A Microsoft Office license advertised at $25 is not the current Microsoft 365 subscription and is not Microsoft’s newest perpetual Office release. It refers to a discounted, one-time license for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019 for Windows, sold through a third-party StackCommerce/StackSocial promotion.
Recent documented promotions put the Office-only offer closer to $30, while an Office-and-Windows 11 Pro bundle has appeared at about $26. Prices can change at checkout, and the deal is not the same as buying Office directly from Microsoft.
What the $25 Office deal actually buys
The offer is for one Windows PC and includes the Professional Plus 2019 desktop applications:

The product is described as a one-time purchase, sometimes marketed as a “lifetime” license. In this context, “lifetime” means continued use of the purchased Office 2019 version under the applicable license terms. It does not mean lifetime upgrades, lifetime security fixes, or lifetime access to Microsoft support.

The price claim needs an update
The “only $25” headline is too precise to rely on. A PCWorld sponsored listing documented an Office Professional Plus 2019 and Windows 11 Pro bundle at $25.99 on July 17, 2026. A separate Office-only listing showed $29.97 on August 4, 2026. Those are promotional prices, not fixed retail prices.
The practical description is: a third-party seller may offer Office Professional Plus 2019 for about $30, with some promotions reducing an Office-and-Windows bundle to about $26. Check the final checkout total, refund terms, edition, and region before paying.
PCWorld labels the promotion a Sponsored DealPost and discloses that it may earn a commission. The transaction is distributed through StackCommerce/StackSocial rather than the Microsoft Store. That does not automatically make the deal illegitimate, but it does mean the purchase should not be treated as equivalent to buying directly from Microsoft.
Office 2019 is already out of support
This is the most important cost consideration. Microsoft ended support for Office 2019 on October 14, 2025. The applications may continue to open and work, but Microsoft no longer promises security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for that release.

That may still be reasonable for a low-risk, offline home computer used for basic documents. It is a weaker choice for a work computer, a device containing sensitive financial records, or anyone who expects current features and security maintenance.
Compatibility: check these details first
- Operating system: The listing specifies Windows 10 or Windows 11. It does not support Windows 7 or Windows 8.
- Computer count: The license is for one Windows PC, not the multiple-device access provided by Microsoft 365.
- Mac users: This Professional Plus edition is for Windows. The seller lists a separate Mac product, generally Office Home & Business 2019.
- Windows bundle: Windows 11 Pro is included only in the separate bundle. It is not part of the Office-only license.
- Account: The key becomes associated with the Microsoft account used during redemption.
How to redeem and install the key
- Use a Windows computer and open microsoft365.com/setup or office.com/setup.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you want to keep using for this license, or create one.
- Enter the product key supplied by the seller.
- Complete the redemption process. Microsoft links the license to that account.
- Open the account’s Services & subscriptions page and download Office.
- After installation, open Word or another Office program and go to File > Account. Under Product Information, confirm that the displayed edition is the product you bought.
Do not plan to reinstall later by entering the same key again. Microsoft keys can normally be redeemed only once. Future installations should be started from the Microsoft account linked during the original redemption.
Common problems with discounted product keys

Microsoft also says an account can have up to 25 one-time purchases of Office 2019, Office 2016, or Office 2013 associated with it. That limit is unlikely to matter to an ordinary household buyer, but it can affect bulk purchases.

Can a cheap Office key stop working?
Yes. Microsoft warns that separately sold product keys can be stolen, counterfeit, abused, or unauthorized for resale. A key can activate initially and later stop working if Microsoft blocks it.
Keep the seller’s invoice, order number, product description, and any activation emails. If the key is invalid or later becomes unusable, Microsoft’s guidance is to seek a refund from the seller. A low price is not protection against that risk, and Microsoft generally will not turn a questionable third-party purchase into a supported retail license.
Is the deal worth it?
The answer depends on what you are buying it for:
- Potentially worthwhile: You need familiar desktop Word or Excel applications on one Windows 10 or 11 PC, you accept that Office 2019 is unsupported, and the seller offers a credible refund path.
- Probably not worthwhile: You use a Mac, need several devices, require current security updates, want OneDrive and other Microsoft 365 services, or expect to upgrade to newer Office versions.
- Consider instead: Compare the price of supported Office 2024 or a Microsoft 365 plan. The upfront price will be higher, but the comparison should include support, compatibility, updates, and the number of devices covered.
Before checkout, verify four things: the final price, the exact edition, the Windows-only limitation, and the seller’s refund policy. Also confirm whether you are looking at the Office-only listing or the separate Windows 11 Pro bundle.
