theft insurance; the displayed amount is not a guaranteed payout.
Aura Couple $2 million Displayed household plan limit; consult policy wording for allocation and eligible losses.
Aura Family $5 million Displayed family plan limit; consult policy wording for allocation and eligibility.
LifeLock Core Up to $1.05 million Includes up to $25,000 for stolen funds.
LifeLock Advanced Up to $1.2 million Includes up to $100,000 for stolen funds.
LifeLock Total Up to $3 million Includes up to $1 million for stolen funds; also displays up to $10,000 scam reimbursement.

Sources: Aura and LifeLock. These figures should not be treated as directly equivalent: professional restoration expenses, lawyers or experts, stolen funds, personal expenses, and scam losses can fall into different coverage buckets. Per-adult versus household limits also matter. Insurance is governed by policy definitions, exclusions, eligibility, documentation requirements, and state-specific terms; check the applicable policy before relying on a limit.

What happens after an alert

  1. Check whether the alert is legitimate. Confirm the transaction, application, account change, or exposure through the institution involved rather than using a link in an unexpected message.
  2. Secure the affected account. Change compromised credentials, enable multifactor authentication, and contact the bank, card issuer, bureau, agency, or service provider as appropriate.
  3. Document and report the event. Follow the institution’s dispute or fraud process and retain records needed for restoration or a potential claim.
  4. Ask the service’s restoration team for help. Aura lists U.S.-based expert remediation and 24/7 support; LifeLock lists restoration specialists, 24/7 phone support, identity consultation, and tier-dependent priority support. Sources: Aura and LifeLock.
  5. Review insurance only if the loss qualifies. The insurer applies the policy terms; an alert or restoration case does not itself establish coverage.

Privacy and device-security tools

Aura bundles more than identity monitoring

Aura’s displayed core plans include antivirus, VPN, and a password manager as well as data-removal features. That bundle can be valuable if you need those tools and do not already pay for comparable services. Whether they can replace existing products depends on your devices, operating systems, features, and the number of devices covered by your current subscriptions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not attribute Norton bundle features to every LifeLock plan

For antivirus, VPN, password management, and broader device protection, compare Aura with Norton 360 with LifeLock—not with LifeLock identity-only coverage. The product and device count vary by bundle. Check the current Norton 360 product page and checkout details, especially if you already have a password manager, VPN, or antivirus subscription.

Family plans: adults, children, and devices

Plan Adult and child coverage Devices Notes
Aura Couple Two adults 20 devices Compare with LifeLock two-adult pricing and tier features.
Aura Family Up to five adults and unlimited children Unlimited Includes child-protection and parental-control features; displayed insurance limit is $5 million.
LifeLock family packages Generally two adults and up to 10 children Not stated on the cited plan comparison Pricing, tier features, and reimbursement limits vary; child and adult coverage may be allocated differently.

Sources: Aura pricing and LifeLock pricing. Parental controls and online-wellbeing tools are not the same as identity monitoring or identity-theft insurance for a child. Before choosing, verify whether each child receives identity monitoring, what reimbursement applies, how adult profiles are set up, and whether the household’s actual number of users fits the plan.

Plan-by-plan matchups

Aura Individual vs. LifeLock Core

Choose Aura when three-bureau monitoring, a credit lock, and bundled privacy and device tools matter more than the lowest entry price. Choose Core if you want LifeLock’s lower displayed annual price and can accept two-bureau monitoring, one-bureau monthly reports and scores, and narrower monitored-account coverage.

Aura Individual vs. LifeLock Advanced

Aura costs less than Advanced on both displayed monthly and annual pricing and includes three-bureau monitoring in its main plan. Advanced may suit someone who prioritizes broader account-focused alerts and automatic data-broker removal over Aura’s bundled security tools. Verify which account types and counts are included before deciding.

  • Cross-cut paper and credit card shredder cuts material into approximate 0.2 x 1.2 inches (5 x 30 mm) pieces; meets security level P-3 standards
  • Shreds up to 12 sheets of 20-pound bond paper at a time, also can shred credit cards (one at a time, but not suitable for metal credit cards), staples, and small paper clips
  • 9 minute runtime and 30 minute cool down; if unit goes over max run time, it automatically shuts off to prevent overheating

  • Quality tested: As part of Amazon Basics quality inspections, we test every shredder before shipping it, which means you may see some paper shreds from the testing

Aura Individual vs. LifeLock Total

Total costs considerably more, but it is the closer choice for a person with multiple financial accounts, investments or a 401(k), property-monitoring needs, or concern about phone takeover. It also lists the highest LifeLock reimbursement limits and scam reimbursement. For a person mainly seeking credit and exposure alerts, Aura is the more economical broad package.

Aura Couple vs. LifeLock two-adult plans

Aura Couple is $264 annually or $29 monthly for two adults and 20 devices. LifeLock’s displayed Core two-adult option is $224.99 for the first year or $22.49 monthly, but its lower-tier bureau and account-monitoring limitations still apply. Higher LifeLock tiers cost more; compare each adult’s actual credit and account needs rather than choosing solely by household price.

Aura Family vs. LifeLock family plans

Aura Family suits households needing more than two adults, unlimited children, and unlimited devices. LifeLock’s family structure generally covers two adults and up to 10 children; Advanced family is displayed at $479.99 annually or $47.99 monthly, and Total family at $749.99 annually or $74.99 monthly. Confirm the child coverage and per-adult or per-child insurance allocation in the plan terms.

Aura vs. Norton 360 with LifeLock

Compare the bundle if you need both identity monitoring and endpoint security. LifeLock’s displayed $25-per-month first annual term for Norton 360 with LifeLock Ultimate Plus renews at $364.99 annually according to the current LifeLock page; offers can change. The older Ultimate Plus identity product page is no longer available, so do not assume legacy plan names describe today’s standalone LifeLock lineup. Compare the bundle’s renewal price and device coverage against Aura and any security subscriptions you already own.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which service fits your situation?

  • “I want broad protection without a complicated tier ladder.” Start with Aura Individual; its displayed main plan includes three-bureau monitoring and bundled privacy and security tools.
  • “I want the lowest displayed paid entry price.” LifeLock Core is cheaper annually than Aura Individual, but it is a narrower fit if you require continuous three-bureau monitoring.
  • “I have multiple bank, investment, retirement, or property accounts.” Compare LifeLock Total’s unlimited monitored financial accounts and specialized alerts with your exact account list.
  • “I want antivirus and a VPN too.” Compare Aura’s bundle with Norton 360 with LifeLock, checking whether either duplicates software you already pay for.
  • “I’m protecting more than two adults and children.” Aura Family’s stated allowance is more flexible on adult count and children; verify the identity and insurance coverage that applies to each person.
  • “My main worry is already-exposed personal information.” Consider both monitoring and data-removal scope. Neither dark-web alerts nor removal requests guarantee that exposed information disappears everywhere.
  • “I’m most worried about scams.” Look closely at LifeLock Total’s displayed scam reimbursement terms, but remember that reimbursement is conditional and scam support does not prevent every transfer.
  • “I only need alerts and can handle recovery myself.” Free freezes and institution-level alerts may be sufficient; you may not need a paid restoration service.

What neither service can guarantee

  • Neither can prevent every breach, dark-web sale, social-engineering attempt, or fraud involving accounts and data it does not monitor.
  • An alert may depend on a reportable event or an available data feed; it does not mean every transaction is seen instantly.
  • Monitoring does not automatically stop a payment, restore stolen money, or compel a bank or bureau to reverse a decision.
  • Data removal does not erase the underlying public record or guarantee permanent removal from every site.
  • Insurance limits are maximums subject to the policy, not automatic compensation for all losses.
  • Bank-linking features require scrutiny: check supported institutions, account-count limits, data access and sharing, and what alternatives exist when an institution is unsupported.

Free steps that can make a paid plan unnecessary

  1. Freeze credit with all three bureaus. Use each bureau’s official freeze process to block many new-credit applications without a subscription.
  2. Turn on alerts at the source. Enable transaction, login, password-change, wire-transfer, and card-not-present alerts with your banks and card issuers.
  3. Use unique passwords and multifactor authentication. A password manager can help prevent one breached password from unlocking several accounts.
  4. Review your credit reports. Free reports are available through AnnualCreditReport.com; review them and dispute inaccurate information directly.
  5. Secure exposed accounts promptly. Change reused credentials, revoke suspicious sessions, and contact institutions through verified channels.

These measures can reduce risk, but they do not provide continuous monitoring across every identity signal, a dedicated restoration team, or policy-based reimbursement.

Final recommendation

Aura is the strongest default for an individual, couple, or family seeking three-bureau monitoring alongside privacy and device-security tools at a comparatively predictable displayed price. LifeLock Core is the lower-cost entry point if its monitoring scope is enough; LifeLock Total is the more suitable specialist tier for extensive account, investment, property, and phone-takeover monitoring or its higher stated reimbursement limits. Choose Norton 360 with LifeLock only when its security bundle matches what your household needs, and judge it by renewal terms—not just its first-term price.

For disciplined consumers comfortable managing alerts and recovery themselves, a three-bureau credit freeze, account alerts, strong passwords, and multifactor authentication may be sufficient without either subscription.
