The best cheap Samsung phones: 10+ budget Galaxy phones compared!

The Galaxy A17 5G is the best Samsung phone under $200, while the A37 5G is the strongest overall value. Here is how every budget Galaxy compares on price, support, cameras and total cost.

Samsung’s cheapest phone is not automatically its best deal. A $169.99 Galaxy A16 5G can be sensible for basic use, while spending about $450 on a Galaxy A37 5G may be cheaper over several years if you need better cameras, water resistance and faster charging. Older A36 and A56 models can also look attractive until you discover that Samsung marks them end-of-life (EOL) and some direct listings are out of stock.

This comparison uses U.S. unlocked list prices and availability checked August 8, 2026. Prices can move, and carrier promotions or trade-in credits may change the effective cost. The figures below are therefore a starting point for a purchase—not a promise that every retailer will charge the same amount.

Quick picks: the best cheap Samsung phones

Best for Phone Unlocked price Why it stands out
Lowest current price Galaxy A16 5G $169.99 Six Android/One UI upgrades and six years of security updates
Best under $200 Galaxy A17 5G $199.99 Faster chip and 50MP camera with OIS
Best around $300 Galaxy A26 5G $299.99 AMOLED screen, IP67 and OIS—but currently out of stock direct from Samsung
Best overall value Galaxy A37 5G $449.99 IP68, 45W charging, AMOLED display and long support
Best performance for the money Galaxy S25 FE $649.99 Exynos 2400, Galaxy AI and seven years of support
Cheapest route to a former flagship Galaxy S24 Certified Re-Newed $619.99 Flagship cameras, wireless charging and a one-year limited warranty

My default recommendation: buy the Galaxy A17 5G if your budget is firmly below $250. If you can spend about $450 and expect to keep the phone for several years, the Galaxy A37 5G is the stronger long-term value. Move up to the S25 FE when performance, camera quality and wireless charging matter more than the lowest purchase price.

1. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G — cheapest sensible option

Price: $169.99 unlocked.

The Galaxy A16 5G is the entry point for a current mainstream Samsung phone in the U.S. It has the key financial advantage of unusually long software support for this price: Samsung promises six generations of One UI and Android upgrades plus six years of security updates.

#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy A06 4G LTE (64GB + 4GB) Latin Version SM-A065M/DS Factory Unlocked 6.7" Dual Sim 50MP Dual Cam (Case Bundle) - (Black)
  • 4G LTE Bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41 (This model does not support 5G)
  • Display: PLS LCD | 6.7 inches, 108.4 cm2 (~83.8% screen-to-body ratio) | 720 x 1600 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~262 ppi density)
  • Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth)
  • Battery: Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable | 25W wired
  • Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, Total Wireless, other CDMA carriers, it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc). Please contact the seller for more information about carrier compatibility. A power adapter is NOT included.

That support reduces the risk of needing to replace the phone simply because it becomes obsolete. It is a practical choice for calls, messaging, banking apps, streaming and light web use. Its weakness is value at the margin: for $30 more, the A17 brings a faster processor and a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

Buy it if: $170 is your hard ceiling or the A17 is not available at a reasonable price. Skip it if: you regularly take photos, multitask or plan to keep the phone for four or more years and can afford the A17.

2. Samsung Galaxy A17 5G — best budget Galaxy under $200

Price: $199.99 for the unlocked 128GB version.

The A17 is the budget model I would choose for most shoppers who want to stay below $200. It launched with Android 15 and One UI 7, uses Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor and adds a 50MP camera with OIS. OIS will not turn an inexpensive camera into a flagship camera, but it can help reduce blur from hand movement and improve low-light shots.

It also retains the A16’s six generations of operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates. That is important for a personal-finance phone: secure software matters when you use banking, payment and investment apps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Budget one additional cost into the purchase. Samsung’s U.S. box contents include a data cable but no wall charger. If you do not already own a compatible USB-C charger, the real cost is higher than the advertised phone price.

Buy it if: you want the best current Samsung value below $200. Skip it if: you need better gaming performance, a more capable ultrawide camera or wireless charging.

3. Samsung Galaxy A26 5G — attractive specifications, uncertain availability

Price: $299.99 list price; Samsung’s unlocked listing was out of stock when checked.

The A26 has a compelling specification mix for roughly $300: a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, IP67 water and dust resistance, a 50MP main camera with OIS and six generations of Android/One UI updates with six years of security support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The problem is not the hardware; it is whether you can buy one from a reputable seller at a sensible price. Samsung’s direct U.S. page currently says “Out of Stock,” so a retailer listing should be checked for the exact U.S. model, warranty, return period and carrier compatibility. Do not pay more than a newer phone merely because an A26 listing claims it is “in stock.”

Buy it if: you find a new U.S. model near $300 with a proper warranty. Skip it if: the price approaches the A37 or the seller is offering an imported model with unclear support.

Samsung Galaxy A16 4G LTE (128GB + 4GB) International Model SM-A165F/DS Factory Unlocked, 6.7", Dual SIM, 50MP Triple Camera (Case Bundle), Black
  • Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
  • Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
  • Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.

4. Samsung Galaxy A37 5G — best overall cheap Samsung phone

Price: $449.99 for 128GB or $539.99 for 256GB unlocked.

The A37 is the practical sweet spot in Samsung’s current A-series lineup. It combines a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, Exynos 1480 processor, 5,000mAh battery, IP68 protection, a 50MP OIS main camera and 45W charging. Samsung promises six generations of operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That combination makes the A37 easier to justify as a long-term purchase than a very cheap phone. IP68 offers more protection against accidental water exposure than phones without an ingress rating, while OIS and the larger display improve everyday use. The 45W charging support can also reduce the time spent tethered to a charger, although the charger is not included in the box.

At $450, it is no longer an impulse budget purchase. But if you would otherwise replace a $200 phone after two years, a phone kept for four or five years can have a lower annual cost. For example, $449.99 spread over four years is about $112.50 per year before accessories, tax and repairs.

Buy it if: you want one Samsung phone to keep for several years and value durability. Skip it if: you only need a temporary phone or can get a discounted former flagship at the same price.

5. Samsung Galaxy A57 5G — premium A-series option

Price: Samsung U.S. lists 128GB and 256GB versions as online-exclusive models, but the indexed buy page did not expose a price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The A57 is a current upper-A-series model, not an unofficial or overseas-only phone. Its specifications include a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Exynos 1680 processor, 5,000mAh battery, IP68 rating, 50MP OIS main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, Wi-Fi 6E and 45W charging. It also receives six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates.

Because Samsung’s U.S. listing did not provide a verified price in the available buying data, it is difficult to call the A57 a bargain. Compare its checkout price with the A37 and S25 FE rather than assuming that a higher A-series number means better value. A small price gap to the S25 FE may make the FE the more sensible purchase.

Buy it if: its actual price is meaningfully below the S25 FE and you prefer the A-series design. Skip it if: it costs close to the S25 FE, which offers a higher-end processor and seven-year support.

6. Samsung Galaxy A36 5G — only as clearance stock

Price: $399.99 for 128GB or $474.99 for 256GB list price; Samsung’s unlocked listings were out of stock and the model is marked EOL in Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet.

  • 2G: 850/900/1800/1900, 3G: 850/900/1700/2100/1900/2100, 4G: LTE 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/14/20/20/25/26/28/29/30/38/39/40/41/48/66/71, 5G: 2/5/41/66/77/78 - Single SIM - Single SIM
  • No Warranty. Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.

The A36 remains a capable phone on paper. It uses a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, has a 6.7-inch display, supports Circle to Search and receives six years of operating-system and security support.

However, it is an older generation. Treat it as clearance inventory, not as a current default recommendation. A discounted A36 could be worthwhile if it is substantially cheaper than the A37 and comes from a seller with a clear warranty. At anything near $450, the newer A37 is easier to recommend.

7. Samsung Galaxy A56 5G — previous-generation alternative

Price: $499.99 for 128GB or $549.99 for 256GB; both configurations are marked EOL in Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet.

The A56 has an Exynos 1580 chip, a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, IP67 protection, Gorilla Glass Victus+ and six years of OS and security support. Those are respectable features, but its list price is difficult to defend when it is a previous-generation model and the A37 is current.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider it only when a retailer offers a meaningful clearance discount, includes a dependable warranty and has a return policy. Check the exact remaining support period as well as the price: six years of support is measured from Samsung’s support commitment for the model, not from the day you happen to buy old stock.

8. Samsung Galaxy S24 Certified Re-Newed — former flagship for less

Price: $619.99 for 128GB or $669.99 for 256GB.

A Certified Re-Newed Galaxy S24 changes the budget-phone calculation. It costs more than an A-series model but gives you a former flagship experience, including stronger cameras, wireless charging and a higher-end processor. Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program includes a one-year limited warranty.

This can be better value than a new midrange phone for buyers who care about camera quality, compact flagship handling or wireless charging. It is not the cheapest option, and refurbished condition means you should compare the warranty and return terms before buying from another seller. Direct Samsung Certified Re-Newed stock is generally easier to evaluate because the program defines the condition and warranty.

Buy it if: you want flagship features and are comfortable with certified refurbished hardware. Skip it if: your priority is maximum battery life per dollar or a brand-new device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Samsung Galaxy S25 FE — best value when performance matters

Price: $649.99 for 128GB or $749.99 for 256GB unlocked.

The S25 FE is the most convincing Samsung choice for buyers using “cheap” to mean good value rather than the lowest possible price. It has an Exynos 2400 processor, a 6.7-inch display, a 4,900mAh battery, 45W charging and Galaxy AI features. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates—one year longer than the current A-series models.

Samsung does not include a charger. At $650, the cost of a charger is less important as a percentage of the purchase, but it is still worth adding to the budget if needed. The S25 FE is a particularly strong choice when a Samsung trade-in promotion reduces the price, provided you qualify and meet the trade-in conditions.

10. Samsung Galaxy S24 FE — buy only when discounted

Price: $649.99 for 128GB or $709.99 for 256GB in Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP list.

The S24 FE is an older FE alternative, but its list prices overlap the S25 FE. That makes the newer model the natural starting point. The S24 FE could still make sense through a retailer clearance sale, an unusually strong trade-in promotion or a lower price that reflects its age.

Compare the actual checkout price, warranty and remaining update life. Do not assume that an older FE is a bargain simply because it has “FE” in the name.

11. Samsung Galaxy A15 5G — older budget phone to avoid unless heavily discounted

Price: $169.99 for 64GB; marked EOL. A 128GB healthcare edition remains listed at $199.99.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The A15 5G may appear in older buying guides because it was once a common low-cost recommendation. It is no longer a first-choice purchase at its listed price. The A16 is the current low-cost option, while the A17 costs only $30 more than the A15’s 64GB version and offers a better overall package.

Buy an A15 only if a trusted retailer discounts it substantially and the warranty makes it a better deal than the A16 or A17. Confirm storage carefully: 64GB fills quickly once photos, apps and offline media accumulate.

12. Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro — for rugged work, not ordinary savings

Price: $399.99 unlocked.

The XCover6 Pro is a niche work phone rather than a normal cheap Galaxy. Its justification is rugged construction, enterprise support and work-oriented features—not the best screen, camera or everyday value at $400.

Choose it when a job site, field-work requirement or business deployment makes rugged hardware worth paying for. For ordinary personal use, the A37 offers a better feature mix at a similar starting price.

How to choose the cheapest phone that is actually a good deal

1. Set a total budget, not just a phone budget

Add sales tax, a case, screen protection and a wall charger if necessary. The A17, A37 and S25 FE listings specifically indicate that a charger is not included. A $200 phone that needs $35 of accessories should be compared with the complete cost of alternatives, not just the headline price.

2. Price the phone over the time you expect to use it

Phone Example purchase price Cost per year over 4 years Best interpretation
Galaxy A17 5G $199.99 About $50 Excellent low upfront cost
Galaxy A37 5G $449.99 About $112.50 Potentially better if it avoids an early replacement
Galaxy S25 FE $649.99 About $162.50 Higher cost justified by performance and seven-year support

This is not a guarantee that any phone will last four years. Battery health, accidental damage and repair prices can change the calculation. It is simply a useful way to avoid comparing a phone designed for light use with a more capable model solely by purchase price.

3. Do not confuse IP ratings with waterproofing

IP67 and IP68 are water-resistance ratings tested under laboratory conditions. They do not make a phone suitable for swimming, saltwater, beaches or repeated liquid exposure. Samsung describes the A37’s IP68 rating around up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Liquid damage may not be covered by a warranty.

4. Check the exact U.S. model

Storage, colors, carrier compatibility and features can vary by country and carrier. An imported Galaxy may lack the bands, warranty or software configuration you expect. For an unlocked U.S. purchase, verify the model number, seller, return window and compatibility with your carrier before paying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Treat trade-in credits as conditional discounts

A carrier or Samsung trade-in promotion can make a more expensive Galaxy look cheaper, but the credit is conditional. The traded phone may need to arrive by a deadline, be unlocked, power on and meet damage requirements. If it fails inspection, the promised credit can be reduced or charged back. Compare the guaranteed upfront cost with the promotional effective cost, and do not buy a phone you cannot afford merely because the monthly installment looks small.

Which cheap Samsung phone should you buy?

  • Choose the A16 5G when you need the lowest current mainstream price.
  • Choose the A17 5G for the strongest sub-$200 balance of price, camera and support.
  • Choose the A26 5G only if you find reliable, in-stock U.S. inventory near $300.
  • Choose the A37 5G for the best current A-series value and a phone you expect to keep.
  • Choose the A57 5G only after comparing its actual online-exclusive price with the S25 FE.
  • Choose the S24 Certified Re-Newed for flagship features at a lower price, with the program’s warranty.
  • Choose the S25 FE when long-term performance, cameras and seven-year support justify spending about $650.
  • Choose the XCover6 Pro only for a genuine rugged-work requirement.

FAQ

What is the cheapest current Samsung 5G phone in the U.S.?

The Galaxy A16 5G is listed at $169.99 unlocked in Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP data. The Galaxy A17 5G costs $199.99 and is usually the better value when the extra $30 fits your budget.

Is the Galaxy A17 5G worth buying over the A16?

Usually, yes. The A17 adds a faster Exynos 1330 processor and a 50MP main camera with OIS while retaining six generations of Android/One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. The A16 makes more sense when keeping the upfront price as low as possible is the priority.

Does Samsung include a charger with its cheap phones?

Not always. Samsung’s U.S. A17 and A37 buy pages list a data cable but no wall charger, and the S25 FE also does not include one. Check the box contents before calculating your total purchase cost.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are older Galaxy A36 and A56 phones still good deals?

Only at a substantial clearance discount. Samsung marks both models EOL in its March 2026 MSRP sheet, and A36 unlocked listings were out of stock directly from Samsung when checked. Compare the actual price, warranty and remaining support with the current A37.

The Bottom Line

The Galaxy A17 5G is the safest cheap recommendation under $200, while the Galaxy A16 5G is the lowest-cost current Samsung option. For buyers who can spend more, the Galaxy A37 5G offers the strongest balance of durability, display quality, camera stabilization, charging and long software support. The S25 FE is worth the jump to roughly $650 when performance, cameras and seven-year support matter more than minimizing the initial bill.

Before buying, calculate the complete cost, verify U.S. model compatibility and treat trade-in credits as conditional. Avoid paying current-model prices for EOL A36, A56 or A15 stock, and do not mistake a carrier’s promotional monthly payment for the phone’s true price.
