The 2025 Nissan ARIYA starts at $39,770 and is advertised at as little as 4.8 seconds, but Nissan limits that acceleration claim to select trims. These are advertised U.S. starting prices, not proof of the cheapest option in every market or a buyer’s final cost.
Current new-car examples under $40,000
The comparison below is limited to currently advertised U.S. new-car examples with a published 0–60 mph claim below five seconds. Toyota’s and Nissan’s figures are manufacturer claims, not results from a common independent test. Starting prices exclude the variables that determine a buyer’s actual out-the-door amount.
| Vehicle | Advertised starting price | Published 0–60 mph claim | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Toyota C-HR | $37,000 MSRP, excluding dealer processing and handling charges | 4.9 seconds, manufacturer-estimated | Toyota lists standard AWD and 338 combined system hp. The listed starting price and acceleration claim make this the lowest-priced qualifying example in this comparison, not a verified market-wide winner. Toyota 2026 C-HR trims |
| 2025 Nissan ARIYA | $39,770 starting price | As little as 4.8 seconds, manufacturer claim | Nissan says the time applies to select trims; confirm that the specific configuration you can buy qualifies. Range and performance vary by trim. Nissan 2025 ARIYA |
How to read the acceleration claims
A manufacturer estimate is not a like-for-like test
Toyota describes the C-HR’s 4.9-second time as manufacturer-estimated. Nissan advertises an ARIYA time of as little as 4.8 seconds for select trims. Neither number establishes that every trim reaches the stated time, and the figures should not be treated as directly comparable test results: the manufacturers may use different conditions and methods.
One independent C-HR review gives configuration context
Tom’s Guide reported a 4.9-second 0–60 mph result for its 2026 C-HR XSE test vehicle. That vehicle had a $39,000 MSRP and cost $43,429 as tested. The reviewer said they drove it for a week and recorded 172 miles. These are details of that reviewed XSE, not the $37,000 starting price of the C-HR lineup. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 C-HR review

What the advertised price means for your budget
A starting MSRP is a useful comparison point, but it is not a purchase quote. Taxes, dealer charges, optional equipment, regional incentives, and local inventory can change what you pay. For the ARIYA, the qualifying acceleration claim is trim-specific, so check both the exact trim and its current price rather than assuming the entry model matches the performance figure.
- Ask the dealer for an itemized out-the-door quote for the exact qualifying configuration.
- Compare the same pricing basis across vehicles; do not compare a base MSRP with another car’s as-tested or dealer-listed price.
- Check whether incentives apply to your location and circumstances, and whether they are reflected in the quoted price.
How quick is under five seconds?
For context, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2026 Automotive Trends Report gives an average 0-to-60 time of 7.5 seconds for new vehicles in model year 2024. That is a broad benchmark from an earlier model year, not a direct comparison test of these two vehicles. U.S. EPA Automotive Trends Report

What this shortlist can—and cannot—tell you
The C-HR is the lowest-priced qualifying example among the two current U.S. new-car examples listed here. The available figures do not establish an exhaustive ranking across every make, trim, used vehicle, dealer, or local market. Prices and inventory change, and a broader search—including used cars or local incentives—could produce a different answer. The cited material also does not provide consistent range, charging, or ownership-cost figures for a fair total-cost comparison.
