Cracker Barrel announced on August 26, 2025, that it was abandoning the simplified, name-only logo unveiled a week earlier and keeping its familiar Old Timer design. The company thanked guests for speaking up. It later paused a separate set of restaurant-remodel tests, another part of the broader brand controversy.
What changed, and when?
- May 2024: Cracker Barrel announced a multi-year strategic transformation plan. In a later shareholder response, the company described brand refinement as one of five pillars and said the logo and remodel tests were among more than 20 initiatives. Company response, October 2025.
- August 19, 2025: The company unveiled a simplified, name-only logo, according to a contemporaneous proxy filing. Biglari Group proxy statement, October 2025.
- August 26, 2025: Cracker Barrel said it would scrap the new logo and retain the Old Timer. On the same day, President Donald Trump publicly urged the chain to return to its old logo. Associated Press, August 26, 2025; Biglari Group proxy statement, October 2025.
- September 9, 2025: Cracker Barrel announced that it was suspending its restaurant-remodel tests. That was a separate decision from the logo rollback. ABC News, September 2025.
- October 2025: In a response to a shareholder, the company said it had reverted to the Old Timer and paused remodel tests. Cracker Barrel response, October 27, 2025.
Why did Cracker Barrel bring back the logo?
The company framed the reversal as a response to guests. Its statement, reported by the Associated Press on August 26, said: “We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain.” Associated Press, August 26, 2025.
In a September 17, 2025, results release, President and CEO Julie Masino said the company had listened to customers, switched back to the Old Timer, paused remodels, and put more emphasis on the kitchen and other parts of the guest experience. Cracker Barrel fiscal 2025 results release.
The public sequence shows a rapid reversal amid criticism of a broader brand-refinement effort. It does not establish that any one critic or event caused the decision. Trump’s public call for a return to the old logo came on the same day as the company’s announcement; that timing alone does not show that his comments prompted it.

In its October 2025 shareholder response, Cracker Barrel said the simpler word-only mark was intended for selected uses, including menus, billboards, and digital platforms, where it could be easier to read. The company said it had not intended to remove the Old Timer from every application and noted that it had used a word-only mark on many billboards and digital platforms for years. Cracker Barrel response, October 27, 2025.
That explanation is the company’s account of its design intent. The logo unveiled publicly on August 19 was widely understood as a redesign, and the company reversed course a week later after customers objected.

How were the remodel tests related?
Online discussion extended beyond the logo to remodeled test locations, which ABC described as having brighter, more modern elements. Cracker Barrel suspended the remodel tests in September; the pause was not the same action as restoring the Old Timer. ABC News, September 2025.
In its October shareholder response, the company said it had 62 remodel packages across 650 stores. It characterized approximately half as light refreshes and said four stores had received the more modern style that drew negative coverage. These are company figures, not independently verified counts. Cracker Barrel response, October 27, 2025.

Biglari Group, an activist shareholder, claimed in its October 2025 proxy filing that Cracker Barrel’s market capitalization fell by more than $160 million in the six days after the logo unveiling. The Associated Press reported that shares rose after more than a week of declines when the rollback was announced. That timing does not establish why the share price moved. The same AP report described the chain at the time as operating 660 restaurants in 43 states, and reported fiscal 2024 same-store sales declines of 0.1% for restaurants and 5.5% for retail. Those figures provide contemporaneous business context, not evidence that the logo change caused the sales results. Associated Press, August 26, 2025.
