“Free hosting” often means a trial, a provider that places ads on your pages, or a plan that becomes unusable once a site gets visitors. The options below are genuinely free at the basic plan level, but each has a catch: usage limits, sleeping services, commercial-use restrictions, or the separate cost of registering a domain.
For most static websites—such as a personal-finance blog, portfolio, newsletter landing page, or calculator built with HTML and JavaScript—Cloudflare Pages is the best overall choice. If you need PHP and MySQL, the answer changes to InfinityFree.
What “actually free” hosting means
A legitimate free hosting plan should let you keep a basic website online without entering a card, cancelling a trial, or paying to avoid deletion. That does not mean it has unlimited resources or includes every feature of a paid host.
Most free plans provide a subdomain, such as project.pages.dev or username.github.io. They generally do not include a free custom domain such as yourfinanceblog.com. You must register that domain separately, normally for an annual fee. Hosting can therefore be free while the website address is not.

- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
For a personal-finance website, also check whether the provider permits commercial use. A site that earns advertising, affiliate commissions, sponsorship income, or product revenue may not qualify under every provider’s free plan.

1. Cloudflare Pages: best overall for a static site
Cloudflare Pages is the strongest default for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Astro, Hugo, Jekyll, and similar static websites. That covers many personal-finance sites: articles, calculators whose logic runs in the browser, lead-capture pages connected to an external service, and frontend applications that call an API elsewhere.
Its Free plan allows:
- 100 Pages projects per account
- 500 builds per month
- One build at a time
- 20,000 files per site
- 25 MiB maximum for an individual file
- 100 custom domains per project
- Unlimited active preview deployments
Builds time out after 20 minutes. Cloudflare does not list a Pages bandwidth allowance in its current Free-plan limits.
Manual upload
In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to Workers & Pages → Create application → Get started → Drag and drop your files. Enter a project name, upload a ZIP file or folder, and select Deploy site. The resulting address is usually <PROJECT_NAME>.pages.dev.
The dashboard upload method is limited to 1,000 files. If your generated site has more files, use Wrangler, which supports the 20,000-file Pages limit:
npx wrangler login
npx wrangler pages project create
npx wrangler pages deploy <BUILD_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY>
Replace the placeholder with the directory containing the finished site, such as dist, build, or public. To create a preview deployment:
npx wrangler pages deploy <OUTPUT_DIRECTORY> --branch=<BRANCH_NAME>
Cloudflare Pages pitfalls
- Direct Upload is not switchable to Git integration later. If you start with a Direct Upload project and later want automatic Git deployments, Cloudflare says to create a new project.
- Dashboard drag-and-drop does not compile a
functionsdirectory. Use Wrangler for Pages Functions. A_worker.jsfile is supported by dashboard drag-and-drop. - Files can exceed the limits. One file cannot exceed 25 MiB, and a site cannot exceed 20,000 files on the Free plan.
- New-account restrictions can occur. Cloudflare may temporarily prevent additional project creation during the first 48 hours of an account’s life.
Cloudflare Pages is not ordinary PHP hosting. If your finance site needs server-side PHP, use a different option or build the backend with Pages Functions, Workers, or an external service.

- Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
- Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.

2. GitHub Pages: best when your site already lives on GitHub
GitHub Pages suits documentation, portfolios, blogs, open-source project sites, and simple static websites maintained in a GitHub repository. It is especially convenient when every content change should be tracked in version control.

Repository → Settings → Code and automation → Pages → Build and deployment → Source → Deploy from a branch
Choose the branch and either / (root) or /docs, then select Save. You can also select GitHub Actions when the site needs a build process.
A personal site normally uses a repository named:
username.github.io
Its default address is:
https://username.github.io
GitHub’s current Pages limits include a 1 GB maximum published site, a recommended 1 GB source-repository limit, a soft bandwidth limit of 100 GB per month, a soft build limit of 10 builds per hour, and a 10-minute deployment timeout.
The important restriction for finance websites
GitHub says Pages is not intended or allowed for an online business, e-commerce site, or website primarily facilitating commercial transactions or commercial SaaS. It also should not handle sensitive transactions such as passwords or credit-card numbers.
That makes it a reasonable home for a free personal blog or open-source budgeting tool, but a questionable choice for a finance site funded by affiliate links, selling products, or processing customer applications. Read GitHub’s current terms before using it for a monetized project.
GitHub Pages supports custom subdomains such as www.example.com and apex domains such as example.com. You configure the domain in Pages settings and add the required DNS records with your domain provider. GitHub recommends verifying the domain to reduce domain-takeover risk.

3. InfinityFree: best for PHP, MySQL, and free WordPress
InfinityFree is the relevant choice when “web hosting” means a traditional hosting control panel rather than static deployment. Its advertised free plan includes PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 11.4, FTP, an online File Manager, .htaccess support, free SSL certificates, and WordPress installation through Softaculous.
The plan advertises 5 GB of disk space, no credit card, no expiration date, no advertisements placed on hosted sites, 400 MySQL databases, and “unlimited bandwidth.” Free subdomains include addresses such as:

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchyourname.great-site.net
yourname.rf.gd
You can also connect a domain registered elsewhere.
This is useful for learning PHP, testing WordPress, running a small personal site, or building a student project that needs a database. It is not the option I would choose for a high-traffic finance business. “Unlimited bandwidth” does not guarantee unlimited performance: shared hosting still means shared server capacity, and the advertised plan does not provide the same detailed capacity guarantees as a major edge-hosting platform.
4. Netlify Free: convenient, but watch the credits
Netlify’s $0 Free plan provides Git, API, or AI deployment, custom domains with SSL, deploy previews, functions, a global CDN, and one concurrent build.
For new accounts, the key limit is a 300-credit monthly allowance. Production deploys use 15 credits each, bandwidth uses 20 credits per GB, and web requests use 2 credits per 10,000 requests.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
New credit-based accounts also start projects private by default. You must choose to publish a project before it is publicly accessible.

- NEARLY 2X FASTER THAN OUR PREVIOUS GENERATION(8) – move 1,000 high-res photos in under 60 seconds(6) with up to 2000MB/s transfer speeds(2).
- IP65 RATING AND UP TO 3M DROP PROTECTION(3) – protects against spills and drops.
- POCKET-SIZED – fits easily in pockets and small bags.
- SPACE TO OWN YOUR AI CONTENT – speed and capacity to download your high-res clips and photo edits.
- 256-BIT AES ENCRYPTION(4) – helps keep private files secure with password protection.
The major failure mode is account-wide: when the monthly limit is reached, Netlify pauses all projects on the account, not only the site that used the quota. The Free plan has hard limits and cannot charge you while you remain on that plan. Accounts created before September 4, 2025 may still be on legacy plans, which explains why older Netlify tutorials describe different allowances.
5. Vercel Hobby: excellent for a personal Next.js project
Vercel Hobby is a strong technical fit for a personal Next.js site. It includes Git deployment, automatic CI/CD, a global CDN, HTTPS certificates, and DDoS mitigation. The listed allowances include 100 GB of Fast Data Transfer per month, 1 million Edge Requests, 1 million function invocations, four hours of function active CPU, unlimited deployments, and one developer seat.
The decisive limitation is not technical. Vercel states that Hobby is for personal, non-commercial use. Its Pro plan is positioned for professional developers, freelancers, and businesses.
Therefore, do not assume that a commercial finance blog is acceptable simply because it stays below the bandwidth and function quotas. A site earning affiliate income or selling a service should not rely on Hobby without confirming that its use complies with Vercel’s current terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Render: useful for testing a backend, not always-on production
Render provides free static sites and free web services. Static sites receive an onrender.com address, HTTPS, a global CDN, automatic Git deployments, and custom-domain support.
Free web services are different. They spin down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic and take about one minute to start after the next request. They use an ephemeral filesystem, so local-file changes disappear after redeploys, restarts, or spin-down. Free services share 750 instance hours per workspace per calendar month and cannot use persistent disks, SSH shell access, edge caching, or multiple instances.
Render explicitly says free instances should not be used for production applications. That makes them suitable for testing an API, demonstrating a prototype, or learning backend deployment—not for a calculator or account system that must respond immediately and retain local data.

There is also an important database trap: a free Render Postgres database is limited to 1 GB, expires after 30 days, and is deleted after a further 14-day grace period if it is not upgraded. It has no backups.
What older free-hosting lists get wrong
- “Unlimited” means unlimited everything. Quotas, file-size limits, build limits, usage credits, and terms still apply.
- GitHub Pages can host any website. It is static hosting and has explicit restrictions affecting commercial businesses, e-commerce, transactions, and commercial SaaS.
- Vercel Hobby is suitable for any small business. The current Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use.
- Netlify has an unlimited-feeling bandwidth allowance for new users. New accounts use the 300-credit system; older accounts may have legacy terms.
- Render’s free backend is always online. It sleeps after 15 minutes and can take about a minute to wake.
- A free host gives you a free custom domain. It normally gives you a provider subdomain. Your own
.comaddress is usually a separate purchase.
How to choose without creating an expensive migration problem
- Identify the site type. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Astro, Hugo, and similar output can use Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages. PHP, MySQL, or WordPress points toward InfinityFree.
- Check whether the site is commercial. Affiliate links, advertising, paid products, and client work can make GitHub Pages or Vercel Hobby unsuitable.
- Estimate the largest file. Cloudflare Pages’ Free plan caps individual files at 25 MiB. Large videos, archives, or high-resolution downloads may need object storage or a paid service.
- Decide whether sleeping is acceptable. A one-minute wake-up is tolerable for a test API but poor for a public application.
- Keep backups outside the host. Store the source repository and database backups separately. Free plans can change, and Render’s free database has a particularly short lifetime.
- Use your own domain when credibility matters. Hosting may cost nothing, but a registered domain and professional email are separate budget items.
FAQ
What is the best completely free web hosting?
For most static sites, Cloudflare Pages is the best overall option. It supports custom domains, HTTPS, Git deployment, manual uploads, 100 projects, 500 builds per month, 20,000 files per site, and 25 MiB per individual file on its Free plan.
Can I host a WordPress site for free?
InfinityFree is the most relevant option in this comparison because it advertises PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, FTP, SSL, and WordPress installation. It is shared hosting, so it is better suited to learning, experiments, and small sites than high-traffic production.
Is free hosting suitable for a monetized finance blog?
It depends on the provider’s terms. GitHub Pages restricts online businesses and sites primarily facilitating commercial transactions, while Vercel Hobby is for personal, non-commercial use. Check the current terms before adding advertising, affiliate links, or paid services.
Do free hosting plans include a free domain name?
Usually not. Free plans generally provide a provider subdomain such as project.pages.dev, username.github.io, or an InfinityFree subdomain. A custom address such as example.com normally requires a separate domain registration.
The Bottom Line
Choose Cloudflare Pages for a normal static personal-finance website, blog, documentation site, or frontend. Choose GitHub Pages when the project already belongs in a GitHub repository and is non-commercial. Choose InfinityFree only when you specifically need PHP, MySQL, FTP, .htaccess, or free WordPress hosting. Vercel is a strong personal Next.js platform, Netlify is convenient if you monitor its credit meter, and Render is for backend testing rather than an always-on production service.
