The USDA reported that 96% of U.S. corn acreage had been harvested by November 23, 2025. That pace was four percentage points behind the same point in 2024 and one point below the five-year average. The November 24 release was the season’s final weekly Crop Progress report—not the final annual estimate of corn production or harvested acreage.
How much of the corn harvest was complete?
In its report released November 24, 2025, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) estimated that 96% of U.S. corn acreage had been harvested as of Sunday, November 23. The measure is the share of acreage estimated to have reached the harvest stage, not the share of the crop’s eventual bushels already counted in an annual production total.
The prior week’s annual summary records 91% harvested by November 16, so the reported national share rose five percentage points over the week. [USDA NASS, Crop Progress 11/24/2025; USDA NASS, Crop Production 2025 Summary]
How did the pace compare with earlier years?
| Benchmark for the week ending November 23 | 2025 result | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 2024, same point in the season | 96% harvested; 4 percentage points behind | Harvest progress was slower than the same point in 2024. |
| 2020–2024 five-year average | 96% harvested; 1 percentage point behind | Progress was close to, but slightly below, the average. |
These are percentage-point differences in acreage progress, not percentage changes in corn production or yield. The comparison uses the same reporting point and measure, which makes it more informative than comparing dates or unlike statistics.

What did “final report” mean?
NASS called the November 24 publication the last weekly Crop Progress report for the 2025 season. That weekly series tracks how much of a crop has reached specified stages during the growing season; “final” did not mean USDA had completed its annual accounting of harvested acreage, production, or storage.
The report said December survey results would provide final information on those subjects and scheduled the Annual Crop Production Summary for January 12. The January 2026 summary later reported 2025 corn-for-grain production estimated at a record 17.0 billion bushels, 14% above 2024, and an estimated record average yield of 186.5 bushels per acre, 7.2 bushels above 2024. Those annual estimates describe production and yield, not the November harvest-progress percentage. [USDA NASS, Crop Progress 11/24/2025; USDA NASS, Crop Production 2025 Summary]

How does USDA calculate crop progress?
NASS asks crop progress reporters to estimate, as of Sunday, the percentage of a crop that has reached or passed a defined stage. Harvest is one of these human-activity stages. The estimate is not a field-by-field inspection or a count of harvested bushels.
According to NASS’s survey guide, reporters are selected at the state level and are largely extension agents and Farm Service Agency staff; nearly every county has at least one reporter. Responses account for over 75% of acreage for major commodities. NASS publishes Crop Progress reports weekly from early April through late November, comparing the current week with the previous week, the prior year, and the five-year average. What should readers know about the state table?
The report’s selected-state corn table covers 18 states that harvested 94% of 2024 U.S. corn acreage. It is a broad but selected-state view, not a table of every state. Any state-level comparison drawn from it should retain that coverage note; it should not be treated as identical in scope to the national 96% headline.
