The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) lists a $20,000 award for each eligible Olympic gold medalist through its Athlete Excellence Fund. That is a COC program award—not a documented federal government payment—and the available sources do not establish that the controversy prompted a payment or confirm individual transfers to Team Jacobs’ members.
Who pays the award, and how much is it?
The COC’s Athlete Excellence Fund states that eligible athletes receive an award for each Olympic medal won in Olympic years. Its listed amounts are:
| Medal | COC program award for an eligible athlete |
|---|---|
| Gold | $20,000 |
| Silver | $15,000 |
| Bronze | $10,000 |
These are the award amounts stated on the COC’s Athlete Excellence Fund page, accessed in 2026. The page describes the program and its eligibility; it does not establish that the federal government paid the athletes. Nor do the available sources document individual transfers to the named curlers, so the published award should not be treated as proof of a completed payment to each team member.
What happened in the curling controversy?
The dispute arose during Canada’s earlier match against Sweden, not the gold-medal final. The Associated Press reported an allegation that Canadian third Marc Kennedy touched the granite of a stone after releasing it, followed by an angry exchange with Swedish opponent Oskar Eriksson and increased attention to rules and officiating. AP reported that tensions had eased as the medal games approached. The report describes an allegation and the ensuing dispute; it does not establish that the controversy decided the later final.

How did Canada win gold?
On February 21, 2026, the men’s team led by Brad Jacobs beat Great Britain 9–6 in the gold-medal final, according to Curling Canada’s event report. That report identifies the team and staff. The reported final result is distinct from the earlier Canada–Sweden dispute.
Was the award caused by the controversy?
No such connection is established by the available sources. The COC describes a medal-based award program, while the controversy was an earlier match dispute. No official source cited here says that the Canadian government paid a bonus because of the incident, and no source says the dispute triggered the COC award.

- TURN ANY MAGNETIC SURFACE INTO A MINI CURLING SHEET: These six miniature curling stones — in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and White — look exactly like the real thing scaled down. The speckled granite-look base and color-matched top handle are printed separately for clean, authentic detail. Stick them on your fridge in the house position and let the debate begin.
- MAGNETS THAT ACTUALLY HOLD THINGS: Each stone has a strong neodymium magnet embedded in the base that grips to fridges, lockers, whiteboards, and metal boards. These hold photos, notes, and a few layers of paper without sliding — no decorative-only hardware here. Approximately 1.5" wide × 1.18" tall per stone, making them substantial without being bulky.
- THE CURLING FAN GIFT NOBODY ELSE THOUGHT OF: Whether it's an end-of-season league gift, a coach thank-you, a birthday for the curler who has everything, or a stocking stuffer for a winter sports fan, this 6-pack delivers. It's the kind of gift that earns a genuine reaction — not a polite one.
- SIX COLORS, ONE COMPLETE SET: The set includes one stone in each of the six classic curling handle colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and White. Each stone measures approximately 1.5" (38mm) in diameter and 1.18" (30mm) in height. The speckled gray stone body is consistent across all pieces; only the top disc and handle change color.
- HANDCRAFTED IN THE USA BY THINGSFORGE: Every set is printed in Kansas City, Missouri on professional-grade 3D printers. We're a small family shop — not a warehouse operation — and we print these one set at a time. Slight natural variation in print texture and color tone is part of what makes each set genuinely handmade.
