On Thursday, April 20, 2023, July corn futures closed 10 cents lower and July soybeans fell 11 cents. Wheat also declined across the three markets cited by Successful Farming’s daily report: CBOT wheat lost 12 cents, Kansas City wheat 23 cents, and Minneapolis wheat 12 cents. These are historical daily changes, not current prices.

What explanations did the report give for the declines?
At midday, the article attributed this market assessment to The Brock Report: pressure on grain and oilseed futures “is coming from poor weekly export sales across the board, a huge Brazilian crop, a mostly benign Midwest planting outlook, and weaker crude oil.” This was contemporaneous commentary, not a quantified breakdown of what caused each contract’s move.

The report also cited demand concerns, easing concern about Ukraine’s grain exports, technically driven selling, and forecasts for needed rain in the U.S. hard red winter wheat belt. It did not assign a measured share of the daily declines to any one factor.

- Keep the date attached: the prices and market outlook describe April 20, 2023, and should not be used as current quotes.
- Separate the close from earlier updates: intraday market snapshots can differ from the final closing changes.
- Distinguish wheat markets: CBOT, Kansas City, and Minneapolis wheat had different reported losses; the Kansas City decline was largest among the wheat figures listed.
- Read sales comparisons precisely: the reported week-over-week percentages and four-week-average percentages use different baselines.
