When and where the Perth CEO CookOff took place
OzHarvest hosted the inaugural Western Australian CEO CookOff on Thursday night, 16 October 2025, at Perth City Farm in East Perth. PerthNow reported on the event that day in its event report.
Which chefs and business leaders took part
Miguel Maestre, Colin Fassnidge and local chef Blaze Young led 20 business leaders, who worked in three groups to prepare the meal. Fassnidge joked that his CEO apprentices would need to work quickly and stay focused: “For my CEOs, they’re gonna to have to work very fast and not talk too much. It’s gonna be hot in there,” he told PerthNow.
What was served
The groups prepared canapés, shared sides, mains and desserts. Fassnidge made his chicken bread, which the report describes as an Irish-style pizza using roast chicken on garlic bread with herbs and potatoes. Maestre cooked several paella variations with seasonal ingredients.

Why OzHarvest put recipients at the centre
The guests were people connected with the charities OzHarvest serves. Founder Ronni Kahn described the event as a chance to turn the usual arrangement around: “The difference between this event and any other is the tables are turned, because our guests — the VIPs tonight — are our recipients, the people who come from the charities we serve,” she told The West Australian. “So our leaders and these beautiful chefs will be serving our guests and making them feel dignity, respect in action.”
Fassnidge said he hoped the experience would help participants understand both the work involved and the people being served. Maestre described taking part as a way to support what he called “such a noble final destination.” Young said homelessness remained a major issue in WA.

What the meal target does—and does not—tell us
Before the event began, Kahn said OzHarvest was 16,000 meals short of its local target of donating 200,000 meals. That was a pre-event status, not a result of the CookOff. PerthNow’s report does not give a final fundraising total or a final number of meals served, so it does not establish whether the event helped close that gap or whether the target was ultimately met.
