Diamond Comic Distributors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on January 14, 2025, but the case is no longer in Chapter 11: the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland says it converted to Chapter 7 effective at midnight on December 31, 2025. Morgan W. Fisher was appointed trustee. The change in chapter updates the case’s status; by itself, it does not establish what any creditor will recover.

What happened to Diamond Comic Distributors?

Diamond filed its Chapter 11 case in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division, on January 14, 2025. The case number is 25-10308. The court now lists the case as Chapter 7, effective at midnight on December 31, 2025, with Morgan W. Fisher appointed as Chapter 7 trustee. The court’s case page provides the current case information.

Chapter 11 was the chapter under which Diamond originally sought to restructure. The later conversion to Chapter 7 is a distinct procedural development. It does not, on its own, specify the outcome of an asset sale, resolve ownership disputes, or determine the amount a particular creditor may receive.

Which companies and business names are involved?

The court says four debtors’ cases are being jointly administered:

  • Comic Exporters, Inc.
  • Comic Holdings, Inc.
  • Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, LLC

Joint administration groups the cases for court administration; it does not make the companies a single corporation. The court also lists Alliance Games Distributors, Collectible Grading Authority, and Fandomworld as names under which Diamond does business. Those listed business names are not identified as additional debtor corporations in the court’s four-entity list. The court describes the businesses as involving comics, graphic novels, toys, games, and pop-culture merchandise.

What did Diamond announce when it filed?

In its January 14, 2025 announcement, Diamond described the Chapter 11 filing as an effort to restructure and reported filing-stage proposals and commitments. The figures below are what the company announced at that time, not confirmation of completed transactions or final recoveries. Diamond’s filing-day announcement is the source for these statements.

Filing-stage statement What Diamond said What it does not establish
Debtor-in-possession financing Diamond reported commitments for up to $41 million in financing. The announcement does not establish that the full amount was funded or the eventual terms or outcome.
Alliance Game Distributors Diamond reported a $39 million stalking-horse bid. A stalking-horse bid is a proposed starting bid, not proof of a completed sale or its final terms.
Diamond UK Diamond reported a non-binding letter of intent to buy Diamond UK. A non-binding letter of intent is not evidence that a purchase was completed.

The court’s case summary and FAQ do not establish final sale terms, the disposition of inventory, individual claims, or creditor recovery rates. Those questions require relevant later filings and court orders, not an inference from Diamond’s initial announcement or the conversion to Chapter 7.

What should a creditor or vendor do?

A supplier, publisher, customer, or other party cannot determine its rights or likely recovery from the general case status alone. The court’s FAQ says: “The Bankruptcy Clerk’s Office cannot provide legal advice.” It advises people with questions about how the case affects their legal rights to consult an attorney. The court’s case page and FAQ are the official starting points for case information; a person assessing a specific claim should review current docket filings and seek advice from qualified counsel.
