WeRide postponed its planned U.S. IPO in August 2024 because it needed more time to complete the required offering documents, according to a contemporaneous TechCrunch report. Chinese approval for the overseas offering was also reported to be nearing expiration that week, but the available reporting does not establish that deadline as the company’s stated reason for delaying. WeRide’s ADSs began trading on Nasdaq as WRD on October 25, 2024.
Why did WeRide delay its IPO?
WeRide had aimed to list on Nasdaq during the week of its August 2024 postponement. TechCrunch reported that the company said it needed additional time to complete the necessary IPO documents. That is the stated immediate explanation reported at the time; the available evidence does not establish other factors as causes.
What role did Chinese regulatory approval play?
The South China Morning Post reported that Chinese approval for WeRide’s overseas offering was due to expire at the end of that same week. It said missing the deadline could mean submitting another filing to regulators. This made the timing a potential regulatory complication, but it does not show that WeRide cited approval expiry as its reason for postponing the IPO.
WeRide’s 2026 annual report says the China Securities Regulatory Commission published the Nasdaq IPO filing results on October 17, 2024. That later milestone falls between the postponement and the start of trading.

When did WeRide go public?
WeRide’s ADSs began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker WRD on October 25, 2024, according to the company’s annual report. The company announced the listing on October 28. These are distinct dates: October 25 was the first trading day; October 28 was the announcement date.
What was the IPO price and how much did WeRide raise?

What the IPO delay does—and does not—show
The postponement was temporary: WeRide completed its Nasdaq listing in October 2024. The contemporary explanation points to more time for document preparation, while news coverage identified a looming Chinese approval deadline as relevant context. The available evidence does not establish geopolitics, valuation, market conditions, or any single factor beyond document preparation as the cause.
In its 2026 annual report, WeRide also disclosed risks that U.S. policy deliberations concerning China-based issuers could affect its stock or listing, and that Chinese restrictions on offshore proceeds could delay or prevent transfers to mainland subsidiaries. Those are later-disclosed risks, not evidence explaining the 2024 postponement.
