Contentmart shut down on August 22, 2018, about three years after its launch. It was a marketplace that matched freelance writers with clients commissioning web and business content. The company said it could not continue in its current form after efforts to avoid closure failed; its notice did not give a more specific reason.

When did Contentmart shut down?

Contentmart suspended its service on August 22, 2018, according to Candid.Technology’s shutdown-day report. Creative WebMedia had publicly announced the platform’s launch on June 25, 2015. YourStory later reported that founder Anton Rublevskyy started Contentmart in August 2015, so the public announcement and reported founding date are distinct milestones.

What was Contentmart used for?

Contentmart was an online freelance-content marketplace. Clients used it to commission writing, while writers used it to find paid assignments. Reported work included business writing, web pages, articles, blogs, press releases, travelogues, case studies, white papers and academic writing. Creative WebMedia also described translation and multilingual content as features it was rolling out.

How clients and writers worked together

  1. A client posted an order describing the project and its acceptance criteria.

  2. Writers could bid on the proposal. Clients could compare profiles, reviews, qualifications and areas of expertise before choosing a writer.

  3. The platform’s launch announcement described project funds being held until approval. YourStory’s 2016 profile said money was blocked in the client’s wallet and released after the client accepted the work.

Writers took writing and language tests as part of screening. The launch release said submitted work was checked for uniqueness; a 2017 company release described chat and anti-plagiarism algorithms. These were descriptions of platform features, not independent audits or guarantees that every assignment met a particular quality standard.

How large was the marketplace?

Published figures suggest the service grew, but they come from different publishers, years and measures. They should not be treated as a single audited or directly comparable series.

Publisher and year Reported figures
YourStory, 2016 More than 5,000 completed orders, about 16,000 registered writers and more than 20,000 client subscriptions.
Contentmart/Contentment Pvt. Ltd., 2017 company release distributed by PRWeb More than 50,000 registered writers, more than 63,000 registered clients and more than 20,000 completed projects since launch. The release also said the company charged writers a 10% commission from the order total.
Candid.Technology, 2018 shutdown coverage More than 103,000 writers and 110,000 international clients connected.

The labels differ: for example, one source counted client subscriptions, while another reported registered or connected clients. The figures describe what each publisher reported at that time, not verified active users.

Why did Contentmart close down?

In an email to members quoted by Candid.Technology, Contentmart said: “It has been an interesting journey, but nothing is permanent. We regret that it came to this, but all our efforts to avoid it failed. Contentmart simply cannot remain in its current form. Hence, three years later, we are closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.”

That is the explanation established by the cited coverage: the company said attempts to avoid closure had failed and that it could not continue in its existing form. The notice did not identify a particular financial, operational or competitive cause, so a more specific explanation cannot be confirmed from these reports.
