Circle Internet Group closed its first day of public trading at $83.23 on June 5, 2025—168% above its $31 IPO price. That was a striking debut for the stablecoin company and a hopeful signal for startups considering a public listing. It was not proof that the IPO market had broadly recovered, or that another company would receive the same reception.
What happened in Circle’s IPO?
On June 4, 2025, Circle announced an offering of 34 million Class A shares at $31 apiece. The company expected the shares to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker CRCL the following day. Circle’s announced offer terms are in its pricing release.
The $31 offer price was the price set for the IPO. Once public trading began, buyers and sellers set the market price. Circle’s shares closed their first trading day at $83.23, a 168% gain from the offer price, according to TechCrunch’s June 5, 2025 report. The Associated Press also reported the first-day close. This figure describes the June 5 close, not Circle’s current share price or its performance since then.
How much of the offering went to Circle?
The 34 million shares in the announced offering were not all newly issued by Circle. The company issued 19.9 million primary shares; existing shareholders sold other shares in the offering. Money from those secondary shares went to the selling shareholders, not to Circle.
#1 Best Overall
Circle reported $583 million in proceeds from its primary issuance after underwriting discounts and commissions, but before $12.8 million in offering costs. Those figures, reported in the company’s SEC-filed quarterly report, are distinct from the total number of shares offered and the value of all shares sold.
Why did the debut matter to other startups?
A strong first-day close can show that investors were willing to buy a particular company’s shares at prices well above its IPO price. For founders and investors weighing a public listing, Circle’s debut was an encouraging example that a high-profile offering could attract substantial demand in June 2025.

Contemporaneous coverage also pointed to Omada Health and Chime as companies approaching the public markets. Those names offered a glimpse of the IPO pipeline at the time, not a promise that other offerings would follow Circle’s trajectory. Omada’s SEC filing records a materially different offering: the company completed an IPO of 9,085,000 shares at $19 per share on June 9, 2025.
| Company | Offer terms | What the figures show |
|---|---|---|
| Circle Internet Group | 34 million shares at $31; announced June 4, 2025. The total included primary shares issued by Circle and secondary shares sold by existing shareholders. | Circle’s first-day close was $83.23 on June 5, 2025, 168% above the IPO price. Circle’s 19.9 million primary shares generated $583 million after underwriting discounts and commissions, before $12.8 million in offering costs. |
| Omada Health | 9,085,000 shares at $19; IPO completed June 9, 2025. | These are the offering terms recorded in Omada’s SEC filing. No comparable first-day opening or closing price is established here. |
The offerings should not be judged by comparing their per-share prices: a share’s dollar price alone does not tell you the value of a company. Their offer sizes, share structures, dates and trading outcomes also differ. The Omada terms are documented in the company’s SEC filing.

Does Circle’s IPO show that the IPO market had reopened?
No. One unusually strong debut establishes that demand was strong for Circle’s offering at that moment. On its own, it cannot show that IPO conditions improved across the market, predict how investors would receive another issuer, or establish Circle’s long-term value. A market-wide conclusion would require broader evidence than one company’s first-day return.
Circle’s later 2025 annual report records the completed IPO and an August 2025 follow-on offering. That historical filing does not establish CRCL’s share price on October 8, 2026. The first-day result is therefore best understood as a dated milestone, not a current-performance claim.
