The Canada Post strike that stopped deliveries began on September 25, 2025. It is a historical event, not proof that workers are on strike now: CUPW members ratified new agreements on June 1, 2026. For a current delivery issue, check Canada Post’s service alerts for your location.
Is Canada Post on strike right now?
The announcements cited here do not establish a current national strike or whether a particular community has a service interruption in October 2026. Check Canada Post’s service alerts for the latest location-specific information before assuming a delay is strike-related.
What happened during the 2025 strike?
National strike began September 25
Canada Post reported that CUPW launched a national strike on September 25, 2025. The company said it would not process or deliver mail and parcels while the national action continued, some post offices would close, and service guarantees for items already in its network were suspended. It also warned that delivery could take time to return to normal after strike activity ended. Canada Post’s September 25 operational update describes the effects.
Rotating strikes began October 11
On October 10, 2025, Canada Post said employees would return the next day as CUPW moved from a full national strike to rotating strikes. The company anticipated delays as it restarted operations and processed items held in its network. A shift to rotating action was different from the earlier national shutdown; the cited update does not establish which locations or services may have been affected at any later date. Canada Post’s October 10 update gives the changeover details.

What happened to mail, parcels and payments?
During the national strike, Canada Post said mail and parcels would not be processed or delivered. Items already in the network could therefore be delayed, and the company said service guarantees were suspended. Even after employees returned and operations restarted, backlogs could take time to clear.
There was a limited exception for socio-economic cheques: Canada Post said the parties had agreed to continue delivery for eligible, participating government organizations. That announcement does not establish that every government payment, cheque or essential item was exempt. The September 25 update sets out the stated exception.

- Open Canada Post’s service alerts and look for an alert covering your province, community or delivery route.
- If the alert does not explain your item’s status, use Canada Post’s tracking information or contact the sender or Canada Post for item-specific details. A general historical strike announcement cannot confirm where a particular item is now.
